Oster 5-Spped Hand Mixer with HEATSOFT Technology The Oster is a very classy looking hand mixer with its copper clad nose piece and overall design. Its list of features includes 5 mixing speeds, controls that are all within easy reach and a unique butter softening heater hidden in the beater nozzle. PERFORMANCE: Every thing works as described, and the instructions are hardly necessary (but they are well done). This is a very powerful mixer that won’t struggle with any mixing chore. The 5 speeds cover a broad range. It’s here, however, where my wife and I would offer two different reviews. OVER - ALL - DESIGN: Inserting and removing beaters is easy and the compact unit sits upright while you’re adding ingredients. (me) Those beaters look too short. (wife) They may look shorter, but it doesn’t have any negative impact on my mixing. I’m mixing dry ingredients with no trouble. If you’re worried about blowing ingredients up and onto the mixer, your speed is too high. My entire mix isn’t too deep for the beater length. BUTTER SOFTENING: The butter heating element switch is easy to locate and falls under your finger readily. It can be employed at any time. We made German Chocolate cookies that required 2 sticks of butter! We got a good test of this feature. (me) But, isn’t pre-softening the butter ahead of time just as easy? (wife) Yeah, you do it if it’s so easy and you have extra time. I’m perfectly happy getting right to work, and the results seem better than usual. We ended up with a nice looking mix that had the desired stiff batter to plop onto the baking sheet. COMFORT: (me) The mixers weight is focused in body and seems pretty manageable. (wife) This is my one complaint. This nicely, powerful mixer is not light. My arm is getting tired, although I could look at it as exercise. Nope. It’s tiring. That said, it’s a worthwhile trade-off for all that power. LOUDNESS: (me) Wow. That seems loud. I’m getting 80 db volume on my (uncalibrated) sound meter with the meter getting in the high 80s as the speed increase or when the heater is on. (wife) Well, it isn’t as quiet as my stand mixer, but it’s no louder than other mixers I’ve owned. I just wouldn’t use it if people were still sleeping. SUMMARY: The OSTER 5 Speed mixer has a great combination of features and performs perfectly. It’s very powerful. It is very easy to use. There are some ergonomic issues for me and probably some users, but my wife didn’t share my opinion on a few of them. We can both recommend this mixer, with the noted caveats.

My grandmother loves to bake. She makes cake a couple of times a week and even though she uses box mixes, she uses a hand mixer every single time. We’ve had the same hand mixer for years and I thought it was time to upgrade to something that might make her baking adventures a little bit easier. What makes this mixer stand out to me is the butter-softening feature. Grandma has used it once since we got this mixer and loves it. Yes, you can pre-soften the butter, but for someone who gets around a little slower and it’s an effort for her to move from one side of the kitchen to the other, being able to soften and mix in one swoop is much preferred. She loves the convenience of it. The design is great. Even though it’s a little heavier than our old mixer, it’s easy to handle. The only criticism I have with the design is the beaters. They seem a little weak and they are a little disproportionate to the size of the blender’s body. I haven’t seen any operational issues with the length or strength of the beaters, but it’s a visual observation that I made when unboxing it. The mixer is a little loud. It’s not necessarily louder than other mixers, but I did notice it was audibly loud. Grandma was making a cake early one morning and it woke me up. Not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of when you are using it. This 5-speed blender is a really nice feature-rich upgrade from our old mixer. Grandma was thrilled when I gave it to her and she has really been enjoying using it.

The Oster HeatSoft feature works well. I’ve always left butter out to warm but every so often I leave it out too long, so I was curious about this feature. I used two sticks of cold butter straight out of the fridge, cut into one-inch cubes and tossed in a bowl with the sugar. Turn on HeatSoft for the first couple minutes and warm air blows down on the beaters, softening the butter as it mixes with the sugar. Once the butter is creamed, turn off HeatSoft and mix in the rest of your ingredients. Easy. Our cookies turned out great. We don’t have the counter space for a stand mixer, so we use hand mixers. Most of the time we use a Danish Dough Whisk. The full-size beaters on this mixer is a big upgrade over our smaller old mixer. There is a slider on the handle for on/off and to select the 5 speeds. There is a turbo button above the speed control so you can quickly boost to speed 5 whenever you want. The HeatSoft button is located above the Turbo button and when HeatSoft is on, the button will light up white. The large eject button is next, at the very front. The problem with this hand mixer is the location of the power/speed control. The slider is too low on the handle, by a couple inches. To hold the beater securely by choking up on the handle near the beaters, the controller is covered by the palm of your hand. Controlling the mixer speed with your thumb requires a low grip on the handle, making it harder to control the mixer. The speed control should be located where they placed the beater eject button. The few mixers I’ve owned always had the speed control combined with the eject button, located where this mixer placed the single function eject button. The notch or index you feel when you click each speed could be stiffer. I try to bump it up one speed and end up on 5. Try to bring it back down a bit and end up too low or off. The friction between the speed settings feels fine when it isn’t powered. The poor location of the controller makes it difficult to adjust precisely while mixing. The HeatSoft feature is nice but I couldn’t believe how much more difficult it is to control the speed of this mixer compared to our smaller mixer. The difference between the two is where I’m able to grip the handle and the location of the speed control.

This has all the features of a regular blender with the time saving bonus of heat to soften butter. Pros - Heatsoft really works to soften butter straight from the fridge in just a few minutes - Controls are easy to use and reach with your thumb - Plenty of power - Rose gold accent is nice - Cord storage strap Things to Consider - Storage container sold separately - It can get a little loud - There is some vibration, especially at higher speeds - You have be mindful of the time and cut the butter in small cubes when using heat I would easily recommend. This is a good hand mixer with a time saving feature that others are missing.

Oster has actually come up with a new feature on their hand mixer which makes a baker’s life easier while doing a better job. Too many times I have thought to make a recipe that requires softened better, yet I didn’t have the time to wait for it to come to room temperature. Yes, there is always the microwave, but often it ends up as a mixture of melted and softened butter. Simply slice the butter into 1” cubes, add sugar, and then press the Heatsoft button and mix for 1 - 2 minutes. You’ll see the butter easily and quickly soften in no time at all. How simple, but how helpful! This Oster hand mixer is well built and has a nice appearance with the white and rose gold color. It features 5 speeds with the lowest being gentle enough and the highest being capable for dense mixtures. A Turbo Boost feature is available for thick batters that require a burst of power. Cleaning is made easier with a removable, rose gold magnetic nozzle. The beaters install a bit different as one has to push them in place and then turn them slightly to lock them in place. An eject button then releases the beaters when complete. I’d easily recommend this Oster hand mixer with Heatsoft technology. No more waiting for butter to soften, 5-speed controls cover every mixing need and the build quality feels very solid.

This Oster mixer is an upgrade from any mixer we have had in our home before. I was impressed by the feel and build of the mixer as it has a great look to it right out of the box. The mixer is easy to hold, and simple to operate. Simply plug the whisks into the 2 allotted slots, and utilize the buttons on top to get this up and running. I used the heat function on this mixer a few times already as we made cookies and brownies and softened up the butter really well. Didn’t need to let the butter sit out for a few hours and bring to room temp. Simply pulled out a stick of butter from the fridge, and cut into small inch sections and let this blender do its specialty. Butter was softened up with the Oster’s heat and then I added the rest of my ingredients to mix up. Effortless to use. Really like this blender for the heat feature, but also the look and feel of it. So in my family I’m the baker! I am a dude who thoroughly enjoys the art of a cookie or a cake! It’s been a week and I’ve made caramel cupcakes with a salted caramel filling, a family favorite that requires tempering sugar for different parts of the recipe. The heat feature was really great and helpful in getting through my recipe. I will say these cupcakes have been ruined to not tempering the sugar or buttery correctly so I am amazed with my mixer. I do wish there was more attachments and that it was more compact but other I am quite pleased. The color also matches our kitchen so that helps with counter appeal in case it helps you for this holiday season or if you’re looking for a themed gift!

The Oster HearSoft 5-Speed Mixer is well built and a little prettier than my other hand mixer. It has a nice design and a larger flat surface on the end so you don't have to worry about it falling over when the beaters are full of something creamy (a problem I have had before). It is very easy to put together and operate without using the directions. It comes with 5 speeds and a "turbo" boost to add more power when you need it. The button for the HeatSoft is easily accessible and can be turned on or off for as long or as little as you need. The instructions tell you cut the butter into chunks to melt it when you are mixing it. It is neat to have - but I'm still a put it in the microwave kinda girl. The beaters are easy to put in and take out. Overall, this is a good quality mixer that is nice to look at.

This Oster hand mixer does what other hand mixers do in terms of mixing at multiple speeds in addition to burst button. However, what stands it out from other out there in the market is the HEATSOFT technology that enables this hand mixer to blow gentle warm air to soften cold ingredients while mixing rather than waiting for cold ingredients to reach room temp. I found it a smart addition when I made my lazy cake. Heat was acceptable to soften butter which saved me few minutes to melt it in in a pot. My wife and I saw this and wanted to try and it out. The promise of being able to mix faster by using the heating element to make the butter softer, and fluffier was really cool. Sadly, it seems like there's not a lot of there, there. First and foremost, the mixer is loud, especially with the heating option turned on. It’s heavier than our current Kitchen Aid hand mixer so it was a little awkward at times to control. She said it felt very wobbly, like the center of balance was off. The speed button was in an awkward place, so getting to speed 1 wasn’t really doable. It kept flipping it to 2-3 and trying to adjust down back to 1. Softening butter was ok. If you don’t have time to leave it out it works in a pinch. We followed the instructions, but they didn't really work with the recipe we were making and the butter actually clumped up inside the beaters. We had to let it sit and get much hotter to get things going. I wasn’t overly impressed but my cookies turned out fine. It’s an ok hand mixer. It gets the job done.

I liked this mixer, but it is a little heavy. It did a good job of mixing a stiff cake batter, and it makes delicious mashed potatoes. While I don't use a mixer much, this one fits my needs.

The one thing I liked about the Oster Heatsoft Hand Mixer was the fact that it softened cold butter. No need to leave out the butter to soften first. It’s a convenience, but at a price. The Oster Heatsoft Hand Mixer weighs almost 3lbs including the beaters. After a while it does get a little heavy. It only comes with one set of standard beaters, no storage container or any other attachments. Therefore, in order to store it to protect the beaters, I store it back in the box, which does take up a lot more room. Currently, there are no accessories for this model. The other HeatSoft models do come with extra beaters and a storage case to put them in with the power cord. Unfortunately, there are more cons than pros, at least for me. I’ll start with the pros: PROS: Softened and mixed cold butter and sugar very quickly and easily with the HeatSoft feature. The HeatSoft function isn’t automatic. To engage it just push the button at the top of the hand mixer. Softens frozen butter in just a few minutes as well. But in order to soften it correctly, the sugar needs to be added with the cold/frozen butter, which needs to be cut into tablespoon sized pieces first. The butter doesn’t liquify, just softens using the very low (#1) speed. Frozen butter does take a few minutes longer to soften and mix with the sugar, but it does do a good job. The mixer must start with the very low speed when using the HeatSoft feature so the mixture doesn’t go all over the place. After the Butter/Sugar is softened, then a higher speed can used gradually to fluff and smooth the mixture. Cleaning – The beaters do get pretty warm when using the HeatSoft function, so be carful not to touch them when done. I just eject the beaters into a COOL bowl of water to cool them off before cleaning them. The cover on the HeatSoft sensor is magnetic so it’s also easy to remove and clean. The back or heel of the Oster HeatSoft hand mixer is flat so that it will “sit” up on the counter when not in use. It’s a little top heavy with the mixers attached so be careful not to knock it over. The Oster HeatSoft Hand Mixer has a nice Turbo Boost button for a quick burst of extra speed when needed. It only works on speeds 1 – 4 as 5 is the highest speed. CONS: Attaching the beaters is a little difficult. The first one goes in easily, but the second one takes a bit of maneuvering to get it to click into place. The beaters also wobble a bit when using on low speed but wobble less on the higher speeds. So far, they have stayed in place despite the wobble. The Oster HeatSoft Hand Mixer is quite loud, in my opinion, even louder than my stand mixer. I have had other hand mixers that were a lot quieter than this one. It’s heavier than other hand mixers weighing in at almost 3lbs with the mixers attached, compared to other non HeatSoft hand mixers that are a lot lighter. It does get tiring after a while if mixing for several minutes. The release button for the beaters is somewhat hard to push and takes a little more pressure to release the them. The beaters get quite warm when using the HeatSoft feature and can be hot to the touch which is something I have to remember when using it. I now use only a silicone spatula to clean the excess butter/sugar mixture as it did melt my plastic one on the edges. Not that it’s that hot, but it was hot enough to just melt the edge of my plastic spatula a little bit. Fortunately, the beaters don’t take too long to cool down. Just a few minutes. Conclusion: If you want the convenience of softening butter cold butter, then this will work for you just fine. Personally, there are too many cons for me thus the only the 4*s. It’s also loud and rather heavy. I don’t mind either leaving the butter out for a bit or even softening it in the Microwave. I’d only recommend it to those that do a lot of baking where using the HeatSoft feature is more beneficial.

The hand mixer works well and the heat feature speeds up mixing of ingredients like sticks of butter or or other cold items eliminating the need to sit items out to warm up, the mixer is powerful and has no trouble blending the ingredients.

My long time GE Hand Mixer finally died after more than 10 year and over 500 banana nut bread. This one has picked up and hasn't stop as it has been put to the test over the holidays to make that 100 plus banana nut bread that is made each year. I like the heat soft for the butter wasn't sure how that worked at first but it is like a hair dryer blow heat down over the blenders to help soften the butter

if you're like me and tend to bake spontaneously then this is great for that not having time to allow the cream cheese or butter to soften. Or if you dont read the whole recipe and forget to set them out ahead of time. The heat feature alone is worth it. I will say on my second batch the batter seemed to start to travel up the mixers. It was weird but probably operator error.

Don’t expect it to get too warm but it does soften the butter when you use the heating element it is very solidly built
