When I first saw this film I was very surprised with how good it actually is! The trailers do NOT do this film justice! While not a perfect movie by any means, it's a very fun and thrilling movie with some truly unsettling and disturbing moments. There are lots of practical effects, the music is well done, and the acting for the most part is great! This 4K Blu-Ray is sourced from a 2K DI like most Paramount releases, but the image quality is solid with good HDR! There aren't that many bonus features which is a real bummer, but for the price I would recommend this movie!

A Genre Exercise at its Finest

Here’s the thing about Overlord: I saw the trailer so many times I felt like I knew the movie back to front before I even walked in. It was one of those things where I’d notice something different or pick up on something new every time I saw the trailer to the point that when I realized the actual feature was opening this weekend it wasn’t that I didn’t necessarily care to see it, but I definitely felt indifferent about buying a ticket to a movie I didn’t expect to gain anything more from that I hadn’t already been conditioned to expect from the trailer. I tell this aspect of the story to lend a little perspective on why Overlord then ultimately came to be something of a pleasant surprise. In expecting a certain level of craft, care, and creativity I low-balled my expectations and was more than happy to find out I was wrong when the film kicked off and immediately kicked into high gear with a level of energy that was infectious. Stranger even, the opening of the film is the same scene that opens the trailer, but while there is the expectation of this being a full feature rather than a short preview there is also something to the altered pacing, musical accompaniment, and/or character dynamics that immediately plays into the level of investment one is willing to give no matter how much they think they know. This is a long way of getting around to saying that, despite the initial indifference through which it had to battle, Overlord is a movie that does very well at what it's built to do. It’s not an exceptional film that says something new or even anything terribly interesting about life or the psychology each of us project on its meaning, but as a movie that sets out to combine the terror of war with the terror of a zombie apocalypse and roll those into a somewhat hackneyed, but fully aware camp fest-Overlord accomplishes everything it could hope to and then some.

Overlord is one of the better hybrid horror films in memory, trailing perhaps only From Dusk Till Dawn in its level of fun. Important to note, that by "hybrid" I'm not including "seamless" films, such as, say, Aliens, where action permeates the entire film, but those movies, such as the aforementioned From Dusk Till Dawn, that suddenly "switch gears". Where Dusk goes from a typical Tarantino-esque small time gangster film to a vampire buffet in its second act, Overlord likewise has a point where a World War 2 film goes to a "near" zombie film. But, these aren't zombies, as the previews left many believing. These are more along the lines of Captain America super-soldiers gone horrifically wrong. (Although the serum being used does bring the dead back to life). While the second half of Overlord may not be quite as successful as its opening act, it's because that first half is SO effective that any small failures can be overlooked. Because, that introduction and ensuing story is among some of the better WW2 story-telling we've had in some time. The opening scene itself is a spectacle second only to the opening moments of Saving Private Ryan. And from those beginnings through the soldiers' trek, the characterization is top-notch, with viewers developing a relationship with the soldiers as they head off towards their mission. It's that relationship with the characters that keeps things moving when we have a stumble here and there with the monsters. Those stumbles are more a result of a budget, but even some dialogue explaining some of what we've been exposed to in the laboratory would have been welcome. There's some missed opportunities in the latter half, but nothing that makes the film fall apart or kill the enjoyment. Definitely a fun film to add to your library.

I went into this movie with tempered expectations. However, left genuinely impressed. The story itself is rather straight forward; nothing too complex. That's okay for a movie like this. If you don't mind the blood/gore and occasional tension, then you'll have no problem watching this. Where this movie REALLY shines however, is in its A/V department. The 4K UHD disc provides exceptional video clarity and detail. Colors pop out when they need too, nice rich blacks that aren't washed out. Video - 5/5. Audio - is on an entirely different world. The LFE especially is particularly chest pounding and deep. Atmos and surround effects are detailed and well balanced with voice/dialogue crystal clear and easy to understand. I highly, highly recommend this movie.

Overload for me was a rare treat. A movie that I enjoyed from the opening frames of the classic Paramount logo all the way until the enjoyable ending. While the movie was sold in some markets as a Zombie movie, Overlord has much more in common with the core plot of the Wolfenstein video games. It is still a horror movie but it is more of a mix of science fiction and supernatural than most Zombie movies are. If you are looking for horror movie that takes chances and tries some different things you will likely enjoy Overlord. I have seen a view reviewers rate Overload poorly due to historical inaccuracies that exist in the film. While I understand the frustration I have a hard time marking down a horror film for being historically inaccurate when one of the core plot threads of the film is fighting undead super soldiers which I am pretty sure is also historically inaccurate. :)

As silly as the premise of the Third Reich creating an army of zombies is, Overlord is a surprisingly fun horror combat flick from J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot Productions. Part of its success is director Julius Avery making the absurdity and explosive action feel much like a first-person shooter video game without actually imitating any known source. Zombies invade the hostile territory of Ultra HD with an occasionally stunning Dolby Vision HDR presentation that nicely adds a few notable improvements over the Blu-ray and an awesome, reference-quality Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Although featuring a puny assortment of bonus features, the overall UHD package is recommended for genre fans everywhere.

would like ppl to know this movie is NOT for kids. O.k. that's out of the way, movie is set on the day b4 D-Day and an army unit is sent behind enemy lines to knock out a radar / radio station that the germans have set up that can picked up the allies plane secretly flying into France for D-Day. After dropping into enemy lines, what's left of unit proceed to radio site only to find out that there's also been secret experiments going on to the villagers with horrorifying results , and that's when it goes crazy insane with germans, monsters, and everyone is trying to get out alive. This movie is awesome!

    Overlord Deserves Better Rating

Overlord was mediocre at the box office but I really enjoyed this movie. A WWII movie with some slight zombie's in it? Heck yeah! I was surprised that the Dolby Vision HDR didn't make it look too dark. Everything in the night time & castle scenes were detailed and visible throughout. The Dolby Atmos I found average but did have some decent overheads in the opening air drop scenes. I don't recall anything too much for the rest of the movie. The bonus is definitely the bass: it is pounding in this movie. The first few chapters are booming with bass and I ended up having to turn down my receiver it was so loud. (I didn't want to annoy my neighbor anymore than I do when watching movies late night.)

Overlord is a movie that knows what it is but still manages to be higher quality than most b-movie horrors. 4k makes some scenes stand out fairly well like the opening sequence and some later battle scenes. Packaging is fairly standard, all in all good purchase.

I had been waiting for this movie ever since I saw a trailer. I missed its release date on DVD/Blu-Ray. Happened to decide to spend my "Father's Day" gift (BB gift card) and saw this movie was out and available. Lived up to the reviews and definitely worth the wait. Not really a zombie flick per se. For some reason, it made me think of the "Wolfenstein" video/computer game (which I had started playing in the "90s.") It definitely isn't based on same. Worth the purchase. I had been missing a good, horror, adventure movie. This worked for me on that front.

I had seen the trailer for this movie awhile back, at the movie theater, while I was there to see another movie. Figured I'd wait for dvd and it's good. Not a keeper for me, but good. I thought they did a good job of building or explaining each main character early in the movie. Having seen the trailer, you know something is up, but not exactly what. No spoilers here, but there's a couple of gory scenes. Having said that, it is a war movie. ;) I'd only recommend it to friends that I knew had a certain level of action/blood tolerance. Not a date movie, lol.

A film like this has got no right to be this good, yet right from the outset the John Carpenter-esque opening beats and visceral parachute drop into enemy territory, Overlord maintains intensity and unpredictability. Playing out like the Dusk Til Dawn of WWII movies, it slow-burns the revelations, seeing a group of soldiers dropped into occupied France for a secret mission to destroy a communications tower, only to find that the tower sits atop an underground lab where the Naz are conducting secret experiments on the local townsfolk.

I really enjoyed this movie. IF you want some decent gore and violence this movie is good for you. The reason I say this is because if you're not into the whole gore scene, but want an aspect of it in your movie experience, Thant his is the movie for you. the movie has a great story line, which is why I rated it so high. The graphics was decent, more decent than most, but the FX of the violence could use some work. Nonetheless, was a great movie. Would watch it again with friends.

I wasn’t able to catch this in theatres, so I was excited to see this edition at Best Buy. I downloaded the HD iTunes version to my computer, and I now also have the blu ray and dvd copies. As for the movie, it is an extremely fast paced action/horror movie that takes place during World War II. Fans of gritty, Tarantino-ish movies should definitely check it out. I’ve seen hundreds of horror movies, and this one really does a good job of separating itself from the stream of “usual” flicks in the genre.

Overlord - B Movie At Its Finest

Overlord is essentially a B-movie with a Hollywood budget, great action, and a TON of gore. This movie is an action-horror set during World War II when a bunch of American Soldiers discover that the Germans are up to something sinister in one of their bases. It's awesome to watch. Overlord is the type of movie that is going to develop a cult fanbase years from now. It is fun and will satisfy those looking for both intense action and gory horror, and I can easily recommend this. Don't miss it.

Overlord is the best genre bending action movie in recent memory. Soldiers are trying destroy a radio tower to make sure D-Day is a success, but they didn't count on the German's monstrous experiments to run amok and make war that much more horrific. The story is exciting, the special effects are top-notch, and the action is unrelenting. It's a great war movie and a horror movie. Overlord is the best of both worlds!

If you like war or horror films, then "Overlord" was made for you (and me)! This was yet another film I missed when it was released in theaters last November, basically because the trailers were not selling it to me as something that I needed to see right away......but after picking up this combo pack, I can honestly say I had a great time with this flick! This is also the closest we're going to come to getting a "Wolfenstein" - type film out of Hollywood for awhile!
