I honestly thought that all microwaves were created equal. Enter this model; it is the best microwave that I have ever used. The defrost sensor mode is amazing, my food is perfect every time. Definitely worth the extra money it costs.

The tech within the microwave is everything that it claims to be. I am very happy with the overall purchase. The reason I reduced some stars is because I bought this microwave specifically based on the listed dimensions because I have a very specific location I needed it to fit in. NONE of the listed dimensions are accurate so the only reason I bought this unit was a lie. I decided to not return it because it is such a cool microwave.

Looks nice and works well. We probably don't need and won't use all of the extra features. We had to cut a larger hole in the cabinet to fit the bigger power plug.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we are sorry to hear about the issue with the microwave. Please contact the support team at https://shop.panasonic.com/contactus to see how we can help you with this particular situation. -C

At first, a smart microwave that doesn't even have a number pad sounds crazy. But Panasonic executes on this very well. While it doesn't require Alexa, setup was very quick and easy and works very well. After plugging in the microwave, I just opened the Alexa app on my phone selected add device and just followed the prompts. Afterwards, I realized there's apparently and even easier setup method, but just following the Alexa prompts was plenty easy.
Then, to use the microwave, all you have to do, is toss in your food and say "Alexa, microwave for 3 minutes" and in under a second the microwave starts. That responsiveness is what really makes this work. Otherwise it would be a silly gimmick. But I found myself enjoying starting the microwave just by voice.
If internet is down, or you don't have Alexa, the microwave is still completely useable. The knob/dial lets you set the time in 5 second increments. You can also navigate the menus with the buttons and the knob to use the sensor cooking functions or change other cooking parameters.
The other key feature of this microwave is the sensor cooking. The microwave promotes smart sensor cooking to cook things perfectly. In my experience, it has worked well enough, but at the same time it's a bit limited. It only has a few programs for specific a few specific foods (e.g. potato, and of course popcorn), and then a few general ones (i.e. frozen dinner). For such programs, you just have to say "alexa microwave frozen dinner" and it starts.
You can also put in some leftovers, and just press the start/sensor cook button, and it will start cooking without you having to specify a time. I think usually I'd rather just say "cook for 2 minutes" or something.
As for the smaller details... the microwave is actually rather quiet. Maybe my old one was just really noisy; but I can barely hear this one running. The stainless steel on this looks nice, and it's a very modern looking microwave, but it's a fingerprint magnet. Especially considering you're likely to be handling foods when using this, the door release has already required me to wipe it down a couple of times so it doesn't look greasy.
All in all though, I'm really happy with this microwave

I bought this product in July of 2022, this review is being written in May of 2025, and the microwave throws a code E--5 and shuts off.
Not even three years old and has malfunctioned. Not acceptable for a $300+ microwave.
Unfortunately I did not purchase an extended warranty.

Purchased based on reviews and size. Came without a power cord installed in the machine. Had to return it.
We can verify that the power cord should have been included in the box. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We value our customers' opinions and would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. -M

I would not recommend. We used it (mostly heating water for tea and warming leftovers). It stopped working after 2 months. Thankfully Panasonic worked with us and are refunding our money. We did not find the Alexa commands overwhelming helpful. Also, you have to push too many buttons even to clear it after the cooking stopped. And I could not for the life of me turn off the beep. We ended up with a Toshiba.
Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we're sorry to hear that your experience with our microwave did not meet your expectations. We appreciate that you highlighted the challenges you faced, particularly with the Alexa commands and the functionality of the buttons. While we're glad that our support team was able to assist with your refund, we regret any inconvenience you experienced. Your comments are valuable and will be considered as we continue to improve our products and customer experience. -M
