Best 4K player little pricey but worth it………..,,,,,2nd best 4k player on the market next to it big bother which is the best on the market

Well I here everybody saying good things about this player so I bought it. And my Sony x800 player stopped working after 3 years. First thing the shipping was bad my box was beat up when I got it. So I'm not sure if thats why I had problems with it. I played 7 movies in it in 3 days. 2 movies locked up and I had to start it over and the one movie locked up 2 times. Then the last movie I played in it the sound cut out half way through the movie. So I decided to return it I had enough. I had them reorder a new one for me so I will see if I will have the same problem with the next one. If so then I guess I will try the high end sony. But the Sony doesn't like my anthem the well. I'm not sure what else to go to. I will say picture quality top notch. Functionality could use a little work for a higher end play to play disk better.

Way better than the Sony UBP-ux80 that it replaces. Both picture and sound is clear. Only using a high end sound bar for this setup, but I’m guess would need at least 5.1 surround to fully utilize

Well this is a very good 4K blu ray player but it is a bit confusing to setup. I would strongly recommend looking it up on YouTube. There are several setup tutorials on this particular machine. Overall excellent player it supports Dolby Vision and HDR 10+

Piece of junk! This player didn't even last 7 months before I started having problems! Man I miss Oppo!!! After 7 months of use, my UB820-K player is showing massive amounts of artifacts, locking up, and then no sound while trying to watch movies. The weird part is it will play the first 15 mins of the movie just fine and then it starts acting up. After Oppo quit making 4k players we are now left with overhyped junk from the likes of Panasonic. I purchased this UB820-k to get my feet wet with the brand, so glad I didn't jump in head first with the UB9000. Buyer beware.

If it weren't for the fact that the buttons to open or power it are on TOP (and thus difficult for me to get at considering the location of this in my entertainment unit), I would've given this 5 stars. But I really dislike the fact that the placement forces me to ONLY use the remote to open and close the tray. I had a Sony higher end model that was frequently skipping and stuttering. I found out after many years of use that it was apparently a common thing in those models, so I finally decided to replace it. I only use this to play discs. I have a smart TV that I use only as a monitor. Any apps I use from my Apple TV box, so all I can write about is the disc usage. I use a Yamaha AVR to control all my devices, everything goes through that. And this gives me all the things I expected, all the various types of Dolby or Atmos work great here, as do the various Dolby vision and HDR options I need. Remote I wish was backlit since sometimes by touch it's annoying to find where the transport keys are. And a efw times trying to hit something I get that netflix button by accident and it blows up everything I'm trying to do. But the picture quality, sound quality, menu navigation, all flawless. None of the juddering that I had with the Sony. Definitely was an upgrade I wish I had grabbed sooner.

I paid $424.98 for a Brand New unit and Best Buy sent me an open box refurbished unit, which they sell for $204.99. Ripping me off of over $200. Would not expect fraud from a major company like this. I will be contacting Best Buy and if that fails the Attorney General of Minnesota, their headquarters home state. Not cool, Best Buy.

Already having a Sony UHD Blu-ray player, I bought this Panasonic with three objectives: (1) hoped-for higher reliability, (2) Dolby Vision, and (3) niche-of-niches, Panasonic's current exclusive on being able to play 4K content from the Berlin Philharmonic’s Digital Concert Hall (The latter promises to make their 4K-enabled version available on other manufacturers’ Blu-ray players and smart TVs eventually, but at the time of this writing, it was available only on current Panasonic products.) My review, therefore, is based primarily on how much of an improvement the Panasonic is over my Sony, and this is an important comparison because the Panasonic costs more than twice as much as the current competing Sony model. The majority of you will not care if the device plays the Digital Concert Hall at all, much less in 4K; so how well does the Panasonic meet my other expectations? First, as to reliability, it seems a little more stable than the Sony, but I have had occasion, in only the first few weeks of use, to have to unplug the player and plug it back in in order to get out of a freeze. It's no worse than the Sony and at least the Panasonic can be disconnected at its rear panel. But there is another reliability issue: it has proved finicky about what discs it will play. So far, this has affected the playing of only one disc, but that’s one out of perhaps eight. The thing that makes me afraid, at this point, that it may not have been a fluke is that I have owned a previous Panasonic Blu-ray player (up to about 2 years ago), which was even fussier about what discs it would play—it could not handle the kind of wear that was common on rental discs; for all its flaws the Sony has had no problem with this and was able to play a recent rental that the Panasonic was choking on even though the surface appeared to be flawless). This is rather disconcerting in a player that appears to have better build quality and costs twice as much. It plays Dolby Vision discs well, but here’s the rub: it won’t play the more common HDR (HDR10) format from network sources such as Amazon Prime and YouTube. Searching web forums, I found that this is not an uncommon problem with this player, although some users have reported that their Panasonics initially wouldn’t play HDR content but later began to for no apparent reason. Several professional reviewers have noted that its user interface is rather unattractive and its selection of smart apps somewhat limited and clumsily presented. And speaking of clumsy, the remote control is just so-so; the arrangement of buttons doesn’t seem to be as helpful as it might be. There are more functions available on this remote than on some others: separate buttons for “status” and “playback info,” for example, one for “internet,” one for “HDR Setting,” and a numeric keypad. One oddity is a closed-captioning button, which allows for displaying analog or digital closed-captioning; that may be useful for some people, but it is notable for what it is NOT: a subtitles button. To turn subtitles on for a disc, one has to go into the disc menu. In addition, I have not been able to find a way to update the streaming apps; hopefully, the player does this automatically if one enables system (firmware) updates in the options; but firmware updates aren’t exactly the same thing as app updates, so who knows? So what is the bottom line? I suggest looking into the Sony UBP-X700 or UBP-X800 players because they can play HDR10 network streaming content (and the X700 can play Dolby Vision as well). As a bonus, they play SACDs. I regret to say that both the Sony and the Panasonic have significant flaws, especially in terms of reliability, but at this point it appears that the Sonys are the lesser of two evils, and at considerable cost savings. Look carefully at the feature differences between the Sony X700 & X800, as well as the Panasonic before you decide.

After giving up on 2 Sony 4K players (2019 models) after repeated freezing problems while watching movies on disk, I bought this Panasonic for a fair amount more money, but I just wanted something that actually worked as claimed. This Panasonic works like a champ. Not one freeze in several movies. The picture is bright and sharp. Dolby Vision is beautiful. Colors just pop. Aquaman was amazing in Dolby Vision on this player. Sound quality is great. Offers hi-res audio. I do downgrade it for the remote and operating system. The remote is just OK at best. I do find myself pressing the wrong button fairly often due to it's poor layout. The operating system is ugly and awkward. You'll find it's limited selection of apps under "Network Services", which is not intuitive at all. This is one area that Panasonic could learn something from the competition. The device is not as compact as some other brands. Case is plastic, not metal. Having said all that, I'm very happy with this purchase. The most important thing to me is picture and sound quality. And on those points, I give this 5 stars.

As the title indicates, this is where the player shines along with amazing imaging processor. You can mess with contrast, brightness, white and black tone curves to get the HDR just right on your tv. The Tone Mapping on this thing is probably better than on most tvs. But there is some serious trail and error with this. The Bluray 1080p to 4k upscaling is awesome. I have not messed with any Apps yet except constantly going to Netflix by accident. Having said that, I will say that I do hate the big Netflix button on the remote. It sits above and very close to the tiny up button. So if you're scrolling through menus you will eventually hit that stupid button! Idk why they did that. It does have Dolby Vision from the update a while back. The only option is to turn it on or off from the Setup menu. You can't switch it on the fly between this and HDR as far as I know by remote. From what I see, you have to stop the the movie, go into the menu and turn it off for HDR. And there is no option to adjust Dolby Vision settings like you can with SDR and HDR

Solidly built, works perfectly with my old Panasonic HDTV. It downscales 4K brilliantly and sends Atmos to my Marantz Cinema 70s too. I only have 3 or 4 Ultra HD Blu-rays that also do some flavor of HDR, but the player does a good job with my copies of the Dune films, pushing the picture back in the plain-old-HD space. Adjusted for inflation, this machine would have cost around $250 in 2010, which was the last time I bought a Blu-ray player. The interface is fast, and while I’m only using the HDMI port, I like the fact it has “legacy” RCA outputs for audio and an optical out port.

I upgraded from a very capable Sony X700, I wasnt expecting much of a difference in picture, this was mainly for sound. I watched Ready player one on the X700 quite a few times so Im familiar with the visuals and audio of it. When I turned on the race scene for the 1st key on the Panasonic, my jaw, and heart both dropped! The colors were so vibrant, the lighting effects were so visible and apparent, the edges were so clean and defined, and the Dolby Vision was like nothing I have ever seen before. The sound had a solid body like I havent heard before, it was defiantly front and center and demanded you attention. The bass was thick and powerful, the mids were perfectly audible, and the highs were balanced. I saw and heard things I havent before, and this Panasonic made me fall in love with the movie all over again. It brought colors and details out on my OLED that I didnt think was possible. This player just gets better, I put on Wreak it Ralph on Blu-Ray for my son. If I didnt know any better I would have thought it was a 4k bluray with HDR! It just looked so bright and vibrant, and the 4k upscaller did a beautiful job. I then tried another blu-ray, Christmas story, it did wonders, it took 30 years of that movie! This is by far the best 4k bluray player on the market, Panasonic's UB-9000 is $1,000 but it is meant or serious audiophiles with serious setups. The UB-820 and UB-9000 both share the same graphics capabilities, and sound is the same quality. The UB-9000 gives you alot more high quality analog outputs which the majority of us with a home theater wont us because we HDMI for all our audio. Trust me, if you have a great home theater setup, this player will complete it for years to come, and you will not regret this purchase.

so luxurious and beautiful image quality! sheer perfection! This player seemed so expensive to use for dvd's and blurays and 4k blurays since there are so many cheaper options out there. even my x-box series x plays 4k blurays and also is a top of the line gaming system at the same price. It seemed like a rip off, but now that I've purchased it I am relieved at how amazing it is!!! I have an LG 4K OLED tv and this makes everything look so much better than when I stream a movie!! I also have a lot of old dvd's and I am always skeptical of upscaling technology. If you've ever used a samsung tv you know what I'm talking about. But this thing upscales my old crappy dvd's so well it looks like it could be a bluray or even 4k bluray! It blew me away and looks so color accurate and amazing!!!! I use the seperate audio out function as well for crisp amazing 7.2 sound. It is insane how good this thing makes movies sound! The 'smart' functions need a lot of work, it almost looks like i'm using an old windows version 3.1 computer, but once you get used to the awful graphic user interface you realize the apps act just the same as they do on any other smart device, normally i'd just keep streaming over my xbox since the GUI is so good on that, but the video and sound quality when you stream over this device it's so much better that I can't go back to using the xbox. I highly recommend this machine!!!

I recently purchased a new LG OLED B8 series TV. After setting it up I soon realized that my two year old UHD blu-ray player could not handle the newer Dolby Vision mastering found on most recent UHD disc releases. So I decided to look around for a newer player. I did a lot of research both on line and in stores. I was aware of the Panasonic 900 unit that was released last year and I'd read that it could do an amazing job with UHD HDR material. But it had been on the market for about a year and there was a second generation model (the DP-UB820) just entering the market. The price was quite high compared to others on the market, but I really wanted to get everything I could out of my new OLED screen. So this looked promising. Since OPPO left the market last year, Panasonic has more or less taken their place. They now offer several UHD blu-ray players that are reasonably priced that have the ability to process high end audio and UHD HDR video. Their players feature options where you can tweak critical parameters of the HDR signal before it is sent to your UHD display. They also maintain flexibility in connecting to older AVRs and panels. This model is certainly not cheap when compared to similar units that are out there. But what you are paying for is really the advanced processing technology found under the cover. From that perspective, I believe it represents a great value in the long run. I really appreciate that I can select to upscale all inserted discs to 4k, which makes all of my blu-ray HD discs look fabulous (even without HDR.) I also like the ability to take UHD HDR encoded discs and optimize them on the fly for the lighting conditions of the room. All discs load quickly and I have yet to find one that failed to load. In fact, I love this Panasonic model so much that I bought a second one for my media room upstairs where I have an Epson projector. The HDR modification options really make a huge difference in that environment. There are two items you might want to know before purchasing this player: 1) It does not have is an HDMI input. This can be a valuable feature if you want to use the onboard processing for another external source. 2) It will not playback SACD or DVD audio discs. So if you have a large collection of these, you should consider this. However, it will playback almost all other high res types of media files. Overall, this Panasonic player has far exceeded my expectations. It does everything I need today. And with firmware updates it may be the last blu-ray player I should feel the need to purchase for a very long time.

This is an absolutely amazing Blu-ray players and one I can't recommend enough. The 4K HDR video looks incredible and puts lower end video to shame. The surround sound is equally impressive. The unit is silent and I can't even hear it running when my ear is up close to it. It also makes regular Blu-ray and DVD discs look great. I love the display on the front. It is limited as to what it shows but most importantly how much time has elapsed on the movie you are watching. This can be a lifesaver when you are watching a bad movie with the wife and can't ask her how much time is left. This is one of the very few players with such a display. There are a few things to know. It does not come with an HDMI cable so if you don't have one around, you will have to buy one. The interface for everything is nice except for the network features which is seriously outdated. I kept the video setting at their default which gave me great results but had to change the sound settings to get the surround sound to sound right. I can't recommend this player enough. I have one in the man cave and will be getting another one for the living room.

The DP-UB820 is one of the more expensive 4K Blu-Ray players, and it is worth every penny. It delivers wonderful results on 4K discs, HD Blu-Ray, and even DVDs. The image processor is stellar and does a wonderful job of upscaling. Construction is solid and the look is clean. It is VERY quiet during playback. The UI is simple and adjusting settings is straightforward. The remote has an underwhelming appearance, but it does the job. HDMI-CEC works with other manufacturers' televisions, so I control everything (except the occasional adjustment to settings) with my television remote. This is one of very few HD Blu-Ray players that auto-detects HDR10, HDR10+, and DolbyVision. While that may sound innocuous, the lack thereof in other players is a major PITA. I expect to get many (many) years of use from the DP-UB820, making its price a non-issue. It is an absolute winner!

I bought this solely for the Dolby Vision compatibility, and based on the fact that the player will AUTOMATICALLY recognize DV and switch to that output format. The Sony models that "have Dolby Vision" make you manually switch it to DV every time you want to watch a DV disc. No thanks. I had an LG model previously and it was passable, but I wanted something a little higher end. I have a 65E7 with a Marantz pre-amp, 2 power amps and 7 Martin Logan speakers. I figured if the entire system I use ran several thousand, I shouldn't use a $150 4K player. I'm not sure if this is a huge improvement or not, but sometimes a placebo effect is worth a bit of added cost. The user interface is clunky and something I try to just ignore mainly. I wish the remote had bluetooth connectivity to the player, because I have trouble getting the IR signal into my Salamander console. It works well enough, but sometimes I have to move my arm around until the IR line of sight connects. As a player, it's great. I would NEVER use this thing for streaming. But it's quiet, and it loads the discs quickly and without issue. I wish the 420 had Dolby Vision, because it's quite a price hike to jump from that model to this one. I managed to get this open box in Magnolia for a bit of a discount, so I grabbed Geek Squad protection 4-year plan in case anything happens. At least if it breaks, I'll be able to get another expensive player for free. Overall, since there are very few DV-compatible disc players remaining on the market, I would recommend this one.

This would be a great player for those who just want to sit and watch a movie straight through. The picture is definitely all they claim; if you've read the glowing reviews, the hype is true. We have an Oled t.v. and so we're used to having a great picture, but this player brings it to another level of gorgeousness, on most decent quality source material, and even makes streamed video look way better than on my other favorite deck. This could have been among the best players ever if they had gotten together with Oppo's designers who have stopped producing their superb players. It's not so great for those of us who like to back up, catch what you missed in the way of dialogue, scenery, etc. No subtitle button means that you'll have to dig through menus each time you want to figure out what someone said if it's a muddled soundtrack. If you only like Netflix, you're in luck because it's the only shortcut button on the remote. There is no "favorite" or user selectable button to use for Prime, etc. so you'll have to go to a selection screen and hear some loud beeps when choosing something other than a disc or Netflix. Also, the remote controls are not very user friendly, since none of the most often used buttons come under the thumb when it is held normally in the hand. You'll have to keep looking at it to make sure you don't hit a wrong button. Also, there are several buttons that can knock you clear out of what ever it is you're watching if you reach about 2 mm too far and hit the wrong one. There are some rudimentary disc spinning controls... pause of course, slow or fast scan in either direction, but no frame-by-frame and no zoom (not that any player these days has zoom I guess). Reaction time is sluggish (probably to ensure the best picture possible at all times). Streaming is slow to access. Again this is probably due to the advanced picture processing ensuring the best picture I guess. As I mentioned, Netflix is the only one that has its own button, and other than that, you can go to a screen that looks like a bunch of child's blocks to play with, and choose from amazon or flix or another square which has several other choices of content to choose from in it. Each click of the "wheel" buttons results in a very loud piniging sound, which seems to not have any means by which to shut it off other than to mute your amp. All of this really makes me wonder about the manner in which they went about designing this unit, and the other two in this series: best ever picture but very clumsy on almost every other aspect. I do like Panasonic as a company and I do look forward with hope that they will come up with a real winner in another year or so.

I'm really enjoying this blu ray player. Everything looks fantastic, from my DVDs to my 4ks. The upscaling is nice and seems natural. I did get it on sale so I'm pretty happy with it.
