After my previous Sony 4K BluRay player failed shortly after its product warranty period expired, I decided to try this model from Panasonic, especially since I was able to get it for $150 off the regular price. The multiple great reviews here have been spot on and I have had no issues at all with this player. Audio and video are both awesome. Highly recommend!

I wanted the best 4K Player to deliver video to my Sony XBR-75X900F. I did some research and S&V rated this player very highly. The picture is crystal clear and colors are detailed. The HDR Mapping is a really nice feature also. Excellent purchase.

Picture and sound quality are top notch. For the price, i would have expected the unit to be dead quiet, but you can easily hear the disc motor spinning up and running, as well as seek noises. I would expect this to be quiet if not silent for the price, but i guess they reserved that for their $1000 model. The build quality is what i’d expect of a $200 bluray player from 5 years ago, not a modern $400+ unit. The menus are also as bare bones as it gets — they are fully functional, but little more than black on gray text. Panasonic has always been known for putting zero effort into their user interfaces, but they’re still doing this on a fairly premium item in 2023… seriously? On the plus side, it hasn’t given me any issues and plays everything I throw it without any hiccups.

Upgraded from 700M Sony player, and it has been quite worth it. Automatic Dolby Vision switching and hdr adjustments make the picture look better than it had, and it sounds much better as well. Have experienced far fewer freezes during playback.

I try to reserve the Excellent rating for items that are truly best-in-class in all categories. This player is outstanding with regards to video quality, particularly with 4k content. Upscaling 1080p through my Marantz SR7012 AV receiver is also excellent. You will not go wrong if you are looking for a 4k player.
Feature wise, the player is fine, but it just seems to be a bit behind the times. Some of the user interface seems a bit dated compared to other devices (not necessarily players), but it certainly has the features needed to perform the functions you need.
I would definitely buy this again.

I'm very impressed with this player. I previously had a high-end Oppo blu-ray that had wonderful video and audio quality, but it was slower than molasses loading disks. The setup menus were also poorly designed. The Oppo died right around when I got my 4K TV, so based on WireCutter's review, I bought this player. It's sleek and looks nice in the cabinet. Set up was a snap. I didn't need to do much to get the main settings right and be able to watch a DVD. What a gorgeous picture! I've so far sampled The Matrix and Ready Player One 4K discs. The detail is amazing and suits my LG OLED TV nicely. Diving into the settings to make a few advanced adjustments, I found the menus easy to navigate and responsive. I've also been pleased with the upsampling quality of non-4K blu-rays. Highly recommended.

I’ve used the first generation Sony UBP-X800 for about four years and been content with the performance. I have been looking at this model recently since it has HDR10+ and DolbyVision unlike the Sony. A price drop and open box deal made me pull the trigger. I had no idea what I was missing.
The 4K video looks much more natural. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 always looked fake to me on the Sony, but the Panasonic looks more lifelike. Other movies have more natural skin tones and colors pop without being too much. Upscaling from 1080P is also a strength of this player. I only have Mad Max: Fury Road in 1080P and it looks amazing when upscaled by the UB820.
Audio really surprised me on this model. I really thought my 7.1 surround sound system would sound the same hooked to any player. That is not the case. Sound is more dynamic and even louder on the UB820. I usually kept the volume between 60 and 65 with the Sony but that would tick off the neighbors now. Anything over 55 is too much.
I highly recommend UB820 if you have a nice TV and surround sound system. I was worried I would be spending money and barely perceiving a difference, but my surround sound system is at a new level.
A few tips if you buy one:
- Connect the unit to the internet and download the latest firmware before doing anything else.
- Do some internet research on the proper settings for you system to make sure you’re getting the most from the unit.
- Make sure you have a quality hdmi cable capable of 4K.

Have an OPPO 203 that is hacked to play all regions and can upscale to 4K but doesnt play 4K CDs nor does it have HDR or Dolby Vision. We have a 4K OLED TV so decided to buy the Panny UB820 since it does all the above and more. Has many features like two HDMI outputs just like the OPPO. This unit will also upscale and add some HDR luminence to your Blue Ray's so they are close to the picture of the 4K mastered movies. The apps for streaming are OK. Netflix works fabulously but the Amazon Prime app needs work. It's sluggish, glitchy and drops connection occasionally. I have this player hard wired to my internet modem BTW. Hopefully Panasonic will do a firmware update and fix the app. All in all for the price, this player is best bang for the buck.

THIS IS THE BEST PLAYER FOR THE MONEY....Period. HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision. Works seamlessly with my 2020 Samsung Series 9 Quantum Dot HDR 75" TV. Great Picture. That being said....The model below it, for about $225 has the same GPU as this one and the same exact GREAT picture. I have both. NOTE !!!! IF YOU burn Blu Rays (BD-R) copies this player is the only player I have found that will play them. I back up my favorite TV shows and BD Music. AND YES, I always buy extended warrantees. *** I do not feel sorry for people who's equipment falls apart when we are buying the lowest price stuff we can get from China or the Far East. If this player was made in the USA it would cost $2000 and still might fall apart. Cheers!

i was a little skeptical at first when purchasing this player for $500 so i waited for black friday and picked up for $350. all i can say is wow! this is a great player. i previously owned a sony ubp x700 and always felt i was missing something when it came to my 4k discs. i immediately could tell the difference in video quality. superb picture. this player supports both dolby atmos and dolby vision for those interested. it gives you the option to adjust discs that only support hdr content. i will say that this player i solely use for watching discs. i do not stream from it. so i can't offer really any comment from that perspective. overall a great addition to my entertainment center and much better than my last blu ray player. highly recommend it.

Great player. Good for 4K, 3D, and standard Blu-rays and standard DVDs. Excellent picture and sound. Also good as a DLNA renderer, allowing pushing video and music to it - and it plays surround music sent to it as surround, unlike AVRs that knock them back to stereo when used a renderers.

Best DVD player I have owned. The picture looks amazing and I like that standard dvds and blue ray dvds are upscaled. I paired it with my LG CX and my Vizio surround sound and it feels like you are in the theatre. You can hear the background noise, people talking in the background footsteps you name it is an incredible experience. Definitely worth the money, I’m impressed with the picture quality. 4k movies on this player will blow you away. If you are shopping for a DVD player pick this one you won’t be disappointed.

Picture quality is pretty great. Connected to a C2 OLED via an HDMI 2.1 cable. Seems to do a great job of selecting the best picture settings for the content you put through it. On screen menu feels like an afterthought. I do feel like the price is there because Panasonic knows there are not currently too many competitors that offer the features this unit offers and the field of manufacturers that could go up against them is shrinking, so their prices expand accordingly. Supply and demand, I guess. While I do recommend this unit to other videophiles, I do not recommend it to the average person trying to enjoy a movie with the kids.

I have Sony Master Series TV and was using a Sony UBPX700 4k player which painfully did not auto detect Dolby Visions so you had to turn it on manually in the menu, the turn it off if a movie is normal HDR.
I wasn't sure the the picture would be any better by getting the Panasonic but after reading some reviews I picked this up. I am pleased to announce that the picture is much butter and breathtakingly soo and it auto switches to Dolby Vision to boot. I did not need the higher model Panasonic because I do not use analog inputs. I have a mid to high range Onkyo receiver with a double Atmos setup, so now I feel like my set up is complete for a few years.
Bottom line if you care about top quality picture and sound. RUN to get this player!

Before purchasing this I had read a few negative reviews regarding this player and the main complaint was it would freeze when playing discs. In all of my time using this (more than 18 months), I've yet to have a problem with playback. My guess is a firmware update during that time fixed the issue.
Pro's:
- Good upscaling of non 4k Discs
- Great picture quality playback on 4k Discs
- Fairly quick loading of disks upon start up
- Easy set up
Con's
- Limited streaming channel options
- Sometimes the open\close button on the front of the unit needs to be pushed multiple times for it to work

So far this has been an exceptional player! I was having issues with my (supposedly high-end) Sony player having serious issues playing 4K UHD discs with multiple layers - the player has trouble switching from one layer to another without the picture freezing or locking up. When viewing the same discs on this Panasonic, those transition issues are gone. I did not do an in-depth comparison, but this player may edge out the Sony when it comes to upscaling and audio as well. Either way, the frustration of watching a movie to the end only to have it freeze and lock up was too much to deal with the Sony any longer. This Panasonic has been a joy!

This 4K player delivered on what it’s supposed to do checked all my boxes for image quality, I have this unit hooked up to my 85 inch Sony 4K tv and sound running through my marantz receiver, what a combination of enjoyment. First off the menu navigation is simple, load time are very quick, and upscaling from lower content sources was crisp and sharp. Panasonic did it right with this unit and for anyone there that has an older collection of dvds and still enjoy watching them and maybe collecting or purchasing newer 4K dvd movies I would highly suggest this unit for the semi audiophile out there.

I have 40 plus years in the Electronics Industry as a Buyer and Sales manager and I have always enjoyed cutting edge electronics. I have owned several different Oppo BD and UHD DVD players and always considered the Oppo best.
However, after selling my Oppo UHD-95 player (it was getting some age on it) I researched available UHD players to find what I thought might be a reasonable replacement. I bought the Panasonic because of their reputation as a high quality player and their durability. Boy am I glad I did !
Better in every way ! The picture quality blew me away ! Standard DVD were upscaled better than ever and the UHD picture was exceptional. The $ 399.00 price is easily justified for this fine Machine.
