I went into this with a healthy dose of skepticism, $500 is a lot to spend on a blu ray player after all but I have to say it's proceeded to exceed my expectations I've had 2 LG UBK90s that i had to return due to drive problems, but they also had eh image quality, inconsistent hdr10 output, poor up conversion, a cheap remote and frequent glitches and issues that made me go enough is enough I also have a quite nice Sony x800 but it does not support dolby vision, which I cared about a lot on my LG C8 OLED So that brought me around to the Panasonic, it supports all the major hdr formats including the upcoming hdr10+ meaning you'll be covered no matter what TV you have. Compared to the other players this one exhibits a level of refinement that they couldn't match. Playback and disc loading is very quick (practically instant actually) and it automatically switches format based on what disc type you put in. But the star of the show is its automatic tone mapping feature which tailors the hdr10 output to the TV you own, you select between 4 presets (projector, oled and 2 for lcds) and it does the rest. There's also a handy button on the remote that let's you tweak it at any time while watching a movie if say a scene is too dark or you are watching in a bright room. In my experience it's made a huge difference in image quality over its predecessors on hdr10 content. Dolby vision disc's look beautiful as expected. Normal blu rays get excellent up conversion without artifacts and can look shockingly sharp and detailed. It also has a very nice front panel display, a great overlay for information on the disc you're playing back and extensive very customizable menu system that let's you tweak every possible thing to your hearts content. The downsides? At this price I feel a back lit remote would have been nice, honestly the remote is a big let down and while I got used to it I find it uncomfortable to hold in the hand and a few buttons are a bit too close together for my liking. Also don't expect it to handle streaming apps. They're very slow and clunky though to be fair if you have the money for this then getting a roku or Apple TV (or even using your TVs built in apps) shouldn't be that big of a deal. If you're even considering it then I'd say get it, it's the best uhd player on the market and you won't be disappointed

Very good video quality - So far no 4k freezing or pixelation issues - Very configurable audio and video settings - Build quality is fair but plasticky and light weight for a $400 plus player - Won't play some audio and video files - My $200 Sony X800m2 plays every file type I've thrown at it - I'll have to wait and see how reliable it is and how long it will last - Other Panasonic equipment I own has proven to be a good value and very durable.

    THE 4K blu ray player.

The only player I read consistent feedback online saying that it doesn't skip when playing 4K discs, and in my experience this holds true. Don't need to hook it up to the internet, so I don't bother with any of the network connectivity features. Last thing I want is a firmware update that makes it less reliable.

Video audio quality on par with oppo 203

Compared to my oppo 203, this Panasonic feels a lot lighter, is smaller, and more plasticky. However, the video quality once tweaked for OLED tv, is on par with the oppo. The Panasonic's audio is clearer and louder especially in the rear surround channels compared to my oppo. The only complaints I have are when a disc is inserted it tends to whirl louder than the oppo before settling down. During a movie the spinning disc is not noticeable. Secondly, the remote control is rather small and buttons are not illuminated so you will fumble in the dark feeling for controls.

Picked up the Panasonic DP-UB820-K to round out my home theater setup, and it delivered exactly what I was hoping for. It plays everything I throw at it, whether it’s a 4K disc with Dolby Vision or an old Blu-ray I’ve watched a hundred times. The picture quality is crystal clear and the audio support is top-notch, especially if you're running a 7.1 setup. Menus are snappy, build quality feels solid, and the upscaling is impressive. It’s one of those rare products that quietly does everything right without needing constant tweaks or updates. If you’re serious about physical media or just want the best playback quality for your collection, this is hands down the best Blu-ray player on the market. It just works, and it works really well.

I have had a TV and 4K discs capable of Dolby Vision for years and have never been able to enjoy the benefit of it. Upon purchasing this player, not only did I gain access to DV but I noticed a marked improvement in sound and picture quality. If you are using an Xbox or PS5 to play your 4K discs, I would urge you to change that and splurge for a dedicated blu-ray player. It elevated my entire home theater.

I purchased this DVD player for my son who is a FANATIC about sound. His entertainment system are all stereo components. So, I didn’t want the movie experience to be any different. The Panasonic didn’t disappoint. The audio and video are very clear. The Dolby Atmos really enhances the listening. Setup was simple. He had it working within minutes. It’s a little pricey, but we’ll worth the experience.

I bought this to replace a Samsung 4K Blu-ray player. As expected, Dolby Vision encoded discs get a substantial visual improvement since Samsung refuses to support Dolby Vision. What I didn't expect were visual improvements on "plain" HDR discs, or general audio quality improvements. I'm only using HDMI for audio and video. If you don't need high quality analog audio output, this 4K player is the sweet spot! It's $200 more than the Samsung (unless you find it on sale), but you definitely get what you pay for (e.g. build quality). This unit seems to be selling out fast everywhere, so don't hesitate!

READ FIRST!!! - If all you have is a flat screen TV (bought within the last 5yrs) and nothing else, go buy a cheapy $99 dvd player. Why did I get this one? Last year I invested into a new receiver. My reciever has Dolby Atmos. My home is wired for 7.4.1 dolby surround. This receiver with it's 7.1 channel system, really makes dolby atoms pop out. I can hear the difference in my speakers, when compared to my previous $99 cheapy dvd player. This receiver has HDMI connections in the back and some RCA. It also has true 4k, as to "upscaling", as seen with cheaper players. I have easily noticed a difference with sound and audio when watching bluray movies. It was very easy to set up, and the entire front face drops down when you load/eject dvd/bluray discs. I feel very good about my decision to get this. Please, DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS... your home theater system can really make use of the quality and features this unit brings to the experrience.

This is my second Panasonic UB820K player. I previously bought one in 2020 open box because I couldn't find a new one in the store. I noticed the image quality wasn't up to standard ,not sure if something was broken .The picture quality was good but it wasn't mind blowing good. My old player just broke and it recently stopped sending a signal through the HDMI to my television. I was very apprehensive to get another from Panasonic at such a high price of $500. I followed my instinct and bought the UB820 again. I have a 65" Sony A90J which i use primarily to watch 4K HDR movies and sports. I believe Panasonic did a silent upgrade on this player because the picture quality is light years ahead of what I got on my other broken player. The colors produced are richer, HDR highlights pop brighter and detail is preserved. I also have a Sony X800M2 player and in comparison the UB820 is miles ahead in image quality. I watched 4k versions of Thor love and thunder, Bullet Train , Elvis, doctor Strange Multiverse and they all look incredibly sharp and detailed. This player has the latest firmware out of the box ver 1.69. I want to believe that Panasonic has done some tweaking on Dolby vision because it looks incredible. I have to recommend this player because the picture quality it produces is worth the money. I am over satisfied with my purchase.

I've been through two prior 4K players (both Sony, different models) and grew more and more frustrated with quirky random issues with Blu-Ray and 4K disc playback. I've even had disc menu navigation issues previously that firmware upgrades never fixed. I decided to say goodbye to Sony and researched these Panasonic models... and decided on this one. It has been perfect out to the box and plays my prior blu-rays perfectly. No issues. The user interface is also more interesting/interactive. The only negative is some awkwardness with the remote control. There is an annoying Netflix button placed directly above the arrow/directional buttons and if you're using the remote in a dimly lit room... you're going to hit that Netflix button and it'll open/launch in the most disruptive way. Poor design in my opinion, but I'm willing to overlook it because the device itself plays my dvd, blu-ray, and 4k discs flawlessly.

This player is well worth the money if you have the setup to take advantage of it. I upgraded from a Sony that was having non-stop issues and this player absolutely blows it out of the water. The menus are way easier to navigate, the remote is a decent size instead a miniscule thing. Picture quality is fantastic, it upscales blu-rays better than anything I have ever seen, with little to no audio delay. Very happy with it.

It has already been 2 months since we are using this BR player. To say in couple of words... "The Best". We could easily feel the upscale of video and audio quality comparing to other streaming players. We are really loving this BR player in our home-theater and especially the Atmos. For sure, we can't beat the picture quality through the 4k disks... but the real difference is when you stream a video through streaming devices. Woooow !! What a difference.

Pros: Very easy to use. The upscaling is very nice and smooth. Dolby vision and dolby atmos is stellar on my LG Oled and Nakamichi System. Cons: The remote is a bit clunky. I keep accidently hitting the wrong buttons about half the time. There is some noticeable lag when switching apps or menus. Also, a 3 second or so delay for audio to come on after playing a movie or after pausing a movie. At full price, it's a bit pricey, but still worth it. Much better when they ran a deal on these.
