I purchased this tv for my son as a college graduation gift. The salesman said it was the best tv on the market. And it has been great! I ask my son all the time and he continues to be pleased.

I have been wanting a 3d Panasonic plasma for a couple years. My sister has the GT25. I finally broke down and went to buy my new TV for my new house. I was looking at the GT50. Both the GT and VT were on sale. The VT won me out with the extra controls to tweek it the way I wanted and can calibrate it myself. I got it home and mounted it on the wall and I must say it is a work of art up there. The picture is amazing. This is my 3rd Panasonic plasma and they are not letting me down. This is the best TV I have ever owned. The clarity is phenomenal. To be honest I have never been that big on 3D movies, I have always preferred the 3D for video games. But this TV may change that. The 3D is the best I have seen. 3D tv stations (directTV) have great effects. The speakers are the best of all my Panasonics although I still have it hooked up to my Bose system. The touchpad remote is cute but I am still getting used to it. I must also say it is the best looking of my TV's as well. My only gripe is no glasses with the set and I had to wait a week for Best Buy to get my set in. My sister got 2 glasses and Avatar with her Panasonic GT25. I kept thinking I would get buyers remorse and that I should have gone with the GT50 but no I am extremely happy with this purchase. I do not know what everyone talks about on hearing the fan, mine is silent.

Great Buy, Best Picture on The Market.

I am very happy with my purchase. I originally was going to buy the 55GT50 until I went and compared it side by side at the store to the 55VT50. The picture quality on both were amazing but the VT50 was definitely a little better. I watched The Book of Eli and Avatar on both and the VT50 had deeper blacks and a little more vibrant color. Also it was a tad better in lit room conditions. (For plasma-phobes, because I was one, either of these plasma TVs are fine for bright rooms, I am watching football in a room that gets full sun on the standard low brightness setting during the break in period and it is fine. If you put it on bright room you barley notice a difference because these sets get plenty bright) Now I wouldn't pay 600$ more for the VT50 (sale prices of 1400 vs 2000) but I lucked out and found it at Best Buy for 1700 during an unadvertised sale 1/1/13. Not cheap but well worth the price for the best picture on the market along with the sharp elite that just costs an obscene amount for the average person. The THX Bright Room and Cinema settings are good for people who don't want to tinker with custom options. Once I get a few more hours on it I will see if I can get a better picture by myself. The sound is decent for a flat screen and I personally like the surround setting but don't expect sound system quality, you are buying this TV for the picture. I have not seen any artifacts, blooming or greenish hue I noticed in last years Panasonic Models. Smooth picture with cable, netflix, Blue Ray and XBOX. I haven't had any problem with burn in but am being very careful right now. Screen uniformity is perfect. The TV looks stunning mounted on the wall which is something Panasonic has lacked behind in the past. As for 3D.... I don't really care about that and It wasn't even a consideration for me but for the price you should at least get a pair of glasses. The stand is ugly and doesn't swivel but this is going to be wall mounted 90% of the time. It is still an oversight on there part. The remote is good but I have a universal and won't be using it. The second remote to me is pointless. All in all if you want the best picture for less than 2 grand this is it.

    Wow! Wow! Wow!

all i can really say is, "wow!" i bought this based on ratings on tech sites w/o ever seeing it in person. i had very high expectations based on the 9.5 and 10/10 ratings. Those expectations were BLOWN AWAY! The picture is truly amazing. i was watching a scene that had a table lamp in the background. i felt as if i stared at the sun too long. that' just shows how the black levels and colors pop. Even watching the weather on the local news was amazing. Sports look fantastic-- the clarity during motion is insane on this unit. I haven't even watched a streaming movie or 3D/Blue Ray yet--just Directv programming. Can't wait to see what a higher-quality source will produce. i can't really compare other TVs as I've only compared LEDs on the walls at Best Buy. but, from reviews of "experts," this is the TV to get . I can't imagine that there is a better TV out there in this size and price range. I've noticed larger TVs just make bad signals look worse. Not here. Even youtube videos look better on this unit than HDTV on my 3 year old LCD. DO NOT HESITATE TO BUY THIS TV. newer models are out, so availability might be limited soon. Higher- priced LEDs whose fancy features probably don't even work half the time and certainly aren't worth the extra $ compared to this unit. It has enough bells and whistles in the menu/online content to scratch that itch. There is even an Iphone App that you can use to control virtually everything in the menu and you can use your phone keypad instead of the awful hunt and peck method using the arrows on the remote. Out of the box, it is VERY dim, so play around with settings to match your conditions. THX cinema does a nice job and then customize it from there. I paired it with a panny soundbar. vierra link allows you to turn the tv/soundbar/directv box on or off and control volume from the directv remote. just make sure you go to the vierra connect option in the TV menu and tell it you have a "theater " for speakers. that took me a few minutes to figure out. other than that, setup was a breeze. (All newer TVs do this, but more FYI on the soundbar setup) I haven't played too much with the vierra connect apps, but i can say that the youtube app is great. i can play videos for my son right on the TV from my Youtube Playlists-- instead of heading to the computer room or worrying about him destroying my tablet! And they look GREAT as i mentioned above. they also load (arguably faster than on my PC)... Hoping to try Netflix/Vudu soon. Again, do not hesitate to buy this TV. My Samsung is a little over 3 years old and is still a great unit. i was hesitant to replace it, thinking how much better could a new TV.? well, it's like night and day. I was also anti-plasma . glad the expert reviews changed my mind. the only 2 things to consider when buying this tv are: 1-- the weight if you are putting it on a stand. i think it's 80+lbs with the stand. and 2--do you have enough wall for the 65" version!

Hands down the best television I've ever owned. Couldn't be happier with the brightness of this Plasma. The refresh rate with the great sound create a perfect environment for gaming or movie sessions. I have this set hooked up to a 5.0 surround system because the stock sound isn't up to my liking, though it isn't bad. The 3D capabilities on this unit are also impressive, albiet the glasses are sold separately and quite expensive. If you bought this model in the first place, I have to imagine money is no object between you and a superb viewing experience. Buy this TV with confidence. You won't be disappointed.

This plasma is awesome! At first I was very sceptical about buying a plasma, because of all the horror stories in the past years. Older plasma were very susceptible to screen burn-in. I learned that on todays plasma sets it is nearly impossible to get burn-in. Unless you leave a static image on the screen for atleast 24 hours. (eg. Tv channel logo or video game life meter) There is on the other hand Image retention. Image retention is when there is a static image on the screen that remains slightly ghosted on the screen when you switch to another channel. But that ghosted image fades after a while. You really can only see it if the screen goes totally white and your standing a foot or two from the screen. This tv has built in features to defeate temporary image retention. Temporary meaning if you watch a game (baseballl etc...) with the score constantly displayed on the screen for hours it can leave a temporary image on the screen. (Only noticable on a white screen with your eyes a foot or two from the screen) It is unnoticable watching normal tv. But as soon as you watch a equal time of regular tv that ghosted image is permanently erased! By the way all plasma's have temporary IR! This tv is hands down the best picture quality I have seen! There are some led tv's that put up a good fight and look great also. But this plasma still beats them all! This tv was not my first new hd tv I purchased. The first tv I purchased on 06/01/12 was an lg 55ls4600 for $999 on sale. This tv had a decent picture but suffered from edge light flashlighting from the corners. During dark sceens this was very annoying. I then returned and exchanged that tv for a samsung un55es6500 $1699. The picture on the samsung was very good but suffered from the annoying edge bleeding and soap opera effect that all led tv's have. I was unhappy with this set so I returned it on 06/27/12. After talking to one of the sales guy's he told me "Why don't you try a plasma, such as this vt50" He also said, "I can sell you a more expensive led but the picture quality is unmatched to this plasma" So I took a leap and purchased this set on 07/04/12 $1999. I am finally happy and have no regrets with this purchase. Sports look amazing. Movies are great and the 3D is outstanding! Unmattched hd picture on anything you watch. The feared screen glare is minimal in bright rooms. The picture is definitely bright enough in bright rooms. This is the best $2000 I ever spent. Buy this plasma and never look back!!!

Wow what a great set. I have had HDTVs since 1999 and never have I had such a high performance TV. 1080P stuff looks great. The smart apps are plentiful and easy to use. Not really sure I plan to use the touch remote as I have a Harmony 1100 universal but it is a very unique remote. I haven't tried the 3D yet since glasses are not included but I plan to and I hear it is amazing

The picture quality of this TV is amazing. Deep black level even in a bright room, minimal motion blur and color reproduction is perfect. The sound quality is not bad for such a slim TV but who uses built in speakers anymore. The only complaints I have is that the TV does not come with 3D glasses for this price tag. I don't really care about 3D but would have been nice to include a pair of glasses.

    Best TV for 2012

This is my 7th tv this year due to not being pleased or feeling like I paid too much money for less technology. I owned a GT50 for a few weeks while waiting on the VT50 to arrive at the store per an employee's advice about their return policy. It was an amazing tv as well. Panasonic definitely has it going on with picture quality and has hands down the best 3D. I owned a Samsung ES8000 just before the GT50 and it was a really nice tv but a tier 1 tv should not be using edge lit technology, as it was very apparent when watching darker movies, especially at night. Not to mention all the stuff that will hardly ever be used with a tv like that. More novelty than anything. When you decide you don't want anything other than the absolute best PICTURE and 3D from a tv and not a bunch of other gimmicks put on their to impress your friends with things not related to tv's, Panasonic is definitely your friend, especially with the VT50 series.
