    Not Your Disney Pandas

At first glance, you might fool yourself into thinking this is a Disney nature doc about cute little pandas cavorting in the Chinese wilderness. After all, Kristen Bell (Princess Anna from "Frozen") does the narration! But this IMAX production is less sentimental in its depiction of these cuddly creatures than what you might find in the Mouse House's "Born in China," which hit the multiplexes the year before. The production is, as with most things IMAX, breathtakingly beautiful to look at, with photography that puts the viewer right in the scene. If you are a fan of nature documentaries like the BBC "Planet Earth" series, you won't be disappointed by this terrific addition to the genre.

This is where 4K/UHD images of nature can really shine! Definition is clear and sharp with excellent black levels providing ample texture and detail. The Dolby Atmos audio mix is active across all channels, providing a realistic depiction of the sounds one would hear in nature, while narration is anchored solidly to the front, center channel. This is an excellent way to help educate children and raise ecological awareness.

This was so awesome to watch in 4K. If you weren’t getting caught up in the adventures of the young panda then you were getting caught up in the overall environment that was filmed. Thank goodness for the people who do everything for these bears. Great family film, but be wary that there are some sad moments as well as fun moments.

We love most all nature shows and this one was touching. This is a wonderful documentary on the efforts to save the giant pandas in China. You will follow a small group of scientist as they try and introduce a captive born giant panda back into the wild. Bring your tissues with you! It seems short and would love to know more about how it all is working out.

If you have a good 4K TV, I think this movie is a good reference UHD disk. I used my Sony 800m2 UHD player along with my Sony 4K TV and the scenery was pretty amazing. Story was cute, but the length of the movie was short. Paid for it on sale so not disappointed overall.

Love the movie. 4k was so bright. Grandchildren want to watch it over and over. They get to enjoy the movie without even realizing how much they are learning. Great purchase.

The film follows the journey of a specific panda and her plights in captivity and in her future. It's great and really eye opening. Only con is it's kind of short.

Beautiful color in 4K UHD showing panda activities in China. Nice narrative of the research being done to promote panda breeding. Only drawback of the video is the relatively extended coverage of black bear training footage instead of panda.

Why are they so far away from me? This is a cool look into the life and journey of a panda and the weirdos that dedicate themselves to getting a domesticated panda out into the wild where it belongs. I love pandas. They're so bad.

The stortyline and narration are great as well as most of the filming. However, it is obvious that the 4K suffers in some areas of the filming but really sharp in other areas. Would I recommend this to a n animal loving friend? Yes!
