    Good Portable Hand Held Blender

It's small, pretty quiet, and has speed touch. It's easy to clean and has single button release for quick accessory change. The hand blender only comes with a blender bar with integrated blade unit and blade guard. You can purchase additional accessories like, a whisk,XL chopper blade, tool holder for chop and drop blade. The trigger switch is a nice touch especially with the grip at the top of the blender, it makes for easy speed changing. The harder you push inward the faster it goes, you can really take advantage of the 300 watts this little blender has. I like that you remove the blender bar for easy cleaning. Phillips recommends to not leave the blender bar in the sink to soak but to rinse and leave to dry with the blades facing down, I'm guessing due to rust? This blender also comes with a beaker which can measure up to 3 cups or 24 oz, it has more space for more but these are the only measurements displayed in the beaker. So far, i've made salsa, pancake mix, and milkshakes. It was really simple, no mess due to the blade guard which prevents a free spill procedure. The blades are made of titanium and very sharp, it would be nice if this blender had some kind of child proof on switch much like a lighter has because it's pretty easy to turn on. This blender also comes with a handy recipe book with difference mixing recipes ranging from hummus all the way to cream puff. I'll be using some of these recipes soon as they seem pretty simple to make. This blender is stainless steal and looks modern then your plastic handheld blenders you see at the store. If they lowered the price a little i would give it 5 stars but because its almost a $100 dollars i will take a star away, if it came with more accessories then i can see why it's almost $100. I guess that's the only thing i can say bad about this product. It's small enough to store in a cabinet drawer if you detach the blade and strong enough to handle some tough blender jobs. I like it so far.

    Woosh! Blended, Liquefied, Creamed, Emulsified

After using this versatile kitchen appliance for over to a week now, am wondering why I never thought of having one before? If it's a liquid, or needs to be turned into a liquid – this baby is now my choice. It is much more convenient to use then a hand mixer, which is bulky and clumsy to use, and does not liquefy like this Phillips Pro Mix Immersion Hand Blender. After a simple hand wash, the very first thing I experimented with was eggs for an omelet. I love all kinds of omelets. I cracked four eggs into the provided one liter beaker and lowered the blender tool into the bottom. I pressed the variable speed button control, 'ON', to medium by pressing only half-way and frothed a rich mixture of foaming egg whites, which completely combined into the yolks in less then a minute. Poured into my pre-heated omelet pan, sprinkled on grated cheddar cheese, and diced ham. In about four minutes (two on each side of the omelet pan) I had an inch and a half high fluffy, and tasty breakfast treat. Even enough delicious, fluffy omelet left over for Grandma too. YUM, YUM! After that experience I was 'hooked'. Poured through the enclosed recipe booklet and found 'Smoothie' recipe treats for my Grand Kids. Couldn't wait 'till they came over to visit. I had ice cream and all the fruit ingredients ready for Blueberry, Strawberry, and Peach flavored Smoothies. Using the Phillips ProMix Immersion Blender I made custom Smoothies and Ice Cream Sodas pretty quick, even for a Grandpa. My four Grand Kids loved the Smoothies and Sodas, and, wanted more. I was wondering why Grandma didn't ask for one, but one of the kids spilled the 'beans' on Grandma. She was sampling each one I custom-made for the kids to make sure Grandpa was doing it 'right'. Grandma forewarned me ahead of the kids visit that I would have to clean up the 'mess'. But, little did she know how easy it was to clean the Phillips ProMix Blender. I ran hot water from the kitchen sink faucet over the blender bar, then, dipped the blade enclosure into soapy hot water, and rinsed. I stood the blender bar unit up to let air-dry. My kind of clean-up. WooHoo! Have a dishwasher for the Smoothie, Soda glasses and included Phillips beaker. This Phillips Immersion Blender is so much easier to use, clean, and store then a hand/mixer blender. Four days ago I used the Phillips ProMix Blender to liquefy whole canned tomatoes in Grandma's pasta sauce. It normally takes six to eight hours of cooking for that to happen in the pot by itself. Needless to say I am now in charge of omelet making, not to mention Smoothies, Sodas, and Desserts, and, helping Grandma with her special pasta sauce. Some of the Key Features of the Phillips ProMix Hand Blender: * Speed Touch technology, utilizing finger depression of variable speed button. * Powerful 300 watt motor – ample drive to power other available attachments. * 1L ProMix Beaker for uniform blending and combining of various ingredients. * Handle grip is ergonomically designed. * The blender blades are Titanium coated, which is 6 times harder than steel. * Simple single button release for quick, easy release of all available accessories. * Quick, easy, and simple clean-up. * Electrical cord is a generous sixty-two inches long. * Provided beaker holds a generous twenty-four ounces. * Accepts other available accessories. What's Included: * Phillips ProMix Blender with Speed Touch. * Triangular shaped, twenty-four ounce beaker. * Recipe Booklet * User Manual * One Year Limited Warranty Cons: * A bit heavy at first, but when you stand it up and immerse it in liquid it is easy to operate. * Cannot process frozen fruit or ice cubes. * Not for use on hard nuts or fruit with pits or hard centers. * Be careful in Teflon and Stainless Steel pans and pots - the Aluminum Blade Housing could scratch those surfaces. What I really like about this unit it is that it is so handy to use almost every day. No need to to put it on a shelf next to the food processor or hand mixer, which are seldom used. I keep it on the kitchen counter, where I can get to it conveniently. I am using it to mash sweet potatoes, pancake mixes for the Grand Kids, desserts, blend sauces, gravies, salad dressings, and dips for Grandma and me. This a 'must-have' kitchen appliance. I love it, and I think you will too. I give this is baby five stars and highly recommend it. If you have never used an immersion blender before, like me – you will be 'converted' by the multitude of its practical uses in your kitchen. It stays on my counter top – even Grandma says it is OK. This Phillips ProMIx Hand Blender makes the 'perfect' gift for a wedding, birthday, anniversary, to any family member or friend, who appreciates the mechanics of quality food preparation, which turns into fantastic taste treats.

We just got the Phillips ProMix and have already used it a couple times. I used it to whip up a breakfast casserole. It blended the ingredients very quickly and made the eggs fluffy. The casserole baked evenly and everyone thought it was the best one yet. I have been making the casserole for years but have always just used a hand whisk for the eggs and milk. I also made some banana bread. I used the mixer to mix all the wet ingredients including the bananas. The bread came out fabulous and also cooked more evenly than previously without the blender. This blender has some great features. The speed controls are very nice and you just press harder for each speed. There are no separate speed buttons which I like. The mixer detaches with a press of the button making for very easy clean-up. It also came with a cookbook and accessory options. The accessories look really good and I will probably be getting them soon. I’m looking forward to making the Pumpkin and Chorizo Soup with Fall upon us. This blender will be used in our household for many years to come.

My first impression was the construction and materials used to make the blender. Polished mixer head and special coated blades, gripper nubs in-bedded in the motor handle all speak quality. The motor speed control allowed me to whip up a sauce in the pan without spattering all over the place. Great for making chocolate milk (vanilla too), hot or cold, milkshakes, Italian ice, etc. The unit that comes with attachments seems a greater bargain now that I know the mixer works well.

The first thing you notice unboxing this is the solid feel & heft of it. And the Swedish design appearance allows it to sit out on your counter looking much better than your traditional mixer/handheld. The power is more than adequate. To me, the standout feature on this is the trigger button. Squeeze harder for more power. My initial thought was that it would be difficult to maintain a steady speed, but the trigger has a nice tactile feel to it. Other handhelds opt for a turbo button, which i find is likely to cause a splash on engagement. With the Avance, you can gradually increase the speed to where you want it, and not get your smoothie or whipped cream all over the counter. I would not recommend giving this to the kids. The titanium coated blade is sharp. When your mashed potatoes get jammed up in the well, as will happen with any blender, you don't want to be sticking your fingers in there. This is not a hand mixer that you can lick the whipped cream off the blades! There are cautionary warnings about the blades, not just for sharpness. Generally speaking, sharp also = brittle. The instructions state not to use with ice, frozen meat, or any other hard, dense material. What i didn't like is that it isn't dishwasher safe. As with all my other food preparation product, i like the confidence that comes from the high heat & thoroughness of a dishwasher cycle. One final reason i didn't give this 5 stars is price - competitors in this price range package included extras - be it an whisk attachment, mini blender, or even containers. But i do love that speed control!

I had an old Philips that I was only using to mix protein shakes and half the time there were still clumps left. Using this new blender, it not only mixes powder but I can put in peanut butter, chocolate chips, it purees anything that I put in the mix, smooth as silk!

    Powerful Multi-tool for your kitchen!

The Philips - Avance Collection ProMix Hand Blender - Black is a powerful multi-tool for your kitchen that has the ability to replace many hand appliances from your kitchen drawers. With 300w of power and titanium coated blades, this hand blender can mix, crush, blend, beat, and emulsify anything you put in front of it. The unique design is a major win as it eliminates the arbitrary preset speed settings and allows the user to determine the needed speed and power by the mere pressure of their index finger. PROS - Solid design - Powerful for any job - Stainless design makes clean up a breeze - Titanium coated blades add strength for any job - One button push allow removal of attachments - Easy to handle without any control issues like a mixer - Perfectly placed power button with full-range speed/power option based on the user's choice without sacrificing control over the blender! - Additional attachments available (Whisk, Mixer, Chopper, etc) CONS - While clean up is quick and easy, food/sauce can get trapped under the blades at times. Can be a little tricky to rinse this area without splashing water and blades are too sharp to reach in to assist. A new must-have kitchen hand appliance!

So tried this bad boy out with a smoothie, some chopped veggies for a quick salsa and a few sauces. First I love how light weight this bad boy is. It makes working a smoothie with frozen fruit and crushed ice a breeze. The variable speed trigger is great, no need to pause to change the speed or use another hand to change the speed like on other devices. Clean up is a breeze, just be sure to get under the blade well. It whipped into sauces with zero effort. And blitzed the salsa like no tomorrow. So much better than getting the cuisinart out and all the clean up it requires. Great addition to the kitchen. Hope it will last forever.

    Useful Blender, Expensive Attachments

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Pro - Lots of different speeds - Great for soft foods like making applesauce and soups - Relatively quiet Con - Expensive - Stickier foods get caught in the blade guard - Somewhat short stem - No storage case or container - Electrical cord awkwardly placed - Expensive attachments required for ice and harder foods Overall Immersion hand blenders aren't exactly a requirement in all kitchens, but every now and then they're the perfect, or only, tool for the job. Unfortunately for the ProMix, it's priced moderately higher than competing units. At just under $100, you get just the blender itself with no additional attachments. Competing models generally add at least a whisk and chopper attachment for that price ( the Philips model with those attachments runs about $150 ). The grip is quite comfortable and the trigger up top controls the speed ( it has many subtle but noticeable steps as you depress it ). The electrical cord sometimes gets in the way as it comes off the back and runs over your hand. I wonder if it would have been better to have the cable in front, as you'll mostly be using the blender on the counter and the outlets will be in front of you, not behind or below. The ProMix is also much quieter than a normal stand blender or hand mixer. You can use it for an early morning shake or smoothie without waking the kids. The mixer length is a little shorter than offered elsewhere, though. While it's sufficient for most uses, those wanting to blend a tall stock pot of soup might find it too short. The blender itself performs quite well. It's great for softer foods like applesauce and soups and results in a much finer texture than you could get in a normal stand blender ( and you don't have to scrape out a blender jar afterward either! ). Blending sticky or thicker foods does tend to get caught under the blade guard and needs to be cleaned out. As the blade is extremely sharp, this can be a dangerous and painful proposition. The manual warns about getting water down the inside of the shaft, so it's not dishwasher safe either. Finally, the standard blade attachment is not meant for ice, meats, frozen foods, or raw vegetables ( though most cooked veggies are fine ). And that brings us back to the lack of attachments, as the blender in its full form is perfectly capable of handling those foods. Philips offers attachments for a whisk, regular hand mixer beaters, heavy duty blending blades for potatoes, and a dicer/chopper. The included recipe book even mentions using those attachments to make things like hummus and salsa. For $90, can't they even throw in a whisk attachment so people can whip cream or blend their daily protein shakes? Or perhaps an adapter to let them use their existing hand mixer beaters? Along with no attachments is a lack of any storage case for the blender. In the end, spending more money on the ProMix gets you finer and easier speed control but less versatility. If it was $20 cheaper it might be a nice purchase with how study it's built, but with how often you can find sales and deals at a variety of retailers, spending $100 on a hand blender without a full kit isn't a great deal.

Best Lightweight Hand Blender / Variable Speed

The Philips ProMix Hand / Stick Blender is almost perfect. It's lightweight, can be easily operated with one hand and performance is great. In the box you have the motor, the blend attachment, a plastic beaker tall container for blending in, the manual and a recipe book. A major selling point of this blender is the variable speed trigger. The trigger, which is in the handle, and is controlled using your thumb, means you can be as fast or as slow as you need. No switches or dials - which makes fine adjustment of speed easy. First use, I made Basil Pesto (Basil, Garlic, Pine Nuts, Olive Oil, Parmesan) and the ProMix had no problem making a smooth creamy pesto. The garlic and pine nuts were mashed effortlessly and there was no clogging of the blend mechanism. I was impressed. The blend unit is dishwasher safe, so clean up was a breeze My only (small) comment is that it there is an advanced model of this that comes with a whisk attachment. You can buy it and other attachments separately (not in stock currently), but I would recommend buying the Pro unit for all the extras. It's a great blender but I am so impressed that I want to use it for everything else it is capable of.

It’s a nice alternative to hauling out my big mixer or food processor and infinitely easier to clean. Would definitely recommend. It was a tad heavier than I expected but I hope that translates into sturdy long time use. I didn’t think it was loud to operate and its design makes it easy to hold and regulate the speed of the blades when mixing. Also its easy to store standing up on the counter with a very small footprint and its design makes it good looking there too. The blade attachment is all metal and its blades are very sharp. It is easily attached/detached. A quick rinse after each use and you are ready to go again. Its nice to use for smoothies and mashed potatoes and I am sure I will be finding many more uses for it as time goes on. It comes with a 24 oz clear beaker that fits it perfectly as well as a book with a few recipes. There are optional accessories you can purchase such as potato masher, single whisk, double wisk and a chopper (for onions and the like). They look like they would definitely add more versatility and I probably will be purchasing them soon.

    EASY clean! Perfect whipped cream

My wife makes homemade whipped cream for just about every dessert and sometimes for coffee and cocoa. This usually entails a LOT of whisking---arm-wrenching whisking, or dragging out the hand mixer. This little gadget is so much easier, and despite my doubts, super easy to clean. With the mixer snapped in, it's the same size as an electric corkscrew and just as simple to use. The only thing that could make it better would be to make it cordless, but even with the cord, it slips into a drawer for storage. It is light and has a good feel in the hand. It comes with a container you can use to mix in, and the instructions are easy to follow. Cleaning consists of rinsing off the "blade" and wiping down the handle. There are no crevices or hard to reach areas. If you can wash a spoon, you got this. The speed is controlled at the handle, and is decided by how much pressure you put on the button--lighter is slower, harder is high speed. This is a no brainer addition to the gadget drawer that we actually use bc it's easy to clean.

Excellent Stick Blender Depending on Your Use

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After using this hand blender on smoothies and soups, I can heartily recommend it to anyone. PROs • Variable speed is easy to adjust by applying pressure on the finger trigger at the top of the blender • Blade shaft is simple to attach and detach from the motor • 300 Watts motor is powerful enough to blend smoothly CONs • Due to the dome design and low blade position, does not work well in shallow containers (or shallow volume of food). • Not meant for all food types, like ice, bread, and meat. Pay attention to the warnings in the manual. OTHER The dome design and low blade position minimizes aeration. This is either a plus or minus depending on what you’re blending. The design creates a very smooth blend without introducing too much air. For smoothies and soups, that's a plus. But if you actually want some aeration, say for pancake batter, the pancakes may be denser than you want.

Solidly built but lightweight. I had previously been using another brand of hand blender which was a little heavier. This one is very easy to use. The best feature is the trigger which also controls the speed. The included cup has a small spout which I liked since it made pouring my smoothies easier. Overall I have been very happy, using it daily. This has pleanty of power to make salsas quickly. Taking the mixing part off to clean is also simple. Just push a button and pull it right off. This is a great alternative to a stand up mixer for anyone who doesn't have a lot of countertop space.

A Hand Blender to best Braun or Cuisinart?

    |
    Tech Insider Network Member
    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I’ve owned a couple different Cuisinart hand blenders, so the opportunity to try Philips new ProMix Avance hand blender could not be denied. Initially, I thought the Philips was easily going to best by Cuisinart, but you might be surprised. I also decided to borrow a Braun hand mixer from a friend, for additional comparisons (being that I’m more a “techie”, and not much up-to-date on kitchen “tech”, I needed a larger assortment to compare against). While my Cuisinart has a simple ‘On/Off’ switch, plus a ‘Low/High’ switch, which I’ve never had any complaints with, and the Braun has a dial & “turbo” button combo, the Philips has a single “analog trigger”. By that, I mean that it has a trigger that functions similar to those found on video game console gamepads – the more you squeeze it, the faster the hand mixer spins. In terms of control, the Philips is the clear winner. Next comes the attachments…to make this simple, my Cuisinart doesn’t have any (sad face), as it’s a one-piece design. That being said, the Philips & Braun are more equal to each other, as both have attachments…although the Philips has additional available attachments. Again, the Philips wins (even if by only a smidgen)…although, it does need to be said that Cuisinart does have another (more expensive) version that utilizes attachments, but it’s not as well made (plus a lot cheaper, in price & quality). Now, power is where it’s at, right? Like the Cuisinart, the Philips has a 300 watt motor (the Braun is 400 watts), but the Philips (at least in my short testing) appeared to operate more consistently. Additionally, the Philips was slightly quieter than the Cuisinart, and considerably quieter than the Braun. The winner, once again – Philips. There are a few problems, most of which aren’t even worth mentioning. The only real “negative” I could come up with was that it can be difficult cleaning behind the blades. For a “negative”, that’s not a huge one. Final thoughts: If you’re in the market for a new hand mixer, while there are several good-to-excellent choices out there, if you narrow your choices down to a “short list”, make certain the Philips ProMix is on that list. I can’t say whether, or not, it will be your ‘best choice’, but it is one of the few I’d recommend. Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or somewhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

I have only used this once so far to make hummus using the included recipe. The hummus came out great, nice and smooth. It blends very well, as good as some full size blenders and the variable speed trigger is easy and intuitive to use. The deeper you press, the faster the speed. The blender head is very easy to install and remove, very little pressure is needed to install the head onto the handle, but it still stays secure when in use. A simple press of the release button releases the head for cleaning. The fact that the blender head releases from the handle, also makes cleaning very easy. This is not dishwasher safe, but it cleans easily this soap and water. The availability of attachments also gives this unit the potential to replace a number of other small appliances in your kitchen as well, such as the hand mixer or chopper. 1 star is subtracted because if you are blending something that is not very liquid, like hummus or a paste of some kind, quite a bit of it will get trapped behind the blade in large cavity at the head of the blender. Many hand blenders have this same issue. A plastic knife easily cleans out all this material so it is not too big a deal, just an extra step. I say plastic knife instead of your finger because the blades are very sharp! Overall, a great hand blender, a big upgrade in power and ease of use and cleaning from our old one.

    Handy Kitchen Tool

Years ago, I had a different version of basically the same type of hand blender. It was mostly made of hard plastic and didn’t boast nearly the power of this Philips Avance Collection ProMix Hand Blender. Upon trying it out, I found using this to be an effortless (and fun) way to make smooth and creamy mashed potatoes. Blending up delicious smoothies was super quick and easy too, and I’m looking forward to using this handy kitchen tool to create a whole host of other dishes, like those seen in the included recipe booklet. First things first, though. It’s a good idea to review the user manual, paying particular attention to the cautionary safeguards. And watch out! Those titanium coated blades are not only 6x harder than stainless steel, they are sharp! For added safety, the ergonomically designed soft touch handgrip ensures a secure grip when maneuvering this hand blender. It’s very important to remember to clean/rinse off the blender bar after every use, to ensure food doesn’t get ‘caked on’ and that the hand blender is ready for it’s next use. Philips ProMix Speed Touch Technology with Turbo Boost allows you to control the level of power of this hand blender’s 300W motor, maximizing performance for faster more consistent blending. The harder you press the Trigger Switch, the higher the processing speed becomes. Another feature is the blender bar’s unique triangular blade guard with special wave shape, which provides optimal food flow. A 1L Beaker comes with this hand blender, and there are several optional accessories available, including: a whisk, double mixer blades, XL chopper with multi-chopper accessory, and potato masher. Overall, this Philips Avance Collection ProMix Hand Blender is a quality tool that will look sleek and modern in any kitchen. I’d definitely recommend.

To start, this is a niche device. Not everyone needs a hand blender, and if so, this appliance will do nothing for you. But, for the people trying to make their own baby food or soup or etc etc, this will be a game changer. My wife was using a food processor which was significantly more expensive in order to prepare mush for our little one. The biggest drawback with the full-size food processor was the cleanup after even making a small batch. Enter the Phillips Promix. It seems almost stupidly simple - one slider bar to indicate the strength of the blend, and you press buttons to either increase or decrease the strength. It comes with a bin that you blend in, and the bin perfectly contains the food so there’s absolutely no spill. Rinse out the bin easily, and the hand mixer comes apart for easy rinsing as well. TL;DR: for those who need a hand mixer, this is a perfect value for the price and it gets the job done exceptionally well. Extremely well-thought out design.

I really like this hand blender. Upon taking it out of the box it has a good feel in the hand - quite substantial but not too heavy. Easy to operate the variable speed control being the trigger to operate is really easy to use and adjust the speed on the fly. It is very quiet but powerful. I had homemade mayonnaise within minutes of opening the box.

The Phillips Avance ProMix hand blender is my first hand blender so I don't have a lot to compare it to directly. What I can say is that it has a LOT of power. You feel like you could blend anything once you have it going. It has an analog variable speed (non-stepped) trigger and the blades have a shroud to prevent splash. The blades themselves are titanium coated and should be very durable long term (even with frozen foods and ice). The included bowl is ideal for small jobs and in my case I made a strawberry smoothie from frozen strawberries and it tore through them with ease. The bowl and blade/shroud are all dishwasher safe too if you don't want to hand wash. The unit is also compatible with other ProMix accessories such as the potato masher, chopper, whisk, etc. attachments. Overall build quality is excellent and doesn't feel like Philips skimped on anything. Only thing I would like to see in a future variation is a possible cordless model. That's not a knock against this one though, just something that would be nice to see as the cord can takes some getting used to.
