This is my second set of Philips Hue bulbs. I only bought the kit to upgrade my Hue Bridge for connection with other smart-home devices (which I have not tested). Works well, I don't think these lights are any different from the first generation in terms of colors, but the brightness is noticeably better. I'll probably try some Lifx bulbs next, but so far Hue has never had a problem and my first gen bulbs are four years old.

It's almost magical to tell your smart assistant to turn the lights on but. It's also very expensive.

I love these! Great investment. There is a home and away feature that works with the app to automatically turn your lights off and on for you when you leave and return home.

These bulbs are amazing! They can recreate any color in the spectrum, which apparently is much better than the competition and previous gens. Only four stars because of the high price.

Having the ability to make my look occupied when I am away ads another layer of security, also I can schedule light's to co.e on when family arrives is a major plus.

I've been watching the Philips Hue and smart home type products for a long time. At first I thought they were a bit gimmicky. After waiting for a couple generations I believe they are great. Setup is quick and easy, integration with Homekit/Siri works awesome. Smart light bulbs are one of those things that at first you think you don't need them, but once you have them you wouldn't want it any other way.

The price of the Philips Hue bulbs was holding me back for quite some time, but I finally bit the bullet and bought this starter set. Once I got a taste of what they can do, I went back and bought more bulbs! The initial setup and adding more bulbs is super simple. Just 4 steps (the 1st of which is screw the bulbs into the light fixture. Duh!) The only thing that you need to be aware of is the Hue Hub needs to be close enough to your wifi router that you can connect it with an Ethernet cable (which is provided, or you can use a longer one if you like). That's not a big deal though, because the Hub can be anywhere in your house; it doesn't need to be in the same room as the lights it's controlling, as long as it can communicate with them via wifi. The "plain" white light is great for task lighting, but what I really like is the ability to change colors and brightness according to your mood or time of day. I have 2 lights right above our TV and one behind where we sit. I have them programmed so the one behind us is both a lighter color and brighter, and the 2 over the TV are darker and dim so glare and eye strain is reduced. I like the standard "scenes" that come with the Philips app, too. Some are very calming and others are energizing. I connected the Hue bridge (what controls the lights) to my Amazon Echo Dot, and now I can control the lights by using voice commands like "Alexa, turn on the fireplace lights" and "Alexa, dim all lights 30 percent." That was also very easy to set up.

I like the Hue system and it does everything I want it to... The biggest drawback I see is that it's not very bright. The Lifex bulb is about twice as bright. The Hue system would be 5 stars if it were brighter.

When I first learned of these lights I thought that I had to have them! Then when I started looking at them closely I thought that they were pretty expensive, and that I could do without. I kept looking at them though, and I am extremely happy that I did make the purchase! In fact, I also purchased 9 additional bulbs, as well as a couple of the "Go" units. Set up is very simple, and with a little know how you can set these up to enhance movie viewing experience. There are a number of third party apps approved by phillips to help you along the way. The theater lighting function is nice to give a real movie going experience. I found that the option to have the lights mimic what is shown on the big screen to truly add a new dimension and viewing experience. There is an app for that! Unfortunately the apps require you to point a phone camera or tablet at the screen to accomplish this. That doesn't fit with what I wanted. So, after some searching I found that this function can be incorporated for a nominal cost. (this requires a little advanced knowledge to pull off). The "Go" units are rechargeable or constant plug in. I opted for these so that I can use them out on the deck for light, and use the candle function in them. Overall I couldn't be happier with this purchase! It is well worth the price to get started. Then you can see if you would like to incorporate more into your home, and add on as you go.
