Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the Hue Tap Switch, particularly its ease of use and convenient access compared to the app. Users appreciate the ability to configure buttons for favorite scenes and the product's versatility. A notable advantage is its battery-free operation, relying on kinetic energy, which eliminates the need for replacements and ensures continuous functionality as long as the lights and hub are powered.

Unique switch - Not for everyone

As with any Philips Hue device, these are not cheap. That is not the point of this review - It's just an acknowledgment of the ecosystem. If you don't like it, then don't buy Hue. If you have Hue, it's just a part of the cost of enjoying the most advanced and versatile system of lighting that currently exists in the market for most people. Regarding the Tap Switch - This is one unique device, and it is splendid for what it is. To define that exactly though, is perhaps more easily done by saying what it IS NOT: It is NOT a normal switch. It can be wall mounted, but isn't best used there all the time (unless you really like having a weird hockey puck on your wall, in addition to the hockey puck that would be a smart thermostat). It isn't the super-program-it-to-do-a-billion-things sort of smart switch with double/triple-tap options. This is not a delicate device that will respond to the lightest touch. What this is though, is a switch that can handle a few programmable scenes, is powered by your button press (and thus requires some effort to push, with a tactile click - Also won't register multi-tap since it is a deliberate and slow click) and will never need replacement batteries since it has none. It is great for placing somewhere and not worrying about it, like on a table runner for the dining room, or on the nightstand for a bedroom, or on the desk in an office. A couple examples of where these are being used in the house: Our dining room has a series of BR30 color bulbs, so we have buttons on this switch set to a seasonal pattern (that I change every few months), a bright, a dim, and off. The switch sits beside whatever decorations are on the table. In the bedroom we have a number of reading lamps that run on Hue schedules to turn on in the evening, and dim as is gets later. The switch has a magnetic dock that I've made for the headboard of the bed. The buttons are set to full brightness, dimmed, only one lamp (for when I'm reading but don't want to disturb my wife), and off. We have one at each side of the bed, and each switch has been set to turn on the lamp on that side only, so that it's easy to transition to as much or as little light as we need, and we never had to worry about accidentally pressing a button that is overly sensitive as we fumble in the dark while sleepy. And no worrying about batteries - These will work as long as there is power to the lights and the Hue hub. My rating is 5/5 - As with any smart switch, it is not for everyone, or for every use, but there are some great ways to use this that simply can't be replicated by any other style of switch.

I should have had one of these a long time ago. Although I can use Alexa, Google Nest voice commands, or my smartphone to turn the light on/off and dim, sometimes you just want to push a dedicated button. I use it for the Hue lights in my bedroom, without reaching for the phone, or calling out loudly enough to wake Alexa, I can reliably control my lights. Plus this puppy does not use batteries--a big plus! I wish all devices were this simple and carefree.

Was easy to setup. All 4 buttons have to be programmed either to one light or one room. You can't have different buttons control different rooms unfortunately. Doesn't ever need batteries since it uses kinetic energy. Great for colored lights where you can change scenes easily

Started with one and then picked up two more on a deal of the day. These things are great! No batteries needed and you don’t have to speak to Siri to turn your lights on or off. You can just push the appropriate button on the tap switch to control up to three zones or specific lights. Very handy and worthwhile addition to my hue lights in the house.

The tap is nice because of the no-battery need I just give a little push and the lights all work great! I set mine for on/off, daylight, evening, and a multi-color mix. I wish this would remember the play-setting but that was a post-launch software feature,

This is a great little remote. I use it for my smart lights and it's so easy to use my 2 year can use it. I highly recommend if you have hue lights and use different levels of brightness.

No battery EVER, its true. We use ours all the time and the fact you can easily switch which each button does via the app, this thing is our favorite quick light control.

I absolutely love this button. It’s great that it doesn’t require batteries and it’s been a great addition to my office. My office has a door that goes out to my backyard and I was looking for a way to turn on/off my Hue lights without using Siri or the wall switch. This has been the perfect option and it works all over the house if I take it with me.

I still believe Philips Hue products are overpriced, but found this device on sale open box. If you have Philips lights in your house, this is a GREAT device for quickly changing the theme without opening the app on your phone.

Handy to have -- especially since there are no batteries. But, the simplicity of the switch also means it's light on features. Four buttons means four light options. Not that I entertain greatly, but between off, daylight lighting, and evening lighting, you're really only left with one button for anything fun! I much prefer the dimmer switch, but this will do in a pinch.

I was looking for something to be able to turn lights on and off even easier than picking up my phone or installing an actual switch. This was perfect. Very easy to use and set up. The double sided tape on the back isn't strong enough to have it stick on the wall though. But that wasn't a huge thing since I just put it on my nightstand for me to easily grab. Great product for someone who doesn't want to install a switch.
