The floating heads are comfortable on face, but doesn’t get all the hairs on chin too well. The attachable clipper isn’t as good as an older model I had

Great Razor and Cleaning System

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I had a Norelco razor that I used through college. It was back in the days where the only flex was the floating heads. It also had a built-in flip-up trimmer on the back which felt like it would break off if I put too much pressure on it. It was a strictly dry razor and I had a difficult time keeping it clean.
This new Norelco 5750 has numerous improvements. In addition to the floating heads, each head flexes and the trio of heads is mounted in such a way that it flexes as well. So it really does a decent job matching to the countours of your face. The razor feels nice in the hand. It's very well contoured to a natural grip. The Turbo+ feature runs the razor a bit faster and I don't see a reason why I wouldn't run it faster all the time.
While the trimmer head seems solidly built, it's a separate head and I feel like I may lose it.
Included with the purchase is a zippered travel case. It's really only large enough for the razor itself. My previous Norelco could hold the razor and the charging cord. I don't think it's going to be a problem because the battery life seems like it may be longer than the advertised 60 minutes.
The cleaning is a biggest difference. The old Norelco just included a small brush. It wasn't effective. With the new Norelco, most of the time, I can just run the razor under the faucet and get it clean. The heads flip up with the push of the button to clean from under the heads. Each week I can place the razor in the SmartClean system and it gives it a thorough 10 minute cleaning and it lubricates the blades for a longer lifetime. It also charges the razor. The SmartClean system is rather large. It takes a decent amount of counter space. It requires the use of a fluid cartridge. I am hoping to be able to find a fluid alternative, because it can get a little pricey to replace these cartridges every couple months.
Once the razor is fully engaged in the SmartClean system, it charges automatically. I thought the on/off touch button would start the charging process, but instead it engages the cleaning cycle.
Just a note: The razor came with a JC301 cartridge. I kept trying to find a 3 pack of JC301 and finally dawned on the concept that the last digit signifies how many are sold in a pack. So JC301 is a single cartridge, JC302 is a two cartridge pack and JC303 is a three cartridge pack. I was foolish to think that JC301 was a specific cartridge compatible with my device. (This kind of thinking is probably the result of inkjet cartridge brainwashing)

Excellent Razor with a Couple of Caveats

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Philips 5750 is a 3-head rechargeable razor that gives an excellent shave. The pivoting head takes a little getting used to if you are used to a fixed head electric shaver, but makes it easy to follow the contours of your face.
The razor allows for wet or dry shave. Use just water or any shaving cream, which I found made the shave even closer than just dry.
The device comes with a docking base that charges, cleans, and lubricates the razor, and the cord that powers the dock can be removed & plugged directly into the razor to charge if you're travelling. The box also includes a zippered travel case for the razor.
With the cleaning & lubricant fluid put into the base, you can trigger an automatic cleaning of the device after use, although they recommend you rinse the device under water prior to running it thru the cleaning mode. This also freshens the device up from that "old shaver" smell.
CONS:
I found 2 cons to the device during use.
First, when you store the unit in the docking station it simply will not fully dry. So when you rinse it in the sink & then store it, 24 hours later the heads are still wet. Same with running the cleaning cycle -- the device is wet some 24 hours later. And it's worse following the cleaning cycle if you try to dry shave. The cleaning fluid left behind dries quickly on your face making your face "rubbery" and thus the razor will no longer glide at all. I found myself having toe re-wet my face with water just to be able to use the razor. The only way I have found to not deal with the residual moisture is to leave it out of the dock on the counter with the heads flipped up (cleaning position) to fully dry. But this seems to negate the concept of having a dedicated place to store the device.
The other con is the button to open the shaving heads to allow for it to be rinsed if somewhat large & prominent right on the front of the shaver. So if you hold the razor with your hand closer to the shave heads you have a tendency to bump that button, and that opens the razor in the middle of your shave.
Other than those 2 caveats, it's an excellent razor that provides a nice, close, comfortable shave.

So many rotary shavers out there, with the promise of delivering that as close as a razor shave. The Philips Shaver 5750 enters the fray with a little different approach.
The first thing you notice about the shaver is the build quality. It is lightweight, but feels durable. The docking station is very well thought out and made. The overall feel of the device is lightweight. That initially concerned me because of possible fragility, but as mentioned, the shaver is very well built.
The 5750 has rapid charge; only taking an hour to charge completely. This, of course, is a wonderful feature considering the need at times to shave when battery is discovered depleted. Once I charged it up, I rubbed my face and switched it on. My first impression was that the shaver was quiet. I actually thought it may be too weak to give a good shave (or that it would leave bumpy skin). To my surprise, the 5750 worked very well, removing stubble effectively and smoothly. It works pretty well in the shower also, but I prefer using rotary shavers dry. It has a Turbo button, which speeds up the rotary heads. I still don't get the need for Turbo. I feel the shaver should default to the Turbo speed - remove the button. The faster the rotary, the less likely for the user to experience hair pulling and bumpy skin. Overall, the 5750 performed very well, leaving a smooth, close shave.
The Philips 5750 Shaver has a very cool self cleaning system built into it's charging dock. This is one of the coolest features I have seen on a personal care device. It comes with a cleaning solution cartridge that slides into the base of the charging station. This cartridge has a recommended life of 3 months, with weekly use. Although cleaning the rotary heads is as easy as opening and rinsing, the cleaning system is a godsend. There isn't much that beats using your shaver, then snapping into the charging station and allowing it to self clean - cool stuff.
Overall, this is a wonderful product for someone who needs quick, effective grooming with little effort.

It's hard to find anything negative to say about this shaver. I love the rechargeable battery, included travel case, it's easy to clean, includes a trimmer adapter, and has a dock to charge+clean+lubricate the shaver. I love it!
If you're switching from traditional razors (like I am), it takes a little getting used to, but it's so nice not needing to use shaving cream (but you can if you want with this shaver). The dock also takes up more counter space, but it's worth it.

Series 5000 shaver by Philips Norelco provides a close, comfortable shave but not without its issues.
The shaver is comfortable in the hand, offers quiet operation, and holds a good charge. The articulated head glides smoothly over your skin and keeps good contact over the varies curves of your face while the large surface area helps to make quick work of your shave. The shave is close and smooth and never irritated my skin once. And the base, while a bit large, does a phenomenal job of cleaning the head.
That said, there are some issues. The power button on the shaver is very easy to hit during normal operation. The default speed of the shaver seems slow; I always run it on Turbo. I have not had to replace the cleaner cartridge for the base yet, but am not really keen on a blowing through another inkjet-like disposable. And the biggest concern: The shaver cannot be used while plugged in; if the charge goes down you must wait for it to charge.

The shaver itself works okay, it seems to run slower than previous shavers I have had in the past despite being fully charged. The cordless feature seems nice and the battery seems to last a long time. The cons are the fact that the cleaning solution needs to be replenished periodically using only the specific type of cleaner, meaning an additional purchase later on. The cleaning base itself is very bulky and takes up a lot of space! With all the attachments provided, there is really no way to store them and keep them together such as mounts on the base or a small bag to hold everything in. Overall just an okay product, nothing to rave about.

My cost for this razor with the self cleaning station and refills was around $180. I would expect at this price it would actually be a decent shave for my husband but that is not the case. It takes him using this thing for over ten minutes just to have a patchy face with a rash. Terrible quality at a high price.

This is the second and best cordless shaver I have used in my lifetime and it performs very well. Very close and very comfortable. Does not require any shaving cream for a comfortable shave either.
The included trimmer is perfect for evening out my sideburns and is very easy to interchange with the rotary head.
I removed 1 star because although this is the closest shave I have every gotten with an electric shaver, like all cordless shavers, for me this does not get as close as standard razor with disposable heads.

Works very well on one or two day stubble, does not work well (as most electric shavers) on longer stubble. Little irritation given to my skin, you use a moving circular pattern to shave against the grain of your facial hair. Works well in shower or with shaving gel. I did try the smartclean feature/basin and it did work, but it states that it is not sanitizing, so I probably won't use it much going forward, just rinse and dry is good enough for me for single person use.

4.5 Star, nice updates, good shave

This shaver is a more of a 4.5 star product. It gives you a nice shave that is about as close as an electric shave can get. You can use it wet/dry with a variety of features. Turbo mode is a great addition to those who have limited time in the morning or for a quick shave before a night out.
Pros:
Flexible options
Cleaning Base
Good shave
Turbo Mode
Included trimmer attachment
Personally, I believe there is nothing like a standard razor shave to give a close, clean shave in no time. I like the ease and comfort of an electric shave but always preferred to go with razor. However, this Philips shaver has changed my mind. As my schedule continues to get busier and morning time more limited, I am happy to have this shaver ready for use. I can use it in the shower on the weekends or dry with water or shave gel on the weekdays. I really enjoy the flexibility of using this shaver with something or nothing on my face. I prefer to have at least water on my face when shaving so this is perfect. To quicken the shave time, the Turbo mode definitely gives that extra power to shave more quickly, like a razor shave. Along with the good multi-motion shaving heads, I can get a good shave faster without the hassle of a proper razor shave. The included trimmer attachment is nice to have and pretty standard, nothing special. The cleaning base works well and is nice to have the shaver ready to go with minimal effort. Overall, this is a good shaver that does what it should. Philips has added some nice features that might help some die-hard razor shavers want to switch or supplement their routine with this shaver.
Cons:
Cord
Battery Life
Travel case
Overall, there is not much to complain about. The battery is supposed to last 60 minutes which they think is 17 shaves. That is quite far-fetched and will probably last 10shaves, depending on how often you shave and length of the beard of course. It takes about one hour of charge for 60 minutes of use, so the charger is not very efficient. Philips still employs a non-proprietary cord. I would like to see the move to a USB-type charger, but their could be design limitations. In addition, you cannot use the shaver while it is plugged in. Numerous Philips devices have this pitfall and it needs to change.

Great Improvment over some older electric shavers

I have always had issues with electric shavers leaving me itchy or with very large red areas after use. This shaver after several uses though does not have that problem. Also this shaver seems to give a closer shave without having to press harder to get to the shorter stubble. It even does well in thicker stubble that you may have let grow out for a day or two. The only issue I really had and its not really an issue more of a convenience thing is I sometimes had to make several passes in different directions to get as close a shave as some other shavers. I tried the circular motion they show in the instruction booklet but I still had to make a pass with the shaver facing a different way to get all of the arias. Overall though its a much more comfortable shave at the end of the day so its worth the extra pass or two to get it sorted out. Also the cleaner/charger base is a nice touch, I don't have to worry about remembering to plug it in as the place it sits when not is use charges it, and even if you don't use the base for cleaning the shaver is still really easy to clean out which is a nice touch when you travel with it. Also it comes with a nice partially hard carrying case, which is also great for travel as well. I only wish the case had a little extra room in it so you could store the charge as well as the shaver in it. Overall nice electric shaver.

Great Shaver For The Price
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I've had other Norelco shavers along with other brands of electric shavers. This shaver definitely exceeds anything I've had in the past. That being said, this isn't the best shaver on the market but you will also pay a lot more money for those shavers. For the price, this is something I highly recommend. From my experience with this shaver, the wet shave (especially with foam or gel) is a more comfortable and closer shave. Doing a dry shave with this product is just fine but definitely try the wet shave and notice a huge difference in my opinion. The normal shave mode/speed has been sufficient for me but the turbo mode might be a better option for others. A couple of tips that aren't mentioned or very clear in the instructions: To plug in the charger on the back of the cleaning system, insert the plug UP at around a 45 degree angle...it will not plug straight in (as I tried initially). Also, the cleaning system just needs to be used periodically....not after every shave. You can run the shaver under warm water for basic cleaning. Once the shaver gets low or runs out of battery power, you can insert and activate the cleaning system. Make sure you are doing this overnight or during the day when you do not need the shaver. The process is pretty lengthy as it is cleaning, drying, and lubricating your shaver....the drying process takes the longest. The cleaning fluid can last around 2 months for normal use....you might be able to extend the usefulness a little longer. The cleaning fluid is not really expensive as you can find 3 and 6 packs for a decent price if you look online...Best Buy seems to have a pretty good deal when I checked. Lastly, some complaints that there isn't a traditional shaver stand/cradle that has been included with other Norelco shavers. The cleaning system is the cradle....you can store the shaver upside down without activating the cleaning system. You can also store the shaver upright without any problem within the cleaning system. Overall, a great shaver for the price....don't think you'll be disappointed.

The Philips Norelco 5750 electric shaver puts a lot of features into one package. It can be used wet or dry, comes with a sideburn trimmer, a SmartClean system that docks cleans and charges the shaver and of course includes the iconic Norelco Flex Shaving Heads. The shaver is very comfortable in the hand and also comes with a nice carrying travel case. You can charge the shaver without using the SmartClean system. I am a person who has to shave everyday. I don’t have a tough beard but if I don’t shave everyday by the second day it shows pretty good. One of the features of the shaver is a turbo mode. It did seem to help but with my beard it was hard to really tell for sure. As a first time user of the Flex Shaving Heads I still have to learn how to get the best shave with them. The shaver does works great and it gave me a very good shave but I can’t say it was better than the more conventional electric shavers I have always used before. I find the SmartClean a nice feature. It is convenient and if you use it your shaver will last longer. Although the shaver is already very easy to keep clean even if you don’t use the SmartClean system. This is a nice shaver and if you're already a Norelco user I am sure you will be satisfied. If you're not like me than my first experience has been very good so far.

I've always wanted to try a good electric razor. I got tired of buying foam and razors regularly. But what's always been a barrier is the price of the electric shaver and the cost of replacement shaving heads. This Philips razor is a bit pricey, but I think that if you know you want an electric shaver or you just want to upgrade, this is a good value.
If you've never used an electric shaver before, I'd be a bit weary about jumping right in with something this pricey, because you may not like it. The instruction manual tells you that you should use it for 3 weeks before your skin will get used to it, but that's a long time to wait with uncomfortable skin. For me, I've been using it for about a week now and my skin feels ok (although I did have an ingrown hair show up after 1st use).
Keep in mind I'm writing this as a person who hasn't used an electric shaver in years.
I liked the cleaning/charging station that comes with this shaver, but it's HUGE. It comes with one package of cleaning solution and it's simple to use. NOTE: like virtually every single Phillips consumer electronic device, the instruction book lacks good instructions on how to use it. But it's easy enough, you push the top of the base down and it raises up, giving you clearance to put your shaver in upside down and with the head alignment, there's only one way to do it, and then you push it back down and the top of the base attaches with a satisfying click. After you shave, you can clean the head of the shaver and it works great! After you shave, there will be hairs in the shave head and after you clean it through the clean cycle, bam they're all cleaned up. That's a nice feature, but I'm hesitant to use it every single time I shave because I don't know how long the cleaning solution lasts or how much replacements costs (i.e. see my comment on terrible instructions above).
It also comes with a nice travel case, which I think is a huge benefit. It comes with a trimmer that snaps on to the shaver so you can trim your sideburns. It requires you to pull shaver off the head. You don't screw anything, just pull straight off. But I gotta be honest, I couldn't always get it to snap in and out. Not a big deal, but it's something to deal with that can be a minor annoyance.
The performance is pretty good...for an electric shaver. You cannot beat the smooth silkiness after shaving with a razor. But this is pretty good. There's going to be a little "roughness" (comparatively speaking) but I found myself getting my shave done quicker in the morning. The first time I was a bit slow, but after the first time, I figured out how to use the shaver on my face and get it and get out. For me personally, I liked the ability to shave quickly. I take this bad boy in the shower, because it's waterproof, and shave while I'm in the shower. It's not earth shattering by any stretch, but it does at least feel like I'm saving some time in my morning routine.
If you haven't jumped into an electric shaver before and are thinking about, I would caution about spending this much money to jump in as using one versus a traditional razor is a big change. But if you already use an electric shaver or absolutely know you want one, I think this is the best one out there. Just make sure you have plenty of counter space AND an additional outlet to account for the size of the base cleaning station.

So far So good

This is my first real experience with an electric shaver. So far it's been...interesting.
First, this shaver is packed EXTREMELY well. I was impressed (and slightly annoyed to be honest) at how well it's packed into it's box. There's a lot of unpacking to do. Thanks to all that packaging the razor, case, trimmer attachment and holder are all in terrific condition. Along with those items there is a charging cord and "cleaning solution" pack in the box.
Once everything is unpacked the actual set up is fairly easy. There are two ways to charge the razor--either in the stand or plugging directly into the razor itself. The stand is not unattractive, but does take up a sizable amount of counter space. It appears to only be necessary to thoroughly clean the razor, so it can be kept put away until you want to use that function.
The razor itself comes in it's carrying case and is already assembled, but is not charged. It needs an hour or so to fully charge. There are easy to read charge indicator lights on both the razor and the cleaning stand that actually tell you how charged it is at any given time. One caveat--the plug for the charger in the back of the stand is at a very awkward angle. I almost broke the ends trying to get it plugged in and could not for the life of me figure out why. I assume this was done for space, but some sort of indicator showing which direction the plug should go would have been very helpful.
There is a trimmer attachment that in theory is easy to change, but felt awkward in practice. I kept thinking I was going to damage either the razor head or trimmer attachment while trying to change them, which is weird for a part that pulls straight off and pops right on. It kept feeling like it wasn't aligning quite right and the parts had to be forced. The trimmer itself worked fine.
Shaving with the razor is an interesting experience. In reading the instructions they recommend not to use the razor on beard growth older than three days without trimming it down first. This appears to be accurate as I tried it on 5-day old growth and the razor was not having it. So, after using a blade razor for a day I went back to this razor this morning. The results were much better. I tried it without shaving cream, though it does suggest that you can do it with or without. I may try with next, as one of the difficulties I had was trying to tell which areas had been shaved already. Writing this review about five hours after shaving I do feel like my beard has grown back more than normal. According to the instructions faces take about three weeks to adjust to different shaving types, so I assume the way I feel today is normal for this early in the process.
The heads are easy to rinse out--there is a button that flips the head up and you can rinse it under water. The cleaning stand gives a thorough "deep" clean that takes about an hour.
The really excellent thing is that Philips provides a money-back guarantee, so if you do try it for the three weeks and it just doesn't take for you they will give a full refund. That's impressive.
So far the experience has been good, and it feels high-quality. I'm expecting the shave will improve and feel closer once my face is used to this type of shave. If it doesn't get better I'll update this review.
