A good shaver
Posted .======= Summary ======= The Philips 5750 shaver is a good and nice shaver that lives up to its claims for a clean and comfortable shave. Its only weakness is that some areas of the face require multiple/extra passes. ======= Design ======= The Philips 5750 is light and ergonomically easy to grip and use. The white LED light is a nice touch on a black & silver color scheme. The tri-head shaver offer a large cutting/shaving area and it gently glides over your skin without causing drags and snags. It feels very soft on your skin. I also like how quiet the motor is (I'm used to using a relatively louder foil shaver). Accessing the blades for cleaning & replacement is quite easy. Press down on that little tab and the head flips open and over. From there, one can easily clean the blades with running water or replace the blades when needed down the line. The kit comes with a shaver carrying case, a charging/cleaning cradle, a pack of cleaning solution, a trimmer accessory, and a power cord. Nice thoughtful touches include reminder lights for when to clean the blades and when to replace them. ======= Performance ======= I found the shaving performance to be pretty good, especially for a rotary shaver. I had changed over from a rotary shaver to a foil shaver about 3 years ago because the rotary shaver couldn't shave as close as I wanted it to. Within the last 3 years, it appears that rotary shavers have gotten better at close shaving. The close-shave performance of the Philips 5750 shaver is just as good as my 3-years-old mid-high-range ~$200 foil shaver. In order to get that good close shave, however, I had to use the Turbo Mode every time. Without the Turbo Mode turned on, the shaver just couldn't get all those hairs. As expected, the rotary Philips shaver made easy work of curvy areas such as the jawline and wide areas such as the cheeks. Getting the shaver to closely shave the moustache area & below the lips area was a bit more challenging. Those areas required multiple extra passes compared to my foil shaver. And because the tri-head shaving area is so large and with a gap in the middle of the heads, it required extra precision effort. In the end, though, the Philips shaver got the job done and my face was smooth and clean. The sideburn trimmer also worked very well. To use it, you first have to remove the tri-head shaver head by pulling it straight out from the main body. Once it's out, you pop in the trimmer unit, turn on the power, and trim those sideburns. THe trimmer did an excellent and precise job on my sideburns. Very nice~! ======= Maintenance ======= The Philips 5750 shaver is easy to keep clean and maintain due to its design and the included charging/cleaning cradle. By pushing down on the tab near and below the shaver head, you can have it flip open. Once it's open like that, you can tap the head to loosen any hairs, run some water over it, or blast it with a spray from a cleaning solution can. Another way to clean the shaver is by docking it inside the charging/cleaning cradle and letting it do the cleaning for you. Simple and easy. ======= Is it any good? A good buy? ======= Yes~! The Philips 5750 shaver is an excellent choice for those looking for a gentle and close shave (wet or dry) with a powerful but quiet motor. Using it won't stress you out either because of how easy it is to clean & maintain it. Good stuff~!

Very good starter razor.
Posted .I’ve been using electric shavers for around 35 years, from Remington, Panasonic, Braun and Norelco. I also have a very heavy stubble that always led to cuts and nicks using a razor, that’s why I ended up switching to electric razors. Upon opening I was impressed seeing that this one came inside a zippered / padded case. Great for storing while traveling. There was also a cleaning / charging station, a cleaning cartridge, charger and instructions, all well packed protecting the contents. I immediately put everything together and put the razor in the charging station. The top part clicks down on the bottom of the inverted razor locking it in. I like this better than the Panasonic solution as it just pushes down, no locking it in place. And when you need to remove the razor you just press down on the cap, let up, and it pops up releasing the razor, nice, no fumbling around pulling up on the charger end. For my first time using it I decided to shave one half of my face with this new Norelco and the other half with the Panasonic I currently have. I noticed right away the shave went quite a bit quicker than the Panasonic, probably due to having three heads that cover a lot of area. I also noticed that it’s a little harder to get into tight spaces under the nose and by ears, it works just takes a little more practice is all. After the shave I had my wife try to pick which side was the best, and after her very thorough examination she said she just couldn’t tell the difference, both sided looked and felt the same to her. This is great news since I’ve always gotten a great shave with the Panasonic units. So this one at least matches them and I wouldn’t want one that gave less of a shave over it. The one thing I did notice that this unit was a little rougher on the skin around my neckline area, sort of made it a little sore, but then again I’ve been using a Panasonics for a good 5 years now and my face is use to it. I figure after a few more shaves my skin will be used to it and I won’t notice a difference. I always shave dry too, so I may try wet shaving with some soap to see how that works too. The really nice plus here is the carrying/travel case that came with it, my other ones didn’t and I would have really appreciated that. And the snap on trimmer, not having one in the way, my current Panasonic one is close to the top edge and I keep bumping into it in the nose area, this one is completely out of then way once removed. There’s also a “Turbo” button, I haven’t even tried that yet, it shaved super-fast the first go around so can’t see needing it faster than it already is. This looks like a really good shaver, and I’m sure you will be happy with it. For first timers it always takes a little time to get use to electric shavers, they all cut differently and if your skin isn’t use to it then you can get some irritation from it.

Good electric shaver but forfeiting counter space
Posted .Having recently upgraded from a previous model several years old, I was excited to see what Philips technology has brought to the world of shaving. At first sight, the size of the charging/cleaning station took me by surprise as it took up a much larger area of my bathroom countertop due to the self-cleaning function built into the base. The shaver seats into the base with the top shaving head down and you simply have to press down on the top to engage charging. In order to activate the self-cleaning option while the shaver is set into place and charging, you simply press on a button on the base. The cleaning takes approximately ten minutes which was longer than I expected however I was confident it was clean and disinfected after that amount of time. The shaver has an ergonomic feel as it seems to fit comfortably in the grasp of your hand. While using the shaver, I preferred the “Turbo” function versus the slower speed as it did not pull on my facial hair as much causing slight discomfort and it also caught more hair on the faster speed. I found myself having to go over parts of my face, specifically bends and edges, to capture some stubble. It’s still without saying that nothing compares to the shave of a razor but this electric shaver is a good alternative. You may want to consider opting for the lesser model without the self-cleaning option due to the sheer size of the charging/cleaning station and the space it takes up on a counter top. The manual still recommends not sharing the razor even with the fancy self-cleaning option so I think rinsing it under the faucet would probably do the trick if only one person was using it. This model also comes with an attachment for straight line trimming. Some might even go as far to say the cleaning station option in the higher end models is somewhat of a gimmick to get you to spend more money eventually having to change out the cleaning solution.

Waterproof and comfortable.
Posted .I never owned an official shaver but in the barbershops that I go to some barbers use them on my face and neck. After using them a few days later I get irritation on my skin and I never noticed a real close shave. In between haircuts I groom my beard using a edge clipper or my Phillips trimmer and I’ve been doing this for years. I’m now trying this Phillips shaver 5750 and this will now be part of my routine. This is an upgrade from what I’m used to and the results show. You can have a very smooth face after using the Phillips 5750 because it gets close. I waited 2 days before leaving a review so I can see if I get any irritation or bumps after using and so far so good. Having it in your hands feels very comfortable because it’s light weight and the flex heads contours to the shape of your face leaving you with a close shave. I know the blades are designed to cut closer but the flex heads make it very comfortable. The Norelco 5750 is packed with the shaver, trimmer attachment, smart clean, power cord, travel case and the cleaning cartridge. You get everything to get you started but I’m not sure how long the smart clean cartridge will last and how much it cost. I like the idea because it’s something to keep your shaver sanitized and lubricated while it charges. The only reasons why I took a star away for this review are because the possible high cost of buying cleaning cartridges and the size of the smart clean. I think it’s too big for the bathroom sink counter top. Besides that I will recommend this to those looking for a great shaver.

Wow! I'm impressed with this razor!
|Posted .It had been 20 years since I had last owned an electric, and I was not very pleased with my experience then. I guess the technology has improved since then, because my first shave with this razor was smooth, fast, comfortable, and irritation free. The first thing I noticed was that this razor was much lighter than the one I had 20 years ago. It fits in the hand like a glove. The 3 round heads move and pivot effortlessly across the contours of the face. The turbo setting on the chin made shaving there so easy. I used Shave Secret as my lubricant and along with this razor got a great shave. I expected to experience some irritation or perhaps razor burn switching from a standard blade to electric, as is normal for the first couple of weeks, but I had none of that. I'm VERY happy with my purchase. The charging/cleaning mount is also very convenient. Some reviews state that it takes up alot of room, but I found it did not. It all depends on what type of sink/vanity one has in their bathroom. Obviously if you are using just a standard sink it would be an issue, but if you have a mid sized vanity there would be plenty of room for the unit. I included a pic so you can see what I mean. Overall, this razor hits it out of the park. I feel dumb I waited so long to purchase one. I'm sure glad I finally did.

A Cut Above the Rest
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe first thing that becomes apparent when you use the Norelco 5750 shaver for the first time, is how truly quiet it is (even in the Turbo mode). It seems to be very well designed and has an ergonomic grip and feel. I really loved this product as it provided a close shave and was easy to clean by simply rinsing it under hot running water. The shaver works equally as well on a dry or wet face and can be utilized in the shower. The shaver has a separate trimmer attachment that requires you to remove the shaving heads first, and then push/mount the trimmer onto the machine. Instructions indicate that head replacement should take place on a yearly basis, but that seems to be the average length of time for shavers. The razor has a waterproof head with a flip open apparatus. Shaving heads can be rinsed under hot water to clean. The cleaning process was quite simple and quick. This product was accompanied with a hard carry case, so that you can pop it into your suitcase or hand carry baggage when you travel. As mentioned earlier, the shaver has a Turbo mode. I don't have thick facial hair, so I really didn't see any benefit from the Turbo mode, but I suspect that consumers that have full thick facial hair may benefit from this capability. It should be noted if you completely run down the razors charge, you will have to charge it to utilize it. If you try and plug it in to shave at the same time, it doesn't work. The shaver is auto-locked when under electrical charge. This should not be construed as a negative point, as this is designed to prevent electrical shock. I did find it cumbersome to switch out and reattach either the shaving head or trimmer attachment back onto the machine itself. Instructions indicate that you simply push "down" and you should hear a click. In my experience, I had to try it several times until a successful attachment took place. There is a piece on the underside which moves when you apply pressure, whereby making several attempts a reality before coupling was successful. In closing, the Norelco doles out a great shaving experience. I found the shave to be very smooth, without nicks and cuts. It is well balanced, looks good, and offers a comfortable feel when shaving. I highly recommend this well-designed, quality product.

Great features, but pricey
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI've always wanted to try a good electric razor. I got tired of buying foam and razors regularly. But what's always been a barrier is the price of the electric shaver and the cost of replacement shaving heads. This Philips razor is a bit pricey, but I think that if you know you want an electric shaver or you just want to upgrade, this is a good value. If you've never used an electric shaver before, I'd be a bit weary about jumping right in with something this pricey, because you may not like it. The instruction manual tells you that you should use it for 3 weeks before your skin will get used to it, but that's a long time to wait with uncomfortable skin. For me, I've been using it for about a week now and my skin feels ok (although I did have an ingrown hair show up after 1st use). Keep in mind I'm writing this as a person who hasn't used an electric shaver in years. I liked the cleaning/charging station that comes with this shaver, but it's HUGE. It comes with one package of cleaning solution and it's simple to use. NOTE: like virtually every single Phillips consumer electronic device, the instruction book lacks good instructions on how to use it. But it's easy enough, you push the top of the base down and it raises up, giving you clearance to put your shaver in upside down and with the head alignment, there's only one way to do it, and then you push it back down and the top of the base attaches with a satisfying click. After you shave, you can clean the head of the shaver and it works great! After you shave, there will be hairs in the shave head and after you clean it through the clean cycle, bam they're all cleaned up. That's a nice feature, but I'm hesitant to use it every single time I shave because I don't know how long the cleaning solution lasts or how much replacements costs (i.e. see my comment on terrible instructions above). It also comes with a nice travel case, which I think is a huge benefit. It comes with a trimmer that snaps on to the shaver so you can trim your sideburns. It requires you to pull shaver off the head. You don't screw anything, just pull straight off. But I gotta be honest, I couldn't always get it to snap in and out. Not a big deal, but it's something to deal with that can be a minor annoyance. The performance is pretty good...for an electric shaver. You cannot beat the smooth silkiness after shaving with a razor. But this is pretty good. There's going to be a little "roughness" (comparatively speaking) but I found myself getting my shave done quicker in the morning. The first time I was a bit slow, but after the first time, I figured out how to use the shaver on my face and get it and get out. For me personally, I liked the ability to shave quickly. I take this bad boy in the shower, because it's waterproof, and shave while I'm in the shower. It's not earth shattering by any stretch, but it does at least feel like I'm saving some time in my morning routine. If you haven't jumped into an electric shaver before and are thinking about, I would caution about spending this much money to jump in as using one versus a traditional razor is a big change. But if you already use an electric shaver or absolutely know you want one, I think this is the best one out there. Just make sure you have plenty of counter space AND an additional outlet to account for the size of the base cleaning station.

So far So good
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis is my first real experience with an electric shaver. So far it's been...interesting. First, this shaver is packed EXTREMELY well. I was impressed (and slightly annoyed to be honest) at how well it's packed into it's box. There's a lot of unpacking to do. Thanks to all that packaging the razor, case, trimmer attachment and holder are all in terrific condition. Along with those items there is a charging cord and "cleaning solution" pack in the box. Once everything is unpacked the actual set up is fairly easy. There are two ways to charge the razor--either in the stand or plugging directly into the razor itself. The stand is not unattractive, but does take up a sizable amount of counter space. It appears to only be necessary to thoroughly clean the razor, so it can be kept put away until you want to use that function. The razor itself comes in it's carrying case and is already assembled, but is not charged. It needs an hour or so to fully charge. There are easy to read charge indicator lights on both the razor and the cleaning stand that actually tell you how charged it is at any given time. One caveat--the plug for the charger in the back of the stand is at a very awkward angle. I almost broke the ends trying to get it plugged in and could not for the life of me figure out why. I assume this was done for space, but some sort of indicator showing which direction the plug should go would have been very helpful. There is a trimmer attachment that in theory is easy to change, but felt awkward in practice. I kept thinking I was going to damage either the razor head or trimmer attachment while trying to change them, which is weird for a part that pulls straight off and pops right on. It kept feeling like it wasn't aligning quite right and the parts had to be forced. The trimmer itself worked fine. Shaving with the razor is an interesting experience. In reading the instructions they recommend not to use the razor on beard growth older than three days without trimming it down first. This appears to be accurate as I tried it on 5-day old growth and the razor was not having it. So, after using a blade razor for a day I went back to this razor this morning. The results were much better. I tried it without shaving cream, though it does suggest that you can do it with or without. I may try with next, as one of the difficulties I had was trying to tell which areas had been shaved already. Writing this review about five hours after shaving I do feel like my beard has grown back more than normal. According to the instructions faces take about three weeks to adjust to different shaving types, so I assume the way I feel today is normal for this early in the process. The heads are easy to rinse out--there is a button that flips the head up and you can rinse it under water. The cleaning stand gives a thorough "deep" clean that takes about an hour. The really excellent thing is that Philips provides a money-back guarantee, so if you do try it for the three weeks and it just doesn't take for you they will give a full refund. That's impressive. So far the experience has been good, and it feels high-quality. I'm expecting the shave will improve and feel closer once my face is used to this type of shave. If it doesn't get better I'll update this review.
