LOVE IT! Easy on the gums. Easy to learn to use. The vibration did take some getting used to, but after the 3rd use, I no longer noticed it. My teeth literally feel fresh-from-the-dentist every single day now. I have recommended this toothbrush to my friends, coworkers and my young-adult kids. I plant to gift multiple at Christmas. I use mine in the shower. It charges easily and holds a charge for days. I have zero complaints. NONE.

Having never used an electric toothbrush before, I wasn't sure what to expect. This Philips Sonicare is very easy to use and to keep clean. I normally go longer than the 2 minutes that it is set for. You can go shorter if you want. It's easy to hold and keeps a charge.

My dentist had been nudging me to buy a Sonicare for a long time, but I didn't listen, as I thought it was a lot to spend on a toothbrush.
Since I started using my Sonicare, I COMPLETELY have changed my mind, and now agree with my dentist: my teeth truly feel clean, and the timer pushes me to keep brushing for the required (suggested) time.
I hadn't read the manual until about two weeks ago, and now have 'learned' the proper way to use the brush. I took it on a ten-day trip, and the charge lasted the entire time.

I have been using the entry level version of the Sonicare Essence for the past 10 years or so. My teeth had never felt cleaner. I did have to get a new one after about the first 5 years, because unfortunately the battery is not user replaceable.
After another 5 years or so on my replacement Sonicare Essence, this battery too needs to be charged all the time.
So in comes the setup up for me with the new Protective Clean 5100. It is a lot more expensive than the entry level Sonicare brushes, but has other features which were new to me from my older entry level model.
First of all, this Protective Clean 5100 has 3 brushing modes: Clean, White, Gum Care. I personally do not like the gum care mode, I find it does not clean my teeth as well as either clean or white modes, however I can see how someone with sensitive gums would absolutely benefit from this. The Clean and White modes seem to clean my teeth about the same as my older Essence brush.
Philips sells three different kinds of brush heads for use with this brush, one which works best for each of the three clean modes. It included the “G2 Optimal Gum Care” head in the box, which is all I have to compare to my older Essence brush. I would suspect the optimal gum care brush head is softer than the others available.
This model also has a quadpacer feature, where it beeps/vibrates every 30 seconds, so that you move onto the next section on top front, to inside, bottom front, and you guessed it, bottom inside of your teeth. I really like this feature.
This 5100 model also has an electronic reminder they call “BrushSync Technology”. The manual states that it tracks the wear of the brush head, based on the pressure you apply. I have not gotten there yet to know how accurate this is. The brush head has a small electrical contact where it connects to the brush handle.
The 5100 also has a pressure sensor to let you know if you are brushing too hard. I haven’t encountered that I did this in my use.
All of these extra features can also be turned off. Quadpacer, EasyStart, brush head replacement reminder, and the pressure sensor. I will probably turn off EasyStart, as I have been using this kind of toothbrush for a while, and EasyStart basically just increases the vibration power over the first 14 uses. If you have never used this kind of brush before I would imagine you would just leave it on.
I do wish that it had a replaceable by the owner battery. While my essence handle did not have one, and both started losing the ability to hold a charge after about 3 years or so, had the handle had an option to buy a battery from Philips, I would not have necessarily had to buy a new brush all together. The 5100 manual does have a description of how to remove the rechargeable batteries, however they do not mention what kind of battery it is. They also say any attempt to remove the battery will void the warranty.
Overall, I do really like the toothbrush, but continue to be disappointed on not being able to change the battery down the road.

this teeth brush has a great Modes (cleaning, whiting, and Gum care) it has a bunch of accessories available in the stores, it’s very easy to use, and it’s not too pricey comparing with other electronic teeth brushes that they have some extra unnecessary stuff, this teeth brush have basically all the modes that you need simply, and the teeth always looks clean and fresh after every time of use, and the feeling that it gives to me after using it, is like I just walk out of the hygienist office.

Sonicare is a standard in the industry for a reason. It’s designed to be rock-solid and efficient. For the price, you cannot beat the clean, and the gum mode is appreciated for more sensitive gums. If you’re a super klutz like me, be warned that repeatedly dropping this toothbrush can cause it to become unbalanced and lose enough functionality that it will eventually have to be replaced.

Shipped fast and stayed up to date on its location. Product cleans my teeth well. This is my first electric toothbrush and I have been liking it so far. Has a great battery and only have to charge it about every 2 weeks.

Bought for myself as a birthday gift. Works very good, no complaints. Good product for the price. Deep cleans teeth and gets in some very difficult areas that regular tooth brushes dont reach. Highly recommend.

This Sonicare model has been great for what I wanted. Not many extras like the more expensive models. This model has Clean, White, and Gum brushing modes. Clean is the standard mode and the timer paces you for four, 30-second intervals (quadpacer) for brushing different sections of your mouth. White mode has a bit more power and paces you for the 4, 30-second intervals plus a little extra time to polish your front teeth. And Gum mode has a little less power so it's gentle on your gums and paces you for the 4, 30-second intervals plus a little extra time to massage your gums. I chose this model as it offered the 3 brushing modes but not the extra features like brushing intensity modes (for more sensitive gums or teeth) or bluetooth capabilities to track your brushing status on your phone. The models that had those features were out of my price range. The special Sonicare brush heads with RFID chip also track for when you need to replace them (estimated at 3 months). This is nice but does make the brush heads a tad more expensive. There are brush heads without the RFID chip that cost less but won't have the feature of tracking when a replacement is needed.

Replaced a 10yr old toothbrush with this one after the previous finally sprung a leak and toasted the electronics.
Old model was a diamond clean back in the day packaged with the UV head holder.
The newer model does just as good a job or maybe even better job at getting my teeth clean. For the reviews I saw on this model that complain about strength, I'd be sure to give it about a week before making a call as the strength is decreased out of the box for a few days and it's not obvious how to shut this off. It's noticeably different once the ramp up period ends.
Overall, great brush!

Philips Sonicare - ProtectiveClean 5100 Rechargeable Toothbrush - White: I fully charged battery and have not had to charge it for three and a half weeks now. The cleaning head is just a little smaller than I am used to but seems to do the job. I like the little plastic top you can place on toothbrush between cleanings. Overall seems like a good deal, got it on sale.

It’s a good sturdy toothbrush with three settings, one regular, on for whitening and one for gums.. Unlike the 4100 series toothbrush I had before, this comes with a charger and a traveling case. The only question I have is the gun setting recommends a G2 brush head, whereas the standard setting uses the C2 brush head. I can’t imagine changing heads, so I’m using the C2 brush head for everything, since I like the surface more. Also there is an indicator telling you when you need to change brush heads, I'm not sure how that would work. My dentist recommends sonicare.

This type of toothbrush was recommended by my hygienist. After sorting through the options I chose this unit. Within a few days of use I could feel an improvement in my gum structure and teeth. I'm very pleased with my choice and I wish I would have gotten this sooner.

I had to buy an electric toothbrush after seeing a periodontist. I was having bleeding gums and it was because a manual toothbrush doesn't force you to brush for at least two minutes, which is the amount of time to brush and have perfect gums and teeth. This machine is easy to use and it pulses every 30 mins to brush the next section of your teeth. There are two extra modes that makes you brush longer to do what you want to do, from cleaning to whitening to gum care. There is a noticeable difference after using this toothbrush only after two weeks and the periodontist was the one that noticed if I bought one. This has helped me with my teeth and gums and I will never go back to a manual basic toothbrush.

Great toothbrush, many great features. Very light and easy to use.
Upgraded to this after I retired my Sonicare Elite after 20 years.
Hope I can get 20 years from this 5100.
