This is a older movie that I had previously seen, but my wife had not and I was delighted when I was able to purchase it from BestBuy at a good price so my wife and I can watch it anytime we want.

This was a pretty underrated movie, me and my family enjoyed watching it.

This is a really good movie and sheds some light on the plight of '50's era young Irish women that spent years in servitude to the "church" as an consequence of being an unwed mother.. This is based on the true story of one such woman who then got an opportunity to search for her son in her later years. This is a compelling story and makes a good addition to a good film library. The screenplay and acting are top notch.

Saw every contender for the 2014 Oscars and Philomena was denied the honor(s) that should have been awarded. Truly a story that was put to film and executed in the most unique way; it pulls you in, keeps you there, and rips your heart out..... just like FILM / movies used to do when film was art and not an attempt to obscenely exaggerate and corrupt itself in CGI or action or shock value for the 18 year old audience.

Judy Dench is a great actress and does an extremely believable portrayal in this movie. The banter between her and Steve Coogan is outstanding, realistic, and humorous a times. This true story is heart wrenching, and the movie is a "must-see."

Extremely powerful masterpiece centered on Judi Dench's acting genius. Incredible true story revolving around religion, family, love, sexuality and life itself. The journey will come full circle... And will leave you speechless...

Dench gives a performance of a simple person that doesn't make fun and, in many ways, how she may know than given credit. Coogan gives definitely the best performance of his career. Great story, great film.

this movie is based on a true story...very touching...a woman keeps a secret from her family for over 50 years then her daughter puts her in touch with someone who helps her on a journey to help expose the truth

This was a great movie!!! I felt it...mainly anger at how she was treated, & sympathy for the unimaginable guilt she felt. I was shocked to discover it was a true story & only hope it helps others find peace.

I love Judi Dench so that is what drew me to this movie and she did not disappoint me! It is a delightful story of a woman trying to reconnect with a son taken away from her and given up for adoption.

The movie, based on a true story, kept me interested in finding how Philomena lost her child, and the outcome of not only if she finds her son, but also of how the journey bring the two characters together.

The acting is top notch. The story and the developing plot-line grabs you and tugs at all your emotions. The fact that it is a true story and these things happened frequently just rips you to pieces.

Realistic journey of life. Judi Dench's character moves on from the tragedy of her past only to realize how it has shaped her life to that current point. Determined to seek out the truth, she acquires the assistance of a bright and cynical author.

Everything about this movie is well done. The story is what makes the movie so good. The people in the movie are believable and funny. I found my self laughing and crying at the same time.

This movie is a movie about a mom that is looking for her son that was put up for adoption when she was a teenager. The reasons she had to put her son up for adoption is her religion.

Although I did enjoy the movie, I was slightly disappointed in it. I'm not sure why, though. The actors were fabulous, the story was funny & sad and very timely...but for some reason I was just left very unsatisfied by the whole.

I didn't think this would be a movie that I would like but was I ever wrong. This is an excellent movie and should be watched. Definitely should be in everyone's movie collection.

We thoroughly enjoyed this DVD. Judy Dench was exceptional as usual. The story was both intimate and distressing. The movie held our attention despite its paradoxical conclusion.

An awesome movie !! Great characters and a feel good movie all the way although the outcome is not what you might expect. A great movie to watch with your wife or girlfriend !!!

Philomena keeps you on the edge of your seat! A beautifully executed film about a mother's love and a synic's enlightenment!! Keep tissues close by...this is a tear jerker!
