This receiver has all the right hookups for a 5.1 channel system using HDMI inputs and outputs. It is very easy to set up, and the sound is clear without distortion. It also has plenty of volume for a typical home setting. It also uses the audio return channel from my TV, so no separate audio cables are needed, just the HDMI cable.

The Pioneer is one of the few receivers in this price range with built in wifi and bluetooth. Being able to easily stream music to my large living room speakers is fantastic. I've listened to many different soundbars and wireless speaker systems but nothing comes close to the sound of even a basic home theater receiver and a good set of speakers. For the price of a basic Sonos system, you can enjoy much better sound - and I mean way, way better sound - with this receiver. I tried going the soundbar route but even with a very favorably reviewed soundbar, I was disappointed. This receiver is compact, affordable, and packed with features.

Easy to connect all the cables but getting this unit to recognize and talk to all my other components was a new experience for me at sixty. I had to download an app on my smart phone which walked me through the steps with reasonably understandable directions. The final step is when the unit self- calibrates all the speakers with the included microphone which was very impressive. My surround sound performs better than ever. System receiver technology sure has gotten sophisticated!

For the price, this is a pretty decent receiver, has lots of options & the iControl app is pretty cool too. I just wish this receiver had a better EQ, i hike the bass up to it's max +6, & raise it all the way up in the app & there's not much of a change... This is my 1st modern day receiver & i like my two receivers that I've had since the 90's better, but that's just me... Don't get me wrong, this is a nice receiver & the clarity of sound it produces is good on the high & mid side, i just feel that it needs more bass response...

The good: Plenty of HDMI, good sound, app control, fairly straightforward set up, good connectivity The bad: Bluetooth is finicky, HTC connect is useless for me, finding the right sound settings is confusing and required the app, mic calibration did not work well Over all it sounds great has all the connections I needed and was a huge upgrade from a 10 yr old Sony AVR. Great buy for the money but a bit quirky.

I always considered Pioneer when it comes to listening audio or watching movies that is because Pioneer gives more sound fields and tweaking options than any receivers I have owned like Harman/kareon, Denon and Sony This pioneer 5.2 with wifi and bluetooth built right in, its fantastic sounding receiver as always it s a case of Pioneer

Pretty simple to hook up. Used HDMI cables all the way around. Sounds great, you do not have to select what you want to listen to, except when you want to use tuner. It automatically goes to what you what you want to listen to when you turned that object on.

Good sounding and for the most part easy setup. I've owned two previous Pioneer receivers and both have lost the center channel. I thought is was the cleaning lady both times because it happened each time they were there and things were moved around. If I lose it again I may rethink Pioneer.

Unlike most AVRs, this receiver doesn't have a zillion RCA jacks. Instead, it has plenty of HDMI inputs with just the right amount of legacy connectors. The on-screen display is fairly intuitive, but the web-based interface and iOS interfaces are a little glitchy. AirPlay works great!

After my Onkyo system bit the dust, it was time to upgrade and build a nice surround sound system. I went with this midgrade receiver for the price point and the features. It hasn't disapointed. Nice selection of connections on the back, like the fact that I can run a second sub. Setup was easy, wifi is reliable.

This is a nice receiver, but I wish it came with a complete set of instructions. It has a CD instead of a manual, but that doesn't really do me any good. I suppose it has instructions that you can download from the Pioneer website, I just feel like it should have come with a complete manual instead of a quick set up paper. The quick set up paper assumes you're going to be receiving prompts from a tv screen, but I could never get that part of it going. But it is working and working well - i just feel like I'm not getting full use of the unit.

Purchased this receiver because I bought a 4K TV and needed the up scaling aspect since my video and audio run through my receiver for my surround sound and I desired the best picture and sound. Excellent value at $300, I do run two subs so I was excited about the 2 sub ports. Surprisingly with two sub ports this is a 5.2 audio set up and meets my exact needs. However with the market promoting 6.1 and 7.2. It's clear this is a market niche that is fit for those satisfied with 5.1 set ups. I'm very happy with the product and limited the rating to 4 stars do to the limitation of a 5.2 set up as it seems they simply could have offered this product as 6.2 capable product as 6.1 is 10 year old technology 6.1 is offered on other non 4k receivers. If you are happy with a 5 speaker set up this is a great value.

The setup is tedious but the payoff is excellent! I dig the built-in WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities and it sounds amazing. You'll need to manually switch your speakers from "large" to "small" after the initial setup.

I was so nervous about the quality given the lower price range this was in but this is great. Pushes sound very well and has some features I haven't even tapped into yet. A little thinking required for initial setup but after that it's great.

    Good Sound, Terrible Interface

Somebody needs to redesign receiver interfaces, they are terrible. This pioneer receiver sounds great and has all the connections you'll need. If you're looking for a good entry-level 5.1 receiver, this is it (though personally I'd take Denon over this). This receiver has a bunch of "smart" features such as pandora, spotify, etc. It's nice that you don't have to pay extra for wifi, but the actual smart features of this app are absolutely terrible to use without the app, and only marginally better with it. Don't get me wrong, it's not just this receiver, it's all of them. Why are the interfaces for these receivers stuck in the 90's?

Our old Sony d I'd not work and Best Buy recommended this receiver. I need to look at mail ft or a few features but easy set up. Actually had an app on my tablet that did the set up, easy. TI'm will tell but so far so good.
