    This thing is a beast.

Coming from a 7.2 receiver, this thing can handle everything I’ve thrown at it. Currently running a 7.2.4 and it sounds great. Set up was easy and no different than any other receiver. The microphone comes includes for audio calibration. The receiver supports the most current object based audio codecs like Dolby Atmos and dts x. My only complaint is that if nothing is playing it displays a blue screen, which concerns me considering I have an OLED, and on OLEDs the blue pixels tend to degrade first. If they would’ve had a screen saver with a black screen with a moving logo it would’ve been better. Overall high recommended.

I like the ease of use and solid performance of this unit. However, I am experiencing connectivity issues with other HDMI devices and there remotes or on screen functions. Ive tried toggling this feature on and off to no avail. I like and want the ability to control all devices with one remote. Frustrating, otherwise a solid unit with big sound. A minor detail that can be addressed with an update I hope. Happy listening!!

I will preface this review by saying the Pio has amazing sound. Whether it was two-channel stereo or watching a 4K bluray, there was never a lack of power or poor SQ. I bi-amped it into two CM10s. Surround speakers were CM6s and the center is a HTM62. The Pio handled them wonderfully, the sound was crystal clear and powerful. But, now the bad: The software was buggy, and there were several times when the unit froze up and I had to pull the plug. Streaming from Deezer, Tidal, and Qobuz using DTS PlayFi or the built in media app was terrible. For some reason the receiver would default to 11 channel stereo everytime I tried to stream using the DTS PlayFi app. I could not find a way to change it to stereo, and it is suggested in the manual that there is no adjustment of sound modes with PlayFi streams. Really frustrating. I also discovered that the PlayFi downsampled anything HiRes to 16-44, which kind of kills the purpose of having the hi-res plan through Tidal or Qobuz. I took the receiver back and returned it, just too many software issues and the streaming aspects of the unit left much to be desired.

    Better than the Pioneer SC-87???

After years of trying audio receivers from Sony and other manufacturers I decided I wanted the Very Best, Because I got So Tired of messing with the volume going up and down always had to have my finger on the remote volume switch to adjust it. So I first purchased the SC-87 which I Really Had a LOT of Problems With, ironically with the Audio either not coming on at all, No Video, or BOTH. There was also this strange Blips of No Audio that would last for about a second every 30 seconds or so. So after Sending my SC-87 in for repair About 6 or 7 Times, each time taking anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks to get back. Repair Shop said they replaced the HDMI card multiple times, so something must have been causing it to fry? Best Buy's Geek Squad FINALLY ended up "Junking it Out". I had to add about $250, the difference in Price for this Pioneer - Elite 1800W 9.2-Ch Model: SCLX801 SKU: 5453800 Which was the closest unit "Spec-Wise" to my Junked SC-87. I really hope that this SCLX801 is a LOT BETTER, but I have not been able to connect it up yet because I've had some health problems and can't install it quite yet. From other reviews I've read on this Model, Fingers Crossed, I will LOVE it!

Only used for a brief time and has lived up to my expectations thus far for the high price ($1500+). Easy to program/setup & hook up.... And many more pros! Only Con is clicking sound when changing inputs & especially when changing cable channels to select different programs. It is bothersome & hopefully will be able to find fix or method to suppress or eliminate.

The reciever has all the great features along with enough power to fill the room, wether you are listen to music or watching a movie. Second Pioneer Elite I have had and this is a reason to buy another when it is time for an upgrade, but that will be a long ways away.

I dont know which one is worse, the price or the sound? Honestly this thing is 2000$ but i have an old Yamaha unit bought in 2002 for 500$ at that time .....and it sounds way better than this so i,m just wondering, either for the fact it has blue tooth and HDMI i would have kept my old receiver. This thing is more Hype than its sound. Wouldn't recommend unit for 2000$ i,m just being honest.

This receiver goes one (maybe two) better than the SC 99. The chief benefit is that it has 5 HDCP 2.2 compliant HDMI 2.0 inputs. The set-up using the on-screen menu is very complete and makes the room calibration straight forward. However, you may find it necessary to re-calibrate a few times to get everything perfect. The audio (Atmos/DTS-X) seemed to function well. The Ap makes seeing what's going on more intuitive. Video processing is what you would expect for equipment at this price point. Overall, I'd recommend this unit. Match it with the Oppo UDP-203 and a really good OLED TV and you're there....

    An excellent mid-range receiver

I bought this unit to replace a receiver made by another manufacturer. Setup was very easy, due in part to the outstanding GUI. The MCACC auto tune feature works very well, better than the AccuEQ used in some other AV receivers: it runs ten separate tests from one position, rather than requiring one to put the setup microphone in eight different positions while running the same test over and over. There are enough surround programs to satisfy anyone, offering good spatial effects and fine L-R separation on the front channels. The video processing is also outstanding. The remote is smaller than any others that I have used, and allows easy selection of sources and sound modes. In addition, this unit does NOT get hot, so no cooling fan is required. All in all, as good a unit as one can find for a reasonable price. By the way, it is virtually the same as the higher priced SC-LX901, since it has two fewer built-in amps. Add an external two-channel power amp to get the same performance as the -901 at lower cost.

I had high hopes for this receiver. After using it for a month it has exceeded my expectations. Easy to set up and use. Easy to fine tune manually to my liking. It found all my other equipment and knows intuitively what to do. Very impressed.
