Pioneer - Built like a tank

After 32 years I finally decided it was time to replace my VSX-4500. It has served me well, but I just upgraded to a 4K smart TV and it was a logical companion upgrade to get the most functionality out of it. Setup has certainly become more involved over the years and it took me about three days to get everything set up to my liking, but now that it is, wow, am I impressed. My lone quibble is the lack of in-depth setup information, which is why I docked one star. The setup sheet seemed picture- reliant and didn't do a lot of explaining.
I researched this head-to-head against the equivalent priced Yamaha, Denon, and Sony units. Then I listened to them in-store and the Pioneer stood out from the group in sonic quality, which is always the primary goal. I went in with the intention of buying the Yamaha based on the better THD numbers, but the Pioneer sounded better IMO. I like the multi-room setup and the phone app is great too. Hopefully this one lasts 32 years like the last one!

From the reviews I thought I'd give this Amplifier a chance and so glad I did. Very easy to set up and use, sounds fantastic. I am replacing a Bose system that stopped working, and so glad I went with this Pioneer.

I had such luck with my first Pioneer Elite, I bought another for my basement family room. Love this receiver. It does everything I want and hopefully won't be outdated in two - five years. Hah!

I have some Klipsch tower speakers also the book shelves and polk subwoofer and center. i guess does the job. But i can`t get over for how slow the internet works on this thing....or the mirroring. I gave it 4/5 stars cause does the job in the end....but like a poor interface for 2017 and slow internet apps makes me want something else. Again i don`t know much about audio systems i just went out and bought this....and if you are like me i would try something else like a Denon.

This has all the features of more experience models. 2 HDMI and 12v triggers were a must for my system and this delivered with high quality sound and video processing.

I love the ease of setting it up and that I can finally run my Xbox One through it for some rich intense gaming! There is little lag time in the blue tooth between cuts on my iPhone but the sound is rich! A great receiver for the money!

Receiver connected to Samsung 4K TV and 1080P projector. Initially, had trouble producing 4K video output using Apple 4K TV. Manual not helpful. After experimenting with the settings, was finally able to get it right. If you connect this receiver using 2 hdmi outputs, you must disable dual hdmi pass through to produce 4K video to your 4K video source. The sound quality has extra punch. Never realized the potential of my Polk tower speakers until I tried to use bi-amped connection. I dont need 7.1 sound set-up afterall. Loved listening to accoustic music with this receiver.

Sound and function is great with my home theater and it offers you a multitude of speaker set ups to choose from so you’re covered even if you don’t have a complete surround sound system. The directions for accessing the zone 2 via remote control is extremely confusing and it took me half a day to figure out that to control zone 2 (outside speakers) on my remote I had to hold down a button for a couple of seconds to access the secondary function of another button. I even had a sound system professional helping me and he couldn’t figure it out. The directions are buried and you had to find the exact page. Other than the learning curve due to poorly written instruction manual, the system is great and works with plenty of inputs.

Only problem I have is when using ARC the system sometimes doesn't automatically switch, and bluetooth mutes momentarily every now and then! Sound quality is very good!

I am quite happy with the functioning of this unit. It supports 7.2, internet activity, and it does it with about 100 watts per channel. I had a few problems with set up; mostly finding the ways to control things. The basic manual outlined the installation well, but the more advanced manual to describe things like making presets was not available. I contacted Pioneer (which did not list the manual for this unit) but they did not respond. Too bad, as the unit is quite impressive so far.

not sure what to say, gone are the simple days of hard wire and making a couple component connections, these new things are quite complicated, it's a 7.2 with a ton of connection points, it takes some time to figure it out, speaker wire, optical cable, HDMI, RCA cables, etc., only concern is the overwhelming lack of clarity in the owners manual, as with so many products - they need to get a "user" to review and help write these manuals, they are written by tech head experts that already understand everything so things that they assume everyone knows are left out, as for operation - it works great

The receiver produces great sound for movies and television. However, the network function is atrocious. I have mine connected to my network via wifi, which functioned perfectly with my previous Denon receiver, supports my connected home, and works perfectly with wireless internet/TV. However, this receiver will only stay connected, such as while streaming internet music with services such a Pandora, for a limited amount of time before cutting in and out and finally putting up an error message saying its unable to connect to the network and I should check the cable. Customer support told me to unplug it and plug it back in, thanks. After my issues I read numerous reviews and see I'm not the onlyones with the issue. I finally purchased a Google audio cast to bypass the network function of the receiver and it works perfectly(so its clearly not my router as Best Buy suggested).
