We could never get sound out of this model. It was a reconditioned item but we had to return it because we just couldn't make it work.

    Great Unit Easy Setup

Purchased unit just before Christmas for my wife and I in our condo. I had bought the Sony's top 55 inch with 3D tech and my older Yamaha 1080p AV Receiver did not have 4k, 4k upscale or 3D passthrough like the Pioneer. I was already familiar with the included microphone to setup the EQ and levels of the Dolby 5.1 speakers like the Yamaha. I also purchased Samsung's best UHD 4k 3D DVD player from Best Buy for the updates I wanted. Keep in mind that my quality JBL speakers are an older 5.1 surround system bought from Best Buy approximately 10 years old but still a great system with an upgraded JBL LPE subwoofer. After setup my wife and I watched the latest Star Trek movie in 4k HDR. AMAZING... I didn't even watch in 3D and the colors were vibrant and sometimes seems to be in 3D the way the camera panned around. Sound was amazing as it placed you in the scene. Highly recommend.

In an Elite of It's Own!

This is a pretty standard entry, Elite, receiver. This is paired with Klipsch Icon setup. The MCACC could be more advance then what it is. As for Manual MCACC you either really have to know how to setup your channels or do a web search for a pre-exiting setup from users with more expensive Elite's that have a more elaborate MCACC setup. One more thing, you must use the iControlAV5 App in order to get features that should be on your remote. In particular the Finger EQ!! Once setup correctly (something like a U shaped curve) does the speakers really come alive and you can turn the volume down to around -50 to -60 something. Finger EQ: 3 green dots staggered at the top left. 3 Blue staggered at the bottom. 3 purple staggered at the right top. Shape each color group like steps to get an idea. Then tweak from there. Another thing is to use the Player within iControlAV5 when playing music from your phone/Pad/Tablet. It will sound a whole lot better.. Also, the app called AV Navigator App is for iPad only (at the time of this writing). Which offers better MCACC control options. But overall I would give it 5 stars if they could incorporate FingerEQ (along with some other features) into the receiver itself with at least 2 memory save function. I'm tired of having to use my phone to start up the iControlAV5 App in order to get the sound I want a lower numeric values on the receiver. If you go to System Setup-> Audio Adjust you will actually see the FingerEQ Icon pictured within the Speaker Icon but is mysteriously absent as a selectable feature unless you use the app!!! After reading this you would thing I would ding 2-3 stars but I really do enjoy the sound quality. Current built in features are adequate but there is definite need for improvements there. Yes, I would still recommend this product but with the obvious catches.

Very good entry level or second room receiver

We watch a good bit of TV/movies in the bedroom. Wanted an Atmos system so added the two height speakers and started looking for a receiver. After a bit of research decided on the Pioneer Elite line. Was between the 101 and the 301. Decided that I really did not need to upscaling feature as the TV did a great job of that. Setup was a breeze and the sound is very full, dynamic and pleasing for a small room. Using it with the DefTech ProCinema 800 system (added two matching speakers for the Atmos height speakers). Atmos definitely makes an audible difference. Have it in the main theater room and it really adds a new sonic dimension. Would recommend for the applications noted: small room or secondary unit (bedroom, etc).

I came into my local Magnolias store looking to purchase another receiver and was offered this item as an open box. I hadn't done much review on it, but the price was unbeatable!!!! I was amazed by the dynamic sound, but since I was looking for a zone 2, I purchased the other receiver to test out as well. The difference was night and day. the LX is powerful with crisp/clear sound and easy setup. Best receiver in the price range below $500. It's so good, I would turn around and buy it at full price if I had to!

Stopped working after just 4 months

I purchased this receiver in February, and was very happy with the sound quality. Until today, when it froze up and stopped working completely. I have tried all reset options, unfortunately none worked. So now I have to deal with the manufacturer, since it is outside 15 day window. Too bad this is called an "ELITE" product.
