This is the first of many of the planet of the apes movie series, and the best of the movie made 30 years ago.

...It was a revelation. The makeup was featured in a variety of magazines (remember those?) and even now it still looks good. Oh, I know...CGI. No thanks. It has it's place but this film, with Charlton Heston is still fantastic and the sets, makeup and cast all hold up well with the passing of five + decades. Worth the price of admission, especially since you will own it and can watch it when you want to. No buffering. No download. No waiting. No kidding.

We are just trying to upgrade our vhs collection. Very happy with the price.

An astronaut crew crash lands on a planet in the distant future where intelligent talking apes are the dominant species, and humans are the oppressed and enslaved. But there's a deep hidden secret that only a few of the apes are aware of. Some spectacular footage, & not to spoil it for you in case you haven't seen the movie, but the scene along the coast will have you in awe and thinking !! Marvelous cast includes Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowall, Kim Hunter, James Whitmore. A must see movie that will have you wondering.....what if ??

I have been looking for this for years. Just as I remembered it

DVD is sold at a good price (great value) for a classic film.

This version had many things to recommend it that the Tim Burton version did not: An intelligent plot. OK, that was one thing. Still, just that one thing alone is enough to make it a great movie, whereas the remake's complete lack of decent plot made it well, typical of Tim Burton. But enough about that steaming pile. This version, even with its somewhat stilted dialog and 60s style special effects, was a great movie, complete with action, drama, adventure, and plot twists enough to keep your interest from beginning to end.

really a must have movie, have to bench watch all!

I fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it back on TV, so glad when it got released on Blu Ray. This movie is way better than any of the other Planet of the Apes movies made recently. Despite not having the technological advancements in cinematography, for a movie from 1968 it is well acted, the costumes were awesome and plot was outstanding. You just can't capture the greatness of this movie, no matter how many times you try to remake it. If you have seen the remakes, you owe it to yourself to check what started it all.

I would like to let any readers know that this is not a completely new transfer for the 50th anniversary. It is the same as has been around for 10 years. The good news is that the transfer is still fantastic for being 10 years old and for a movie of that age. The special features are plentiful and interesting for fans of the film. If the price is right, this is one of those classic films that I would even suggest for somebody who'd never seen it.

What's to say that hasn't already been said about this classic. The new ape films do not replace it but is a great companion piece to them. Without Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowall, and Maurice Evans the story and prosthetics would have no soul. The special features are a nice bonus for anyone looking into how this strange film came about in the late 1960's. The full HD presentation brings this world to life nicely.
