Not my favorite war movie from the 80's. It is a good movie though. The quality for the video and audio is exceptional for this Blu Ray.

    One Great Vietnam Movie

Oliver Stone's "Platoon" is one of the best and most powerful of all war pictures. It is the best movie ever made about the Vietnam war. Stone's film is gritty, frighteningly realistic and incredibly powerful. Stone doesn't just show us the Vietnam war, he takes into the Vietnam war. The screenplay is brilliant and doesn't fall into the trap that other war films fall into, where the violence turns into a fun experience and fighting seems "cool." This is a movie that truly shows the horrors of war realistically and with great effect. The cinematography by Robert Richardson (JFK, Natural Born Killers) is rich and gritty, giving more feeling to already great material. The characters are believable and convincing. It's great work because Stone himself went to Vietnam, so he has a better idea of what happened than Francis Ford Coppola when he made "Apocalypse Now" (which is also a great movie). "Platoon" is mesmerizing, powerful, effective, disturbing and even philosophical. It is one of Stone's greatest works. He ignites the screen with passion. The music is incredibly moving. No other director has made better films about Vietnam than Stone, who's "Born On The Fourth Of July" and "Heaven And Earth" followed "Platoon," and opened our eyes to greater clarity. I was never less than spellbound by this work. "Platoon" vibrates with realism and energy. A very special motion picture

This video, which I originally saw on the big screen many years ago, should be viewed by anyone who would really like to comprehend how war can shock the system to its core ... how PTSD is created and how why it is so devastating to our being. The psychological profession calls PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder, but I think that it should more aptly be called "post traumatic shock syndrome" because it is in reality created by a shock to the heart, which causes a lasting image by our judgment of what happened at the time by the incident that occurred. This video, Platoon, apply portrays how and why so many of our brave men and women came home with such devastating memories of the war. And it is still happening today in Afghanistan. We need to have understanding and compassion, and this video should help us to see why these things happen.

Best Release of Stone's Award Winning War Movie

This best picture winning 1987 Vietnam film shouldn't need much of an introduction--it's excellent. This steelbook release from Shout Factory is the best version of this film currently on home media boasting a 4k restoration that shows significant improvement over the previous release that is now a bargain blu ray title. All of the special features from the previous release are carried over and, personally I think the artwork on the steelbook is fantastic. If you care about having the best presentation of a given film, this is the version to have, if you are penny pinching stick with the other release. Either way you are getting a classic film.

The 4K Update has pumped new life into this classic. It was close to seeing it like the first time with the color and sound Update adds way more to viewing. The only thing is that Chalie Sheen is kind hard to take serious in this role as that his current roles make him feel cheesey in this role, but do watch it for the other actors and the 4K 4K upgrade.

One of the best Nam films ever made. Having served there, reminded me of the senselessness of the war and all the tragedy created for a people who you just could not trust to start with. Politicians sons and daughters should always be the first one's sent into war, especially that one!

Platoon is a movie set in the Vietnam era the movie starts out telling the story of a Young Man arriving in Vietnam and his experiences while he was there. The movie is full of drama suspense and excitement from start to finish. The realistic scenes and backdrop make you feel like you was there. The story of a young man and his experiences make you feel the sympathy pride and understanding we should all have for Vietnam veterans

I bought this movie, hoping to share it with my students during our Vietnam War unit. It amazes me how many 11th grade students don't know that much about this war...yet they have a relative (usually a grandfather or older uncle) who served and is unwilling/unable to talk about their experiences. We must never forget those who served, and those KIA or MIA.

I am hoping for this movie to hit 4k with Atmos audio one say. For now, this is one of the best-looking 1080 transfers I have ever seen. The plot and acting are compelling. This is a must watch.

People don't know it, but this is the 4k transfer of this movie. It was shot on 35mm in 1986. That's why it looks so nice for such an old movie. Also, being steenbook makes this a collectors piece. Get it before it's gone.

I have always loved this picture since my first viewing over 20 yrs. ago. The transfer on this bluray is excellent and is definitely a step up from the dvd. The music and sound are excellent as well. And the extras are worth the time to view. All in all, I highly recommend this bluray.

Saw this movie when it came out at the theaters in 1987. Still love it after all these years and has become a classic. Gripping, devastating and quite emotional film from Oliver Stone based on his own experiences in the war. Collectible steelbook packaging is a plus!

One of my top 3 favorite war movies. Fantastic job at creating a very realistic film. They a fantastic job at portraying what our vet’s truly went through during that merciless horrific war we should of never been involved with.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's watching WWII movies. At the time Platoon came out I looked down upon this film as purely anti-Vietnam. However, now I like it considerably more. The experience of Vietnam was a painful time. This movie helps you better understand what the American soldier went through and the 'grays ' of war as opposed to simply the black and white. You really sympathize with the Charlie Sheen character who, in essence, is Oliver Stone. Acting is superb throughout.

I’m not sure what more I can add to what has already been said about this film. If you haven’t seen this film, you should. There are many anti-war films and this isn’t a new message but this is one of the better films of this type that have been made.

Like Coppola before him, Stone went all in on trying to capture the horrors of the Vietnam war. Stone's time at war is more than present and allows it to stand up as a sort of companion to Apocalypse Now. The actors do a great job of inhabiting the reality Stone wanted us all to see.

This classic makes me feel like I am there with them. The cinematography, acting, location, and special effects make "Platoon" an unforgettable experience. The emotions, tension, humor, uneasy relationships, tragedy, and physical pain reaches beyond the screen. It yanks you in and doesn't let go until the very end.
