SSD not SSHD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This drive was a great addition to my storage and helps me manage better. Much faster than a regular drive and less power. The price on sale was great and bought at the store. This is not a hybrid drive rather all solid state meaning just memory chips. Hybrid drives are a combo of both a traditional hard drive with memory to speed up the I/O to the final storage on the disks. Yes you get more space with a SSHD but slower speeds. Your time is worth the extra cost!

Unsure
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought a new laptop and had the Geek Squad install the new hard drive. Laptop would not boot and they had to give me a new computer. Not sure if the issue was with the hard drive, computer, or how it was installed.

get what you pay for
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.while at first this was a good deal per the price compared to what the other brands had at the time I soon found out that this was possibly the worst quality i have seen from pny and was disappointing at best since it ran buggy and started to corrupt operating system data. when I tried to disconnect the hard drive the sata port snapped off with little effort. so over all i would recommend spending the extra scratch on samsung.

Great drive for the price. Easy upgrade.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have the 480 gb in my HP 2-in-1, and the 960gb in my old gaming laptop. For the price-per-gb on an SSD, this is a really good deal, even without the sale price. Performance wise, there are better options out there. Installation in my 2-in-1 and in my gaming laptop was pretty straightforward. The hard part was opening up the netbook since it had to be completely taken apart and had no access panel, but youtube was very helpful with that. Once I had it open, it's pretty much just plug-n-play. Ideally you'll want to just do a fresh OS install, and mount your old drive in an external enclosure to copy your old files over and use for extra storage. Pick up a USB thumb drive if you don't have a DVD drive. All versions of windows can be downloaded for free from Microsoft. You'll need an activation code to validate though. Just type in all zeroes if you don't have an activation code. Windows 10 doesn't have the annoying windows activation popups found in previous versions, you just can't right click the desktop to change the background image unless you have a valid activation key. You'll have to right click an image and set it as your wallpaper from there. Most pre-built systems have an activation key sticker on them somewhere. If you can't find a sticker, and you're a smart person with access to google, you can probably find a way to recover your current activation key. If you prefer to have all of your old programs and settings, just on the newer drive, and not have to go through the whole setup process, you'll still need an external drive enclosure to clone your old drive to the new one, unless you have room for two hard drives. In the instructions with this drive you'll find a free product key for a hard drive utility. Follow the instructions there to do a complete clone of your hard drive. You'll need to make sure the entire drive image is cloned over, not just copied, otherwise you'll have problems booting into windows, and you'll need to load up a windows installation disk to load up into boot recovery mode. If you're having trouble with the included software, there's plenty of other free options available that will do the trick like "clonezilla". Either way, before you pull your old drive out, make sure you have the following. 1: New Hard drive 2: Windows installation drive, for installing windows, or recovering boot manager, either on DVD or USB thumb drive. 3: External hard drive connector or enclosure so you can clone your old hard drive, or copy over important files, and to use the old drive as external storage/backup 4: Your windows activation key. If you're going from an old-style hard DISK, you will notice a MASSIVE improvement in load times of windows and all of your programs. It will make your computing experience overall snappier. This is a great upgrade to breath new life into an aging computer as long as you don't have too many other limiting factors. If you're just looking to upgrade from a smaller SSD, the performance of this drive can be a little underwhelming. The drive is lighter in weight than a traditional hard disk, has no moving parts, so you don't have to worry about your disk headers crashing from bumps and bangs. There's a 3 year warranty, the manufacture doesn't specify any limitations on this drive as far as maximum program/erase cycles. Generally SSDs have a limited number of read/writes they can perform before they start to give up and become unreliable. As long as you're not writing 100gb/day to this drive, you shouldn't have to worry about it not lasting the 3 years. Everyday users who don't do a whole lot of file transfers could expect to get 5-7 years out of their drives. If you have important files though, it's always a good idea to do regular backups. It's definitely worth picking up one of these drives, especially when they go on sale. Pricing at BestBuy with this particular product is often competitive with online retailers, sometimes cheaper, especially when you factor in the cost of shipping.

Horrible decision
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The speed was garbage and the build was just as bad. it crashed within 2 months and to top it off the sata connector snapped off when removing the hard drive to replace it. just as a back ground im no newbie in tech I have been building and repairing computers and electronics for about 10 years now.

Dont waste your money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Drive failed after 4 months and PNY support is virtually non existant. Tried to fill out a RMA on the PNY web site and that gives you an error. I guess I need to stick with Crucial and Samsung SSDs. Hav'nt had an issue with either.

The simplest way to transfer from HDD to SDD!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did plenty of research on how to clone my HDD (300GB) to this SSD (480GB) and this is what I chose. I chose it because of the value: @ $110 for 480GB, it was the least expensive option. Also, it comes with a key code for ACRONIS migration software, which made this clone process seamless. It was truly easy! Anyone could do it. Just follow the instructions. I get 233/224mb read/write speeds on my 8 year old PC, compared to 95/81 on the previous HDD. My PC now boots up in 1 minute, compared to 5+ before! I definitely recommend!

Solid drive for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have two of these drives in my computer and use them to keep my general computing on flash based primarily. I have some bulk storage using three 3TB SATA3 drives for my movies and TV shows. While these are not the fastest SSD drives available on the SATA3 standard let alone the available PCIe drives they are very cost effective and fast enough. They are also pretty reliable. I have had the first SSD drive for a little over a year now with zero issues.

Fantastic Value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great drive for the money (when on sale). I replaced a 512GB 5400 RPM HDD from my wife's 2011 13" MacBook Pro with this one and the drive gave the MacBook a new lease on life. The speed improvement was much more dramatic than increasing the RAM from 4GB to 8GB, which I did about 6 months ago. Boot up time is reduced dramatically, as well as responsiveness when opening/closing applications and general usage.

Excellent Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would highly recommend this product. Acronis disk cloning software which comes with this SSD is best. Very easy to use. I had earlier purchased Samsung SSD but disk cloning did not work with the software provided by Samsung. The cloning took just 1 hour to complete and I just removed HDD and installed the PNY SSD and it worked. The computer is very fast. I am extremely happy with the purchase.

A Great Drive at Any Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really a great drive. I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10 and needed a larger SSD to get the additional space. The hardware was an easy replacement. Included is disk cloning software. All you need is to buy the drive to upgrade to a larger SSD. No additional software needed like with other replacement drives. I recommend the drive with top honors. It is very fast.

PNY meets Kubuntu
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this to put in my HP laptop so I could dual boot Kubuntu with Win10. The price that it's on sale for it's well worth picking up a couple of them! I personally have already made the transition to SSD's when my mechanical drives start failing. The cost you can find them for now is worth the gains in speed and lower power consumption.

Quick and reliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this after my HDD crashed with all my videos and pictures. No moving parts and this SSD is priced well enough to finally make the switch to them. Just wish I had done it sooner though. Don't make the same mistake I did. Back up your videos and pictures in multiple places including one of these drives.

Great SSD at a great price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my Game SSD, I also have a PNY Prevail for my Windows drive. PNY is rivaling Samsung in speed and IOPS, I can't say if the life will be the same as Samsung, but nonetheless this drive is very quick.

Amazing Hard Drive Replacement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My thought process prior to buying an SSD was that the price was too high, now however after buying one, that opinion quickly changed. $100 for a 480 GB the day I bought it, which caught my eye and after debate, I figured it was worth trying. I immediately swapped my hard drive out of my laptop the day I bought it, set the SSD up which was easy, installed my OS and I was amazed at how much faster my laptop ran. What used to take 20-30 seconds to boot up now takes less than 5 seconds, 3 at most. Never going to use a regular hard drive again for anything but backups and storage, SSD's are great and I am more inclined to buy them at normal price now thanks to the experience I had. Highly recommend trying it if you love speed.
