I played and loved Pokémon Red / Blue / Yellow on the original Gameboy decades ago, and followed the series through the Nintendo 64 days. I dabbled here and there since then, but always wished for a full Pokémon game on a big screen with high production values. I’m happy to finally have that in Pokémon Sword / Shield. Being able to play on the TV but still take it on the go to trade and battle with friends is as fun as I’d hoped. The gameplay is intuitive, full of tricks and secrets, and fluid, and I enjoy exploring the world to find new Pokémon. The story is lighthearted and encourages a sense of adventure, and the small details sprinkled throughout (especially the expressions and movements of the Pokémon) are things I’ve dreamed about since I was little. It may not be the most graphically advanced or content-packed game on the market, but there’s more than enough to hold my interest. Growing up is hard, but Pokémon Sword helps me feel like a kid again in all the best ways.

Don't give into the negativity around this game. At it's core, this is an incredibly fun generation of the Pokemon series. The game features beautiful villages, great new pokemon, and a large 'Wild Area' where dozens of different pokemon and trainers roam free.

This game have evolved so much since the beginning and it still has the same charm, but with better graphics. Great introduction for the newer generation to experience the game. Excellent story and open world environment.

So you know what to expect, but there's a lot of missed opportunity, I think. It's the best it's ever looked, yet it took a few steps back. My biggest issue is... it's just too easy. You used to need to know or learn type differences to determine what would be "Super Effective" or not, but now the moves themselves tell you right in the selection screen if they will be effective or not. If you want to push yourself, you might find a nice challenge, but it blockades any reward for your efforts. If you fight a high-level Pokémon, throw your whole party at weakening it, and throw a quality Pokéball, you'll be flat-out rejected from catching it. If you don't have the right number of gym badges, you can't catch a Pokémon. Period. It's more classic Pokémon fun on the big screen but the game shows how little the series has (no pun intended) evolved, and it took some frustrating steps back.

We finally have a mainline pokemon game on a console. The open world area is fantastic making the pokemon feel like wildlife and not random monsters. In addition there are no more random battles, all pokemon appear on the field. There is still "long grass" that hides pokemon that will not regularly appear in the field so there is still a nod to the old games there. This is also a great game for first time pokemon fans, since it isn't burdened with all of the existing pokemon, it makes a great time to jump in fresh.

I have enjoyed playing these games since launch day. There’s a lot to do and see with an excellent story that was told throughout the games. I definitely recommend the games if you’re a true Pokémon fan and doesn’t care about certain Pokémon missing. This wasn’t a deal breaker. My time in Galar has been fun and look forward to the replay value it provides! Love, love, love me some Sword and Shield.

I saw the New Gen Pokemon before buying this game and thought that I would not like the game before playing it. However, after seeing previews of the open world aspect of the game, I decided to give the game a shot. I freaking love this game! I grew to like the new Pokemon, I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and, after beating the game, the open world keeps me coming back while allowing me to play with other people across the world. Pokemon Sword might be my favorite Pokemon game (close to Ruby).

Been a fan of Pokemon since I bought Blue and haven't stopped. Enjoyed the story, gameplay and new pokemon. They even added a little open world section that allows you to battle giant pokemon. As much as i loved it, I did have a few issues. The game has everyone's lips moving while they're talking but there is no voice acting. It feels like its incomplete when you have someone giving a huge speech in a stadium yet there is no voices to be heard. Also leveling up and progressing have been simplified to the level where you don't really need to grind anymore. I still enjoyed both games even with these faults.

For the first time we have mainline core Pokemon games that you can play right on the TV in your living room. Solid game play with familiar elements from past games in the series, as well as new ones. This new iteration brings mainly welcomed quality of life improvements. Interesting story, and a great game for returning fans of the series. Also good for newcomers as well!

    Best Pokemon game so far!

Can't say I recommend the double pack unless you're buying for two people, but the gameplay is great, the graphics are amazing, and Dynamax is a way better gimmick than z-moves and mega evolution. Dynamax feels like something you can use to turn a losing battle around at any point with any pokemon, not something that you have to prep and optimize your team for beforehand. This games biggest flaws come from sticking to the pokemon formula. The story is still lackluster at best, and they chose not to use voice acting for the characters, which is bizarre, given how much effort they put into animating the characters moving and talking. The battle tower and pvp for the post game is great so far, but I hope they add more options to it in the future. Right now there's only single battles with 3 pokemon, and double battles with 4 pokemon. Those are good numbers for core teams, but more options would be nice, especially for the unranked casual battles. Some people are upset about them not having all of the pokemon available, but honestly I had given up on anything pokedex related since 4th gen. At least it's more accessible for everyone who didn't save their old handhelds now.

While my initial expectations were low due to the controversies surrounding this game upon announcement, I'm proud to say it makes some positive strives and sets a solid foundation for subsequent pokemon releases in the future. The story is rather short, but I have always been more intrigued in the gameplay anyways. The Wild Area is especially exceptional and a modern take on the pokemon series that I hope the developers continue to use in the future. Oh, and the pokemon coin collectible it comes with is pretty cool.

It's a great game and very beginner friendly. Sword and Shield follow the same formula as each other Pokémon, but lean heavily into Sun and Moon as well as the Let's Go games. Training is easy, the is the occasional challenging fight, and 400 Pokémon to catch will keep any game occupied long enough to enjoy the full Pokémon experience.

This double-pack embraces the spirit of Pokemon as a shared experience. Not only does it include a copy of both versions (necessary to complete your Pokedex!), but also has codes to get special versions of Pokemon much earlier than you could normally do so in the game. My review of the game itself: As someone who grew up with the Pokemon franchise, I couldn't be more pleased with Sword/Shield. The game maintains everything that has made the series what it is today, while also boldly pushing into new territory. There are many quality of life changes that I didn't know I needed, but that I was very pleased to see. The structure of the game allows you to build more diverse teams early on, while also allowing players to quickly get a new roster up to speed with far less grinding. In essence, it pushes away the tedium and allows you to get right into the core of the fun that Pokemon has always had on offer. If you haven't played a Pokemon game in a while, I recommend giving this one a shot. It grows the franchise in some very important ways and offers an experience that is at once fresh and familiar.

Getting past the Pokemon that are not in the game, Sword and Shield are two of the finest entries in the Pokemon series. The new Pokemon are fresh and unique, some of the new features add a welcomed modern feel to what was becoming an aging franchise, and the game graphically is absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommended!!!

    The greatest 3D Pokemon Game

In terms of just the 3D games, this is the greatest they have ever made. With the advancements of a home console, it shows in Pokemon designs and details to character models. The story is basically the same standard story of a Pokemon game, but people do not usually play these games for that reason. It is about catching the Pokemon. This newest generation has some of the greatest Pokemon designs I have seen in a long time, there was not one Pokemon I looked at and said "oh, well that's lame". Every Pokemon was incredible. Finally, the Wild Area. This is the greatest part of this game. The raid battles are highly addictive and the ability to just ease in and out of these battles are fantastic. Especially since you can join with randoms or friends through the Y-comm, this games take on the internet service. Eventually, these raid battles get HARD. Hard to the point where AI's will not be enough. You WILL need to play with other human characters for those tougher raid battles. Also, just like Pokemon Go raids, it is not an instant catch, so keep that in mind when selecting a certain ball to use.

This is the first time in a while I've played a Pokemon game. I didn't expect much from this one considering the initial complaints. But there's a lot to do and for those who like the older generation games, many older generation Pokemon are in this game too. I recommend this game

Despite the bad Rep this game has gotten, it is sooooooo much fun especially when you get into the Max Raid battles. You can just log in so many hours doing that alone. The only issue I have is if you didn’t buy both versions, like I did, completing the Dex becomes difficult because there is no longer a GTS, so surprise trade away and hopefully you get the version exclusives. The story, overall, was quick but fun and the scenery was beautiful.

Enjoying the game and I can't wait to see it all. Sure the news about not all Pokemon being in the game bums me but I knew it would come eventually. Fortunately, it happened with a good game to cover up the flaws. I may have to buy the online membership just to enjoy all the features.

Saved some money on buying the combo than individual games and got some cool extras for the pre sale purchase. Overall games are amazing big fan but packaging in this go around with it being exclusive on the switch was alot better.
