The quality of the picture is great, knowing it's protected in a steelbook also makes me happy. On my way to collecting the rest of these Blu-ray and their Steelbooks.

I've yet to watch a Studio Ghibli movie that I don't like. The movie has great action and humor as well as being set in what i find to be a very interesting interwar period between WW1 and WW2. If your a fan of Studio Ghibli give this one a try.

This movie has a little bit for every age group. The humor in the conversations is subtle. I really liked that there were independent, strong minded women characters that actively contributed to resolving conflicts in the plot.

Michael Keaton delivers a great charming performance as Porco Rosso and Miyazaki’s direction and art studio deliver beautiful visuals and a cute story.

You would not expect a lead cursed man turned pig would work, but the human emotions which come across make the story touching on many levels.

During the first few minutes of "Porco Rosso", I was thinking, 'okay, this is.....different. It's good but I don't think it's exactly gonna be "Spirited Away" or "Naussicaa"'. I should have known better. It IS different, it's not "Spirited Away" or any other Ghibli movie before or since, but it is, in its own bizarre way, just as good. Studio Ghibli seems to be incapable of delivering anything short of true excellence. The title character is a grumpy bipedal pig who flies a World War I-era airplane in the Mediterranean in the years between the two world wars. Once human, Porco has adopted an air of disinterested apathy to cover his feelings, but he finds himself drawn to a group of people in Italy after his plane is shot down by a rival pilot, rendering Porco unable to make a living protecting transport and passenger ships from pirates - some of the most gloriously incompetent pirates imaginable, by the way. "Porco Rosso' is suitable viewing for the kiddies but may be, in general, enjoyed more by an older audience - in addition to the soaring air battles and action-packed climax, there's plenty of romance, dry humor, and subtle political commentary. Regardless, it has the Ghibli charm, and is likely to have something for almost everyone. A truly one-of-a-kind movie (ask youself this: when was the last time you saw a movie about a trenchcoat, goggles and fedora-wearing pig piloting a brightly painted red airplane and fighting sky pirates?) and another jewel in the glorious Ghibli crown.

Always always love this movie. Great price. Cool case. Good service. Couldnt ask for anything better.

This is a not well not movie, it should be. If you like howls moving, or spirited away this is up your alley.

All of the Studio Ghibli movies are great in their own ways, this one is about a pilot who fights sky pirates and, in spite of having looks that suggest he’s a upright walking pig rather than a person, somehow has a way with women...mostly by not trying. A lot of the story revolves around flying and the freedom that provides for one man whose looks might be odd, but whose skills are unmatched except by one American hotshot flyer, and that’s debatable. With this one you have dogfights, fistfights, gambling for the fate of a young ladies hand in marriage, and a nice old timer style and class. Now for what it’s not, it’s not the best of the Studio Ghibli movies, for me that’s either Spirited Away or The Cat Returns, both of those have an otherworldly nature that grabs all of your attention because it’s not normal. Porco Rosso, for all its differences from reality, isn’t so far removed from what we might expect to understand what’s going on at any given point. The story leaves you with questions about exactly what happens next, but all that means is each viewer can see what they want to see for the future of the characters they will have come to like so much.

Good quality dvd, had a few issues loading and had to resynce the dubbing but overall positive viewing
