Iggy releases another winner

Before an Iggy named Azalea there was another Iggy tearing up the music scene and setting trends. James Ostergerg has been known as the leader of the "Proto Punk" band The Stooges and so much more. He has been an influence musically to several generations of musicians and fans. This, his 17h studio record, was produced by Josh Homme from the Queen of the Stone Age and also features members of the Queens and the Arctic Monkeys. It is Iggy doing what Iggy does best-bringing you his own unique brand of Garage Rock...nothing more and nothing less.

When I first heard about Iggy Pop teaming up with members of Qotsa and Arctic Monkeys for a new record, I was very skeptical. I mean, I always picture him as the brawny, snarling voice of punk icons The Stooges. I just figured there's no way his style would translate into Homme's unique style of desert rock, but I was DEAD wrong. This album has heart, soul, groove, sweat and blood permeating throughout. "American Valhalla" is probably the best song I've heard all year and paired with the single "Gardenia" this one-two punch alone is worth the price of admission for me.

A Pop Classic

I'm a fan, but I recognize that a new Iggy album is a hit and miss adventure. Sometimes you get a classic like The Idiot, Lust for Life or Brick by Brick. Sometimes you get Zombie Birdhouse or Party.
This one is a Pop classic created with an all-star band that obviously loves him and cherishes the chance to perform with Jim. They say this might be his last. If so, he goes out on top.
Here's hoping that he has at least one more in him!

Iggy's (maybe) final album is a bracing triumph

Now pushing 70, Iggy remains a true wild child at heart. The songs are as weirdly and profanely poetic as ever. And it's still easy to see what his late friend David Bowie admired about his brutal sonic and verbal wall of angry noise. The presence of Josh Homme on gtr. and production is a huge boost for what is likely the final Iggy release.

Iggy's Curtain Call

This record will remind you more of a QOTSA record than an Iggy solo effort, but it's very good just the same. The music is mostly mid-tempo stuff that makes great use of Iggy's lower range vocals. The songs are moody & atmospheric, yet very catchy at the same time. Iggy claims this record and tour might be his last. If so, it's a great way to go out.

I remember seeing Iggy many years ago at the Old Waldorp in SF. He threw himself on the small stage onto broken glass cutting himself. I will never forget that. This record is different in that it is not as hard rock as previous records but still vintage Iggy

As a big Queens of the Stone Age fan, I really enjoyed this album. This is my first Iggy album, but after this I think I will be picking up more of his stuff. The music is kind of what you would expect from Queens and Iggy's vocals kind of reminded me of Bowie's last album.

Ok, so the songs are a little substandard, according to my music loving friend. However, Iggy has one of the greatest voices in Rock, and he can take a fair song and do it justice. Also, Josh's production is Bowiesque.(and that's a compliment).

Excellent album. One of the best in Iggy's career. Too bad it took so long for the former Stooges frontman to hook up with Queens of the Stone Age. The worst thing about this album - it's too short! - more please!

Josh Homme and Iggy Pop deliver a strong album. It's a raw and strong album with great songs. Iggy sings with confidence and the music raw and fresh. The album gets better with each listen.

Very good Sonic product from the comeback record of a notable rock music veteran and icon, Iggy Pop. I think his colaboration with Joshua Homme is what he needed to jump start his career.

Iggy found an excellent collaborator in Josh Homme.
Homme as a producer helped recapture Iggy's late '70's sound & keeps it current as well.
Iggy's best solo effort in many years!!

Iggy Pop's newest album is a true work of art. His deep growl is still in perfect form. Turn the volume up, close your eyes, and get hypnotized by the charm of Post Pop Depression!

This new CD is brilliant, creepy, heart thumping, spooky, creative, loud, raucous, subdued, sublime, retrospective and awesome!! Basically, then, it's an Iggy Pop CD. Enjoy!

Another great collection of music from the grandfather of punk. Some of the songs have heard a few times to interpret what the songs are about.

Iggy Pop has always been good. He's never had a backing band that is this good!
Top notch tunes from Josh Homme and most of Queens of the Stone Age.

I bought this on a whim and I'm not disappointed. All the things I have come to love about him are still intact in this cd. Fantastic!
