You need to understand what you are getting into

I felt compelled to write a counterpoint to the negative review here on the Best Buy site. Look... This is a game that revels in the B-Movie aesthetic that it is born out of. The cheeziness of it is excusable because it is part of the fun. It's about hundreds of enemies on screen at once, old-school arcade run and gunning, and accumulating lots of resources to unlock other weapons in the game. You can do all this with up to four friends online or in local split screen coop - which is an unfortunately dying breed of multiplayer. Sandlot was the developer of the original cult classic, Earth Defense Force 2017 that came out in 2007. This is a new development house, but they've done a great job of making their own mark on the series. The game is more than the sum of it's parts and it has real heart. The original is a cult classic and I think this game will be as well. The game is divided into a series of campaign missions that you can play on your own or with a friend. There is also a survival mode. Achievements/Trophies are divided between both of these modes. There is a light class system that does a lot to break up the gameplay. Each class plays a little differently from the agile airborne troop to the heavily armored and slow ground fighter. You can unlock many weapons for each character class along your way through the game. You make progress in this game by killing large insects... lots of large insects. It's endless fun to wade through hundreds of enemies in pure 3rd person arcade style, and it's even more entertaining with a friend. There are various difficulty levels for each stage and lots of upgrades to unlock, so even after completing the main campaign, there is much more to do. It is not the prettiest game, but the game engine functions serviceably to render hundreds of enemies and buildings on screen at once. Audio effects are low budget and voice work is repetitive, but it's completely forgivable in the context of the gameplay and the world the game represents. It's corny and it wears the label with pride. I've had a blast with this game for many hours. A certain type of gamer is going to love this title. For the price Best Buy is asking, it's a steal.

This is one of the worse games I have ever played. I watched the video online and thought I would give it a shot since it was pretty cheap. The graphics are dull and cartoonish. The game at times makes a weird audio noise that it shouldn't. What makes the game so hard to get into is the fact that it is the same thing over and over. You pretty much fight the same 3 insects through the whole game. At the later levels they add armor to make them tougher to beat. The worse part about the game was spinning in a circle shooting the wasps in the air. I wish I could be refunded for the time I wasted playing this game.
