If you enjoyed watching mob movies, this is worth checkingout

Public Enemies is one of Johnny Depp's best movies.

The two stars is not for the quality of the film but the quality of the Blu-ray transfer. The dark-lit scenes are horrible. It was very difficult to watch. I may replace it with the DVD version.

Seeing how this is from director Michael Mann. Who has directed such masterworks as Heat and Collateral. This one is just an overlong, boring movie with good preformances.

So my dumb behind did not open this when I first got it. After a month of having it I decided to watch it. When I opened the case there was no disc. And now its too late to return. $10 down the drain

Starts out very promising. The next two hours are a chore to get through.

The acting and story of the public enemies is very good, the action is fun to get into and it's a very nice story to follow. However, in the story the writing is somewhat poor, (except there is some humor in it) at times John Dillinger says lines to Billie Frachette at the beginning of the movie that don't make much sense and leave you saying what is he talking about? ( IE: he says, i'm catching up) Also, one other problem is they expect you to know the story and the characters without actually establishing who they are, IE if someone dies you have no emotional attachment to them during the movie whatsoever, which can be good because it's easier to side with Dillinger (Johnny Depp) in this way, but I am just pointing it out so of coarse it depends how you look at it. The lighting in the movie gets dark, especially if you look around the eye sockets and under lit rooms. (mood lights) The editing has a couple of major errors at one point john dillinger is walking with Billie Frachette and as he turns his head to look at her it jumps. (seriously whoever made that mistake, should be fired because it is truly amateur) This movie had two head editors!! As far as the coloring, there is one mistake that really bothers me. When John Dillinger and Billie Frachette are in the restaurant the drapes are an awkward unusual color except from a distance. So all and all this is a good movie, but it would have been a lot better if they had editors that weren't so bad!!

This movie covers both sides of the governments fledgling attempts at controlling criminal masterminds that were controlling the minds of the depression era famished citizens. It showed some tolerance given to Dillinger, a "Robin Hood" type character (Depp), and the task for the bigger tha life lawman (Bale) that pursued him. Depp carefully crafts a human quality and face to the dark evil facet, countered by Bale's portrayal of good and crystalizes his resolve and dedication above and beyond to take down this heroic foe. What I feel the movie lacked in, was showing the true widespread plight of the times and the desperation of the common person. The control placed on them by thugs and criminals that took advantage of their plight and ruled their fears. Bale was the true hero in many minds of the time by my parents, not Depp. However, if the spin was that criminals take advantage of the poor and beaten down for their own personal gain, then that wouldn't fill theatre seats, would it!!!

I didn't go to see this movie in the theater because I was told the sound of the machine guns were very loud. I decided to wait and see it on Blu-ray at home so I could adjust the volume, if necessary. There wasn't a need to; the sound was appropriate to the time and the type of guns used. I found the movie very interesting and Johhny Depp's acting was so acurate that I actually thought he was John Dillinger!

the plot,acting,actors,action, almost was a perfect movie except for the very poor editing job that they did on the movie it looks terrible at times and sometimes it looks clear but other than that the movie is good and its got a digital copy also which kind of makes up for the terrible picture quality. i would wait till they fix it dont waste your money on the blu ray

I am not going to waste your time on a plot synopsis, that is what IMDB is for; rather I will say that for a movie with no CGI this is still worthy of being purchased in Blue Ray over DVD. The audio and cinematography are so crisp and vivid that this flick need not be wasted in an inferior medium.

All in all, a great movie. I had to watch it twice to fully enjoy it due to I was expecting more of the gangsters lifestyles rather then the FBI story...but after watching it the second time I truely enjoyed it. Great film for anyone interested in the older times and wanting to learn bits of how the FBI was started.

The thing is that the story line steers off towards the mid-end to show things that are historically incorrect. the micheal mann direction is impecible...also he filmed it in HIGH DEF so if you have a great home system its awesome! plus you need to have a surrond sound duh.. ! MAKE A TUB OFF POPCORN...and its better than bein at the movies !!!!

I can't believe how good this was. Johnny Depp is great. It also was filmed in Oshkosh,WI where I live and it was sure great to see Oskosh on the big screen. Everybody in WI should get this. But I heard that some of the story isn't true. Well otherwise a well directed movie.

johnny deep plays a great ganster. And i would recommend this movie to all my friends i even got it for my 79yr old mom to watch.

I can't believe I waited so long to purchase this movie! I found it as I was going through the $7.99 bin and had to get it. Overall a great movie, especially with Johnny Depp playing Dillinger.

You must go to Best Buy and check out the Movie bins, not the movies on the rack but in the bins. They are new, priced right and in Blu-Ray format. Thanks Best Buy

This movie is totally awesome. It was written and directed perfectly. Was interested during the whole movie. The picture was even better on my Sony Blu-Ray player. It is an all around great movie.

I watched this movie when it first came out on cable. I love the history of the gangster era especially Joh Dillinger. Came across it at best buy for $4.99. Can't beat the price.
