    Open World Mad Max Wolfenstein

I'm not a super huge fan of "open world" games where there's like a lot to do, but it's too easy to get lost or get distracted and then you end up in the middle of nowhere and blow-up your car and now you gotta like literally walk alllllll the way back to somewhere to get a car... it's like ... it's not fun. We're in a post-"Breath of the Wild" and post-"Metal Gear Solid V" world, and it's sometimes unfair to have those metrics, but if you really compare, then this can't compare. But, ignoring all that, and not being a jerk: The style is really colorful and interesting. It's very flashy. The monsters / mutants / whatevers are ok. The sound is weird, like I might be missing some speakers / bass, but like the gravel sound is insanely squishy and squidgy. There's lots of skill upgrades for you and your cars and your guns and everything, it's pretty neat. But of course I immediately just drove around and did random stuff and then got lost. I drove back to the main starting point, but that was empty. There's a bunch of places to go and stuff to do, but they're all spread-out and it's like really really really vastly different to run around vs. driving around. Driving around seems to be the only actual way to get anywhere or do anything, and it's way too easy to try and "Breath of the Wild" climb over every mountain in your way, but it really really really does NOT work. Gotta go around. There's just so much "empty space", which means annoyances. However, when you're not in the empty spaces, it gets wacky. Explosions and colours and static and noises and lights and all kinds of wackiness. It's a lot. And there's all kinds of addictive things to collect and all that twitchy itchy goodness that a modern videogame is to facilitate as a life distraction. For what it is, it's good. Tons of upgrades, controls are great, action is great, responsiveness is good, and the UI and style are both pretty amazing. I'm just really losin' patience for the trope-y things like random garbage everywhere that you can't interact with, empty pointless rooms, vast distances between stuff, and dead-end cliffs. It's like ... somebody designed literally every pixel of this ... just put up walls and don't let me climb behind them ... done. Make it what it is and only what it is and don't show me stuff I can't get to or interact with. It would feel so much more polished and complete.

The game is not a masterpiece and in a lot of ways, I get why people had such a luke warm reception to it. However, give it time and the gameplay just clicks and it is kind of a blast. I still prefer the first game to this one, however, those lucky enough to buy it for under $40 are possibly in for a great treat. Story is meh, Missions are meh, powers are fun, guns are fun. Just nothing is truly amazing. However, I don't need every game to be the best ever, so there you go. 7.5/10

The game is first and foremost an id soft shooter, so if you like doom and quake you’ll be right at home here. The weapons are exactly what one would expect, responsive and effective. The combat is fast and furious, with some cool abilities thrown in and gadgets that can be crafted from the tons of resources found everywhere in the game. The driving, at least on console, is merely ok and searching completed areas for the goodies can become tedious as there is no in game indicator to help find them. Probably intentional as to prolong game play. But, as stated, the main attraction here is the gunfights and they do not disappoint. Good, mindless shooting at its best.

This game has amazing Doom/ id software level shooting mechanics with additional powers akin to Dishonored or Mass Effect's biotic powers. The open world is very repetitive and separates fun combat areas with boring drive sequences to new locations. The story is remarkably short and can be finished in a few hours. Overall, I would wait for a price drop to $30 or less to make it worth the purchase.

I've only played a few hours but from what I've played I really enjoy. There are a lot of abilities and guns to keep the combat from getting old and side missions to break up the campaign. Races, destroying giant turrets and clearing out enemy camps are a few of the side objectives I've come across so far. DOOM meets Borderlands meets Mad Max if that sounds like something you'd like than this is the game for you.

Boy am I disappointed in this hot tird of a game. The hype train was strong and I fell into the trap of purchasing a Deluxe Avalanche edited version of Id's Rage 1 for PS3. Where do I begin: the game is short, the story is non-existent, the graphics are last gen: I'd rather heightened graphics over frame rate but these Id/Bethesda clowns don't care what you or I would prefer, the progression and weapon upgrades are confusing, no loot other than the upgrade currency of blue gems that disappear within a second post-death of an adversary, the guns are limited in scope and not at al creative, the world is still dead just like Rage 1: did they even care or listen to reviews of Rage 1? It's like they just can't see past their vision of Rage 1 being perfect while the rest of the world continues to say nah and develop creative and new concepts into their games. Their narrow mindedness clearly comes across in their explicit disparaging of media reviews. I will give the game 2 stars for including Avalanche: I'd rather them take over this IP vs. Id which Id seem like they are still stuck in the 90's thinking they still make good games. I also like they are incorporating the color of pink into their game: pink is the new masculine!

Rage 2 is a good game, there’s no doubt about that. However it is lacking in the story and interactions with NPCs. If you liked the weapons and powers in the 2016 DOOM, then you’ll really enjoy the combat of this game because the combat in this game is just so fun. Overall, it’s a fun experience and where it lacks in story, it’s made up with combat and action packed car battles.

Rage 2 a similar style to Far Cry and yet separates itself with its own style. It's a super fun romp through a wasteland with biggest downside being a bit repetitive. I'd buy it again without question.

Rage 2 has hit, and it's one of the most fun shooters of this generation. When I refer to shooter, I'm speaking of the mechanics, but the rest of the game also has moments to shine, as well. First off, don't worry about having had to have played the original. Any story threads from the first game are summed up nicely, where (rarely) applicable. The open world is VAST, powered by Avalanche Studio's (makers of the criminally overlooked Mad Max game,) open world engine. It's huge, it's a gorgeous wasteland, and filled with plenty to discover. You'll encounter plenty of free-happening skirmishes along your travels (helped along by your trusty, sass-talking vehicle, the Phoenix, as you take on missions and hunt down precious resources and Arks. About every step you take and every mile driven is guaranteed to be fun, unless you opt to stare at the blemishes too long. There's plenty of those free skirmishes you'll randomly encounter, but they often look and feel played out extremely similarly. Vehicles are all fun to drive- you'll be able to collect a dozen or so vehicles- but none seem as all-purpose or helpful as the Phoenix you get right after the intro mission. (And none can be upgraded outside of the Phoenix). All of these cracks really need a microscope to stand out and feel like a hard negative, which is difficult to do when you're having as much fun as Rage 2 offers with its gunplay and character powers. And that is where Rage 2 truly shines. You'll find yourself "gibbing" one enemy with your shotgun as you activate "shatter," which sends you rushing forward, punching another 20 feet in the air, armor flying off in pieces, then activating your Rage meter, which pretty much makes every enemy pop with each shot or punch. While gunplay & powers are simply the best (and maybe better) than Bulletstorm's, there's a hint of Doom here, but Rage 2 will make you wonder how you you'll ever go back to having to fight in corridors again. Vehicles have combat, as well, as roaming caravans (VERY reminiscent of Mad Max!) Can be taken on for parts to upgrade the Phoenix. While fun, there's a small letdown in comparison to your on-foot battles. Lastly, the Deluxe Edition (especially if pre-ordered) offers quite a bit of bang for the buck. DLC, season pass, a skin for the monster truck, a flag for your Phoenix, and (you'll need to locate it, but it practically lands in your face after leaving the opening mission,) Doom's BFG. The BFG is a blast, but while completely overpowered (it's essentially a one-hit boss killer,) ammo is expensive enough that it can make you make difficult decisions when purchasing. Overall, while I'm sure many expected more from the game, Rage 2 has offered more pure fun in a shooter than I've had, or even expected after playing the original

Definitely an improvement on the original Rage and ultra fun with the abilities and weaponry. Usual Open world repetitiveness, but that is what we're used to.

People are knocking this game for lack story. If you care about a deep story with AAA voice acting and dialogue, look somewhere else. If you are looking for a fun shooter with many customizable activities, this is the game. I can’t stop playing. Very good relaxing shooter.

This is a high powered action game. The humans don't look as graphically good as say Anthem, however the story is fun and the personalities are distinct. This world seems a lot more intense and fun that a lot of other games with first person action. Handling is great, skills are freight. I wish the menus were a bit better and the lettering not so small but I definitely recommend it.
