The Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2016 keyboard is one of the best keyboards Oct 21, 2016 Review by Ali Pros: Very fun and easy to use for gaming Cons: Extremely loud and very expensive The Bottom Line:The price is very high for a keyboard. I would say if you’re looking for a mechanical keyboard, then there are many other options to go. With razer, most of their things are expensive because of their brand name. I am one of those guys that like to push a lot of buttons while playing video games. I love the keyboard for doing that. I enjoy very much because it is very easy to click the buttons and also colorful. To me, it is the perfect keyboard for playing video games. I would recommend the keyboard if you have some extra cash. PRICE: For a keyboard, $110 is way too much in my opinion. I heard great things about it so I ended up getting the razer blackwidow ultimate keyboard. I saw many other options for a low price but I wanted the brand name. I would say if you have the extra cash lying around, then purchase the blackwidow ultimate keyboard. If you are on a budget, go for another option. DESIGN: The design is pretty basic. It doesn't have any special buttons but the one thing that it does have is the color. It comes in a bright green and you can change it how bright or dark you want it. If you want the keyboard with all the colors, you are going to have to spend a lot of more money. PERFORMANCE: The keyboard is amazing in my opinion. It allows me to click way faster. I barely have to put and force down into the keys. I love it for playing video games but not so much for other activities. It also offers one USB port on the side of the keyboard for a mouse. I would recommend this for playing video games on the computer, but if you are looking at the razer keyboard for normal purposes, then I would not recommend it. SOUND: The sound is cool to listen to because of the mechanical keys but it is also extremely loud. If you live with your family and you’re trying to play at night, it is going to be awfully loud. Whenever I would write papers, it would be consistently loud and kind of annoying. If I am in a call with other people, they also hear the keyboard and it can be loud to them also. That is why I recommend it for gaming uses only. QUALITY: After having this keyboard for about a month, I feel like the quality is amazing. The keyboard offers high quality wires. It is nice and thick unlike many other keyboard with just a basic wire. You won't have to worry about ripping the wire at all. I am fast at typing and it has been working good for me.

I really wanted a new keyboard for my computer. I was going cheap for a while buying wireless keyboards from wal-mart. But I have typed for over 20 years and realize a good keyboard and a good mouse make the difference. So I finally got the money (well my girlfriends tax return but who askin) to buy a new keyboard. And I'm so pleased. Seriously. I'm not a gamer. The game I play is from 2004 or 5 i believe and it doesn't need a bunch of graphics to make it run. But the cool thing about this keyboard is the klickty clack. So if you don't like noisy keyboards DO NOT GET THIS ONE. But if you don't mind and you like the feel of a keyboard when you type like I do. You should get this one. I checked out some other expensive ones like the chroma. But that was too small and I didn't get the since of the keyboard clicking. So I chose this one, Still cost me a 100 dollars but its so worth it. Love the lights on the keyboard as well. I heard you can change the lights setting but I have not. I also heard about some other keyboard and did my review. Ones from other companies and it seems razor is up to date on their software and apparently their software is really easy to use. Which is ironic cause I have never used it. Ive only had one problem. Not worth taking a star away but for some reason the keyboard lights stopped working. And the reason I didn't take a star away cause the lights is just a show off. Nothing really having to do with typing. But I've come to like them so much so I actually had a hard time figuring it out how to get back on. Almost downloaded the the great software but I didn't I just hit control f11 or f12 and held it down till the lights came back on. Simple fix. This keyboard is for hard core gamers so I know I don't qualify to give you all the out takes on what this keyboard does for gamers. But take from some who has been in typing classes since 1995. This keyboard has a great feel to it and honestly well help you type more accurately. If you can handle the noise which I can then you will love this keyboard.

    At last, a decent keyboard

I'm a picky typist, and have been for several decades. My first real keyboard was a Keytronic Professional 101, if that gives you an idea of the kind of solid tactility I expect: something clicky, something light and articulate, something with decent travel, and something that lets me be confident when a key has actually registered. This offering from Razer basically ticks those boxes, a solid beast intended for the rigors of gaming while still providing some lighting pizazz. My small nitpicks center on their keycap art; the font is blocky and for several keys (such as the ";"/":" key and all the numbers) they choose to put the unshifted symbol *above* the highlighted symbol. I touchtype so that's not so confusing, but some people might be mystified. A comment that might or might not bother you is that the keys are almost *too* crisp -- they're not hard to depress like some of the ancient IBM workstation keyboards, but there's basically no "squish" either that might cushion the percussion of typing all day. Those who really pound their keys might want to bear that in mind before shelling out for this bad boy. If you want lighting behavior other than a uniform "breathing", you'll need to install Razer's software. I use this keyboard for a laptop dock at work, and I was experiencing some odd dockability issues I think might be due to said software, so I didn't end up bothering. The real lighting fanatics should probably upgrade to the full-color Chroma keyboards from Razer anyway. Bottom line: I may never find the *perfect* keyboard, but this one is pretty solid and certainly better than any of the normal Microsoft or Logitech keyboards you'll find on store shelves. BE AWARE that the audible clickiness of this keyboard is NO JOKE, so if you work somewhere that noise pollution is frowned upon, you might need to think twice. Otherwise, go for it.

I purchased the Razer keyboard at my local best buy. I needed a new one because my last keyboard was wireless, and it no longer connected. Instead of fiddling with the wireless stuff, I decided to get this Razer keyboard. I tried out the keyboards in the store, and the keys felt right to me. I bought it in store, and they even priced matched it to amazon. It was a great deal. When I got home, it was easy to install. You just plug it in, and it starts working. I didn't want to the green backlighting, so Installed the razer keyboard software to turn it off. If you're okay with it, you're probably fine without installing it. All the function keys worked fine without it. As for the features, the build quality is great. It's very solid. Some keyboards are too lite, so they may move around too much. This keyboard doesn't have that problem. The best features are the keys since they have great feedback and are great for gaming and typing. I could type on these all day. The braided cable is also great. On the end of it as the audio jack, USB for connecting the keyboard, and an extra USB. If you connect the extra USB and audio jack, you can use the ports on the right side of the keyboard. One USB for connecting devices and an audio jack for connecting your headphones. This is great since it's hard to reach my USB ports. Summary: 5/5 Overall, I'm very satisfied with the keyboard. A solidly build keyboard with great features.Makes typing easy and is great for gaming. The braided cable feels like it will last. I also love the USB port and audio jack on the right side.

I've spent a lot of time reviewing and testing several gaming/mechanical keyboards currently on the market, and I have to say that this is one of my favorites. Razer has done a great job of creating a quality keyboard with truly fantastic key switches. I'm a Cherry MX Blue fan myself but have also used Reds, Silvers, and Browns. This keyboard has "Razer Green" switches which are really just switches made by Greetech that are similar to Blues. In other words, they have both a tactile "bump" when the actuation point is reached as well as an audible "click" of the plunger mechanism that goes off just after the actuation point. They have a slightly decreased actuation distance and total travel distance compared to Cherry Blues, so what you end up with is actually a more responsive and, in my opinion, better-feeling version of Blues. My only gripe with this keyboard, and with most of Razer's keyboards, is the poor placement of the media control keys. You have to use two hands to both press the Fn key in the bottom-right and then the mute/volume keys located on F3-F5. It may be a minor issue for others, but for me it was quite annoying. Otherwise, I highly recommend this keyboard if you're looking for a solid gaming/mechanical keyboard at a good price with some of the best-feeling switches available.

First, I'll say that a gaming keyboard is by no means required, I'd rather reccomend an ergonomic setup simply to help cope with long PC sessions. That being said, this is an exceptional keyboard especially at the price point Best Buy is offering (only 10$ for GS protection, too!). I've used cheap keyboards and higher end boards alike, more recently, the G110 from logitech since its release, the BlackWidow is in a class of it's own. The mechanical keystrokes have a noticebly smooth response time and although the lighting may not offer colors aside from Razer Green, if coupled with RazerSynapse, there are several lightshow-esque configurations. Additionally, this board has a fully braided/cloth protected cord, so you'll have to really be a hardcore user to damage it. Physically speaking, two USB ports and a 3.5 MM jack are required for connection, assuming you would like to use the onboard audio (the USB port and audio-out are on the right hand side of the board, righties beware, it doesn't bother my fairly small spaced setup, though). Aesthetically speaking, this version of the BlackWidow is quite appealing to the eye especially if you are partial to the black on green Razer look. TLDR; pretty board, fast keystroke response, onboard audio-out (cable management +1), as well as a fairly compact size = good buy.

I don't game on my computer, I have an xbox for that. But I do A LOT of writing. So I needed a keyboard that goes clickity-clickity. This keyboard goes clickity-clickity, so yay. Good going keyboard. It takes two USB ports which is weird, but I got it installed and I clickity-clickity to my heart's content. Other notes: I use it on a Mac. It has drivers for the Mac, they're not the best drivers but it works fine if you keep it on the default. I knocked off a star because the mac keycaps could have been included (they aren't) and I needed to manually remap to match the mac layout. Other weird thing is how the key's function is displayed. Typically the main function is on the bottom and the top is the alt-function when you hit shift. Its the opposite on this thing. Not a deal breaker, but weird. So yay, good going keyboard, you function well as a keyboard. Keep keyboarding on.

I bought this keyboard last month (Razer - BlackWidow Ultimate 2016) which had great reviews, but turned out not so great. Wife demanded a new keyboard after a couple weeks of use. So just replaced this with the much cheaper and much quieter Azio Vision Backlit USB Keyboard with Large Print keys and 5 Interchangeable Backlight Colors (KB506). When you’re gaming over 12 feet away from someone trying to watch TV and they are always complaining about the loud clicking of every key, you know there is a problem. On this more expensive Razer the character keys symbols are just painted on and not lit. On the Azio ALL the symbols and characters are lit up. If you are single or living in your parents basement with your headphones on it's an okay keyboard, but if there is anyone else in the house, the loud clicking of every key will drive them crazy. This one did have the pass through USB which I liked and the Azio does not have. Only good thing is I got this Razer on sale for $69, so I'm not too bad off. I'll still try to return it to BestBuy.

I bought this keyboard looking for a good typing keyboard and I have been wanting to go to mechanical switches. I love the "click-clack" of these mechanical switches, and the Razer green switches are supposed to be comparable to Cherry MX blue switches. I tried the display model, loved the sound and feel so I bought it. I like the fact that it lights up and is so adjustable, but most of the effects are too distracting for me. I like the USB pass through, it is handy to have for the mouse but would be better if it was in the back because the cord gets in the way. Now one of my biggest problems with this keyboard is the shape of the space bar. I am still playing with the location and angle of the keyboard, but the space bar is shaped so that you must incline the keyboard otherwise your thumb hits on the square edge of the keyboard. Might make the whole thing look like it was cut with lasers out of a solid block, but sorta kills the comfort of doing a lot of typing.

Do Not Buy... Serious Design Flaws

Great keyboard in general, but some serious design flaws (unless you are left handed). The keyboard has an audio jack and USB port, which is a great idea, but instead of putting them on the BACK of the unit, they are on the RIGHT side of the unit. If you decide to plug your sound bar into the keyboard and plug anything into the USB port, you will CONSTANTLY be banging your mouse into the cables if you use a standard size keyboard/mouse tray. To add insult to injury, the Razer mouse I use has a particular button sequence to change the speed of the mouse and I am constantly bumping the cables in just the right way and slowing down my mouse. It is downright infuriating to pay top dollar for "high-end gear" that someone didn't even bother to play test before it was shipped to market. Most of Razer's gear is like this... I purchased this keyboard, a Mamba mouse, and a Leviathan soundbar, and there are problems with all three.

there are several good things about this keyboard, and i will list the points that i liked. 1# i really like the way this keyboard was built. it is solid. i have dropped it off my lap MANY times, and it has yet to break anything inside. #2. the back lite (in my favorit green color) really helps in the dark room reading and making sure i hit the right keys. #3. the Razer Synapse controle program gives you a bajillion ways to customize your stuff... like.. i really mean a bajillion. the only thing i found that i dont like. is (yes i knew it was a mechanical keyboard) that the mecanichal keyboard is LOUD. i knew it was going to be some noise... but man it is loud. my wife hates it because of the "clicky, clickly click" i still rate it as a 5

A really great keyboard m- the positive feel of the keys is superb - a proper click (which some may hate and some may love). I am a professional software developer and my keyboards take a real beating from many hundreds of thousands of clicks every day. I used to use a Microsoft 2000 keyboard which is excellent but I was going through two a year with the keytops wearing off and keys wearing out. This Blackwidow keyboard is guaranteed for two years against failure so if I keep up my rate of working keyboards to death I will be making a profit! A really positive click feel and the back light on the keyboard help with me sighting keys via my peripheral vision which. although I touch type it seems my subconscious needs to have a little visual hint - I keep the lights in my office very low and cave-like because that's how I like to write code. A great product!

I was surprised how very well built this keyboard is with high quality material, just by lifting it you can tell is very sturdy, they keys are super responsive (as advertised). The green led effects adds a nice look to your overall gaming rig. The only con is obviously the price, 90 bucks for a keyboard is insane! I bought it mainly for my son, he had been after me for months to get him this, but he has been doing very well in school so he deserved it. I couldn't say if this will make you a better gamer, but it certainly makes it easier to play certain games. I would not recommend you buy this unless you are absolutely convinced that you want or need it. I'd suggest you go into the store and try it for yourself.

This is my first Blackwodow keyboard. I have always have regular, mac and laptop keyboards so this is my first gaming keyboard. The keys feel really good and lite and also the clickyness sometime is too loud unless you like that kinda thing. I like the headphone jack in the keyboard, I could have went Chroma but I already have a Razerblade laptop. Not much else to say about this except if you get a good price on this or you want to have an extra keyboard, definitely pick this up. If you really want Chroma, spend the money i think its worth it. Definitely fees better than the other gel keyboards.... for as much as you use this, buy a black widow!

If there is one thing Razer can always be proud of its their Gaming keyboards. With its MX cherry green switches that make every key stroke Clicky and smooth at the same time. The actuation on each key allows for a soft or hard press depending your your typing style. Quick response macros and programmable keys to truly customize the key board to fit your play style. I use this keyboard daily for typing and gaming. Being able to set certain keys for specific functions, such as making a key open certain programs helps with easy transition between application. The only downside is the lighting effects are a little lacking. If your looking for a great quality keyboard then you will love this one

Default mode for the keyboard is “breathe” - so it’s always getting brighter and dimmer. You have to log on and create an account just to change to a setting where the lighting is always on. I got this to replace the cheap keyboard at work because the room where I work is too dark. You can imagine how difficult it was to go through corporate IT just to hook up an aftermarket keyboard. And to add insult to injury, the letters look like they are written in Klingon. I bought this because it seemed like a good deal. I’ve got 8 other keyboards where I routinely work - I can guarantee I won’t be buying any more of these.

I Loved this keyboard. The razer green switches were clicky and it felt great to type one. Truly a joy! Only problem I had with this board were LEDs began dying shortly after a year. They key caps also weren't 100% strait and would twist slightly as there was some slop in the switch which wasn't as much of a deal-breaker as the LEDs dying. If they upgraded the quality of the LEDs and fixed the switches to have a tighter tolerance I wouldn't hesitate to get it again if it were not for the razer synapse software. Needed to be updated constantly and wouldn't clean up after the install. I found a solid 1gb of old update downloads tucked away somewhere on my computer, and that's only after a year!

When I first bought this keyboard I never planned on keeping it. I was either going to sell it or give it as a gift. however i was definitely planning on test driving it a few days, and now its been well over two weeks and im hooked. Sure it's loud but it is supposed to be. and it feels so satisfying to type on this thing. the razer green switches are said to be very similar to the Cherry MX blues. and the lights are pretty cool too. especially with the software they provide. My favorite part is it recognizes what game you're playing and automatically switches the light settings to how you customized them for that game. or u can just shut em off. oh and did I mention there's a usb and audio jack passthrough on the right side of the keyboard.

Pretty much a steal at the sale price of $54 that it's been going for. Sure, you don't get RGB, but that feature gets old after a day anyways so I don't mind that it just stays green backlit. Key strokes feel amazing, durability is amazing. People who leaves bad reviews and say "Too Loud" are pretty ridiculous. They're loud in the store when you try them, what makes u think they will be quieter at home? Only reason for that getting 5 stars is Razers Software is legit the worst software on the market and no wrist rest which kinda sucks. Other then that I am super happy with this.

It's a good mechanical keyboard. I bought it for a friend who is on a budget, I use another brand that is RGB which is more expensive. This one was on sale for 82 and at this price it's a god deal. I took one star off because I don't like the Razer software that requires Razer account to use it, and it didn't even work on WIndows Vista, so I had to install on PC with Windows 7 to adjust the color effect I need and then plug it back to the computer with Windows Vista. This keyboard comes with breathe effect as default, so if you want to change it to static green it can only be done with Razer Synapse software which rquires you to create online Razer account before you can use it :(
