Best Buy offered this dvd at a discount price and free shipping option- the dvd itself is a widescreen version of the film with an enhanced 16x9 aspect ratio. It has not been remastered unfortunately but the image still surpasses the more expensive pan & scan versions available. A pity that Warner’s didn’t clean this up with a blu-ray upgrade and there are no extra features on this archive collection dvd. Still very happy to have a decent copy of this eccentric international Western. Recommended!

"Red Sun" provides a great blend of the American western and the Japanese samurai film, starring the classic actors Charles Bronson and Toshiro Mifune. The plot hinges around Bronson and Mifune recovering a stolen samurai sword taken in a train robbery, and the love-hate relationship between them along the way. Interestingly, western and samurai films had an influence on each other, and this film combines the best of both worlds. In fact, Mifune was known for acting in "The Seven Samurai," which later spawned the American remake "The Magnificent Seven" (in which Bronson starred). Overall, this is a great combination for fans of either genre, and especially rewarding for fans of both.

Very good story line and great natural open area scenes. You don't see much of those these days. Being a 1971 movie, it did a pretty good job on the gun and weapons fight scenes. This still a good out of the ordinary Westerns type of movie. Nothing fancy, just a good old fashion honor and respect type of film. If you like Charles Bronson or Toshiro Mifune, you can enjoy this for sure.

Red Sun is an overlooked classic with a fantastic ensemble of international stars Alaine Deleon, Charles Bronson, Toshiro Mifune and Ursula Andress! Directed by James bond alum Terence Young, it’s a great east meets western!
