Remnant From The Ashes - Playstation 4

This is a souls-like looter/shooter from gunfire games. Remnant From the Ashes takes place in a post apocalyptic world thats overrun by monsters called The Root (who kind of look like Evil Groots). They force humans into hiding. Gunfire games did a great job of building their own world and filling it with really cool looking monsters and environments. The combat is really great, the shooting is snappy and satisfying & your guns are your primary weapons. Melee is kind of like a secondary thing. Quick note on the melee thing though, i reelect that you don't have to switch to your melee weapon to use it but instead you just hit the attack button when your not aiming down sights and then you instantly start swinging your weapon. This makes the combat flow really well. There is no blocking, so dodging is the name of the game here, so you will be shooting an enemy & then hitting an enemy that is right in your face with your melee weapon that are rolling out of the way out of a range attack from another enemy, so combat can get very hectic and even at it's hardest its still fun and controls it very well. Its definitely my favorite part of the game. You can also mod your guns as well. This is definitely a game that is a must have for any souls-like fan!

Bought this game on a whim. It has utterly surprised me. The story, atmosphere and gameplay pulled me in within the first hour. Gameplay could be described as Bloodborne/Monster Hunter. Atmosphere, this us hard to compare. The Story so far? The voice acting is good but there are occasional sync issues. The actual story though, I'd compare it to Horizon: Zero Dawn with a dash of God of War. The further I get, the more engrossed in this world I become. Truly a gem. Keep in the mind, the game definitely has a lower budget. What they have achieved in my opinion, is a gem of a AAA scale game, minus the superp polish on a AA budget. Truly hope there is a sequel, with a bigger budget. Sony, if you're reading this; I'd aquire this studio. Under your stewardship, man, I relish with hopeful anticipation. Put Simply: I wish I'd known about it sooner, I wish more people did as well; buy it now.

So far I have sunk 6 hours in, and I am loving it! It uses a randomly generated world, which means it is designed for multiple playthroughs. I may see a certain boss on the second level that someone else does not see until their 3rd playthrough. The game has a great atmosphere, and fantastic punchy combat. It is on the difficult side, and is mainly geared towards cop-op, however the game can be played through solo as well. Fantastic game for the price! Not a AAA publisher, but feels like a lot of heart and soul was put into making this game. If youh like souls-like games, or you are looking to play something challenging with a couple buddies, or by yourself, buy this game! It plays like butter, and has insane replay value! 10/10

    Dark souls with Guns

Someone famously said that Remnant was Dark Souls with Guns and I totally agree wholehearedly. This was seriously one of the best experiences I had in gaming in 2020. The weapons are amazing, the world is unique and the Characters are people that you actually care about. I played the entire campaign Co-op and it was a blast. Seeing the progression of the character from weak armor/weapons to strong armor/weapons is awesome. Certain Boss fights happen in your play through that might not happen in other peoples playthroughs, when this happens depending on how you defeat the enemy the drops are different. Sometime you get a fancy Sniper, or you get a Melee weapon. Upgrading uses materials that are easy to find, but as you start leveling up items that materials that are used are harder and rarer to find making whichever items you want to upgrade a much harder choice as you progress. Overall give this game a chance, it's a small studio and games like this make the AAA companies step up and produce better products. Totally worth it, especially if you're doing the Co-op!

Good Start for a Dark Souls-esque Shooter

Made by the same team as Darksiders, this game actually does a good job at the dark souls formula. The dev team is constantly updating the game after community feedback as well. The guns are fun, abilities are really cool, and the combat is pretty snappy. This game, though, was made to be co-op and that becomes very obvious whenever you face a boss. Buy this game with a friend or use the public matchmaking system if you need to. Another really cool feature is that you level up traits (stats) which you discover throughout the game, such as Reload Speed, rather than just leveling up one of 8 stats at a time for the entire game. Note that your world is generated when you start the game and it will have a randomly generated setup of areas, quests, bosses, and events. There are going to be areas, bosses, quests, etc, that do not show up on the first run. But you also have the ability to re-roll your world at any time or step into adventure mode seamlessly. Adventure mode allows you to play a shortened version of your campaign to find those quests, monsters, bosses, and items you may have missed the first time. All in all, it is different enough from dark souls but similar enough to take a look. It is a unique addition to the hardcore action rpg genre for sure, and I enjoy it.

If you love dark souls & third person shooters like gears of wars this is it. Brings the difficulty of dark souls but with guns. Interesting Bosses & stages. Nothing feels repeated, control handles well, + online is very fun. You can change & upgrade weapons, armor, to make your character look unique. The difficulty ramps up real quick this ain't no cakewalk, then again its what makes it great. Must own. Enjoy!

It's a very fun game, much better when you play it with friends. However, if you enjoy tough shooters this is definitely one to play as it can be extremely addictive. Go it alone and challenge yourself, or grab some friends and have some fun!

A hard game to define. Loot shooter, 3rd person survival multiplayer shooter. I played the PC version and this version appears very similar with the graphics. Everything is here. Upgrades for weapons, lite character creation, armor, loot, monsters, exploring some RE type elements too. I'm having alot of fun here. This was a stealth release and I'm happy to have waited for the ps4 disc version. I do not support digital.

Your basic Dark Souls but with guns. this game was very fun and challenging to play. considering the enemies had different array of attacks. there are multiple upgrades in this game. Different classes to pick to play as and each have they're own way of fighting. The bosses are very unique and quite interesting to fight against. Very expressive characters that you will meet in the game. And honestly a game that's worth the buy.

All in all this game was solid. The graphics are quite cartoonish but work with this type of game to help reduce the violence level some and the gunplay/progression loop is satisfying. The story, however, leaves a bit to be desired as it never quite gets fleshed out in my opinion. The game is between 10-15 hours long but you are encouraged to make multiple play-throughs for better gear and more traits points etc. My bottom line: if you like the idea of a dark souls like (but much easier than the actual dark souls/fromsoftware games) shooter looter, you will enjoy this game.

For an AA game it’s better than most AAA games. So much fun. It’s apparent this was a lower budget game but the gameplay is solid and that’s what counts. I had a blast with Remnant!
