An exciting horror bash with its own identity

Easily a contender for my favorite Resident Evil game, it's like a greatest hits collection given its own very unique identity. It's not shy about cribbing a lot from 4 - purely in terms of gameplay and mechanics, it basically feels like a remake of it. But the tone is much more 3, while its story is of course tied to 7, and it surprisingly deepens the lore of 1 and even makes a few references to 5. And despite all of this, it's wholly accessible if it's your first Resident Evil game, although I'd highly suggest playing 7 first because the ending pays off a lot more if you know the first half of these characters' stories. The story may be properly bonkers, but it's still quite touching. No matter what, it's a blast. Plus the difficulty settings make it much more widely accessible, and the extra content shop that unlocks once you beat it highly incentivizes replays - you can unlock things like infinite ammo and even better weapons by completing trophies and other challenges, then romp through the hardest mode with a single endless gun that could kill a god. And I didn't even mention the free mini-game mode Mercenaries, which is fun too!

I've been playing Resident Evil since I was a kid in 1998. The series has had its fair share of ups and downs, but Village is definitely a high water mark. Capcom has really hit its stride and have found a nice balance of all the things that have made the franchise so beloved over the years—mixing the horror, survival, item management and puzzles of the original trilogy with the heart-pounding action and gore of 4,5, & 6. Fans of both eras of the series will each find things to love. The story is continues the one started in RE7 and is highly entertaining. Long time fans of the series will love it. Definitely worth avoiding spoilers at all costs. Also worth noting that the boss battles are bigger, better and definitely more frequent this time around. The action factor has clearly been kicked up a notch since we last saw Ethan Winters. That being said, make no mistake—Capcom did not skimp on the horror. Without giving away any plot info, I will honestly say that House Beneviento is the most haunting, disturbing thing I've ever experienced in my 23 years of playing the Resident Evil franchise. It terrified both my wife and I and left us feeling fairly uneasy afterward. It was fantastic.

Excellent game with lots of replay value. If you thought re7 was too scary, they tone it down a bit in this one. It's a bit more action but still gets spooky. It has a section that maybe the scariest thing I've ever seen. Great game overall. Mercenaries sub game is a lot of fun too. Dlc on the way as well.

I bought this game having played the first Maiden demo on PS5. The visuals are great and the gameplay is really good as well. Like Resident Evil 7 before it the game is still in the third person. For better or worse the third person view seems to be in the past for mainline games (we'll see about any new Resident Evil Chronicles title). The atmosphere and storytelling are really good though and worth playing. As far as story it plays off of the events of Resident Evil 7 as a follow-up taking place with the same main character, Ethan. I won't give away any spoilers, but it is possible to play this game with no knowledge of the past game. For gameplay there are many thematic scripted events and ammo seems to be more abundant than in past games. All around I'm a fan of the changes though I can see how fans of some of the survival elements of the past could be a little disappointed. In spite of that I still highly recommend grabbing this game, especially if you're a fan of the series, or just enjoy a good thematic game.

    First Resident Evil I've enjoyed

This is the first Resident Evil I've enjoyed. I was never a big fan of the way the others played but I had fun with this one. I know these games are suppose to be punishing but the constant lack of ammo and basic mechanics are always just a huge deal breaker for me. This game fixed a lot of that and it looks really good on a PS5. If you're brand new to the series, I recommend starting on the easy setting because it feels more like most games "normal" mode. The next difficulty up from there isn't too bad though. If you hate not having enough ammo all the time, definitely start on the easier mode. My opinion is that it's more enjoyable when getting into the story. It's not a very hard game, as the puzzles aren't that difficult, but they also aren't super easy. It's the type of game you can play more than once since you unlock a lot of guns for your second play through. The scenery is fantastic and makes it worth exploring every corner.

Still love it lol. I love how the story line is. I haven't finished it yet though. I love this game. I would definitely recommend it

I'm having fun playing RE Village. It reminds me of RE4. The story is great and there's plenty of action. I like that you can replay the story and have all your upgrades with you. The game is designed to run the story twice. You wont be able to upgrade all the weapons in just one run.

Boy, yet another game I was wrong about. Classic RE is one of my favorite games ever and the remake of part 2 blew me away. When I saw this game, I was at first put off by it being in first person and a continuation of the last game. But this game is amazing. There isnt a lot of flat out scary moments in this game, but the whole thing feels like a tribute. A tribute to Resident Evil, and a tribute to all the big horror genres. This has quickly become my second favorite entry in the series. The gameplay is tight and the puzzles are fun. The story and characters actually keep you invested and the environments are awesome. I didn't have any motion sickness at all with this (which sometimes happens to me in firat peraon games), and the as I saod before the settings were great. Some more so than others to be sure, but this game was a definite highlight of the games I played last year.

As someone who only played Resident Evil 1 and 7 before this game, I have to say that I have enjoyed my time with Village. The graphics on PS5 are good and the framerate drops are few and far between. The gameplay still needs a bit of work but the story continues to get more interesting. There have been some legitimately scary parts while others are more blood-pumping. Overall, RE8 is a great mix between action and horror!

Always love the RE series. Great story for RE VIII. The 4 major boss fights are excellent (specially the 2nd one... the shortest section of the game but the best) Recommended to every fan of the survival horror genre
