Customers highly value the camera's picture quality and ease of use, with many praising its simple installation. However, some users express concerns regarding battery life and motion detection reliability. The availability of a solar panel is also a plus for many. While some appreciate the wireless functionality and affordable price, others find the night vision and cloud storage options lacking.

I love everything about this camera. From the form and function to the ease of setup (less than 2 mins) to mounting it wherever I want. The app is great, the two way communication is great. The motion zones work perfectly once you get used to setting them based on your environment and traffic, etc. The cloud storage option is amazing considering what you get for the price you pay. Everything is amazing, except the actual video quality of the camera. It's supposed to be 720p. It is not, at least not the unit that I have. My video quality is so heavily pixelated most of the time, that it renders having this camera in the first place, useless. The image attached to this review is an completely unedited screen grab from a recent video recording. I've been working with the Ring support, and they have been great, however they kept almost insisting that the reason for the pixelation was due to my wi-fi connection. I have Xfinity cable internet with 100mbps downstream and 25mbps upstream, and I use a Linksys EA9500 router that is about 12-15 feet from where the camera is mounted. Wi-fi signal is not the issue at all. I exchanged speed test screen shots and other details with the Ring support, and after discussing with them they have advised me to return this unit and exchange it for another one. They have looked at my videos and agree the video quality should be better than what I'm seeing. So I will do that and update this review if I do see better results with the new unit. Wish me luck!

I bought the stick up camera and mounted it under the eave on the house. It views the patio between the house and the garage, also the back door. Very easy to install and set up.
The video recording is great. It alerts you as soon as it sees motion. The only drawback I have is the battery life. It lasts about 3 weeks. I contribute it to the temps. It has been cold, sometimes below zero for a few days at a time. I will be buying the solar panel in the near future.

I love my ring pro video doorbell and decided to buy the stick up cam for my backyard. I was underwhelmed. The quality of night vision was terrible to the point of useless. I decided to return because I wanted to be able to have see live views of both cameras simultaneously on the app. For the price (with solar charger), I would rather by a true HD camera with better night vision.

I purchased the Stick Up Cam (in spite of the name) with minimal expectations. However, that ended when I opened the box. I was very surprised with the quality, the ease of set-up, linking to iPhone, and creation of accounts. The installation was a piece of cake! The lesson learned (with me there is ALWAYS at least one lesson) was NOT to install the unit too high. Placing the unit too high will cause the RF to malfunction and not work as intended. The second time I installed the unit between 4.5 and 5 feet from the ground. That nailed it! As soon as I was done i started thinking of other places to install MORE units!!

If reading the negative reviews does nothing to keep you from buying this, don’t bother reading this review. If you’re still on the fence, read on.
I bought this despite the bad reviews, thinking maybe those people were doing something wrong, had the wrong conditions for the camera, etc etc. Turns out, they’re right —this camera and the software are not ready for prime time, not even close.
The setup was frustrating. Took several tries to get it to connect to my wifi. It finally did …and then the device disappeared from my app. Set it up again, figured maybe it was user error. Sometimes it would tell me it could not talk to the cloud, even though I was able to reach web pages, so I know my internet connection was OK. Then it would just magically clear up. Really, it’s a mess. But I soldiered on, thinking maybe this was a temporary hiccup, lots of people getting them for Christmas and overloading the servers.
With the camera set up, I proceeded to test the wifi. My phone connected to my router gets 4/5 bars out on the porch where I was mounting the camera. The camera? You’d think I was down the street with the pixelated, stuttering mess it presented. Ok, fine, I really want this to work, so I dropped another $50 on a range extender. Now I have a nice picture …when the app can actually talk to the camera. Live View is a hit or miss joke —half the time, it claims it can’t reach the camera (If I never see the "Sending Request, Activating Device, Sending Credentials, Opening Stream, NOPE!" sequence again, I'll die a happy man).
Ok, so Live View is spotty, how is the motion detection? It’s funny, it detected every single jostle when I was carrying it around during install. Now that I’ve drilled four holes in my home and have it mounted? Nothing. Set up the motion zones, you say? Ok, but for those to take effect, it has to detect motion. What happens when you can’t get it to detect motion and you want to expand the zones? Even standing a foot away and waving my hand in front of it results in nothing.
Maybe I’ve got a bum unit, but it seems a lot of people are getting bum units if tat’s the case. I bought this over the Nest cam because I didn’t need to run a power cable along the side of my home, and the Ring cloud access is cheaper, but I think I’m just going to return this and get the Nest cam anyway.

So I bought this less than a month ago, after I had a package get stolen from my porch in broad daylight. So far it's been great. I'm a little worried about the amount that I'll have to charge it, but I'll probably invest in a solar panel offered by Ring. Setup was easy, works great at the edge of my wifi. All of the alerting can be annoying if you have a busy street, or cars in and out. but it's good. I was able to capture everything that i needed, speak to anyone that is approaching, if necessary. I'm happy with the wide angle view, clarity, night vision. For the price, it can't be beat. Go secure your home.

I was looking for a security camera for a blind spot at the house. I own a ring door bell and thought this would be a great addition. WRONG. The location of the cam is too far from my router, leading me to have to purchase a Wi-Fi extender. In a nutshell the camera is slow to react. I can pull up in the driveway, make a backup 90 degree turn and be in the garage before the camera notifies me. When I am notified of motion it's a 50/50 chance I'll get the camera to show on my phone. The camera requires recharging weekly or sooner depending on activity.(removing it from it's location and charging it using the provided USB cable) It misses the SUV but puts out motion alerts in the middle of the night (I have yet to catch anything on the camera) YES it's convenient not to have an electrician wire up the cam, and YES it's nice to be able to put it virtually anywhere. But if I think if I had to do it over I'd just go with a wired camera (power) and forget this rechargeable stuff.

Hi TonyNap,
I'm sorry to hear about your recent Ring experience. Battery life is contingent on usage so the volume of alerts you receive per day will affect it but we can provide optimal settings to conserve your battery. Would you kindly reach out to me at [email protected] so I can address the battery issue you are experiencing as well as the delayed motion detection? I would appreciate this second opportunity to turn your Ring experience around.

This camera is fantastic I really like the solar panal to keep it charged. Can see 3 houses on either side of the street. Watch for predators as we have an issue with that. Because of my tendency to fall my son put up. Took no more than 10-15 minutes for both.

We like this camera. We mounted this on the front door and it captures EVERYTHING that goes on in front of our house in activation range, even the neighbor cat slinking by at 3:17am.
Once the camera is triggered my wife and I both get a notification on our phones and we can even talk live to folks at the door. My wife had a conversation with a neighbor bringing keys back while my wife was miles away.
The 90 second videos are stored in the cloud for reviewing later.

Trade Performance for Convenience

I like these, but I don't love them. Having said that, I've continued to add more to our set up due to convenience, so it's a matter of trading performance for ease of install etc. I started with the Ring Doorbell which I'm overall very happy with, and these appear to be the same exact camera and performance in a very slightly modified package. As such, it seems to me the camera quality and angle of view are better suited to 'close' viewing of the subject rather than viewing of a wide area from further away (I'm using them for both but acknowledging the limitations in resolution and IR illumination reach). Yes, there can be a bit of a lag in loading live video. And, there is often a bit of a delay between the first motion event and the notification / start of recording. This is a little better or worse depending on your WiFi connection etc. I used to install high-end video security for a living and for the price, there are no doubt better performing cameras out there. But the real benefit of these is the completely wireless install, super fast and simple set up, and the apps for both iPhone and MAC are great and continue to get better. When you pair these up with the Solar panel (BestBuy sells it online), these are ready to go without running power, signal, or needing to charge batteries. I especially recommend these if you have a two-story home (no attic to run wires etc.) or just hate messing with wiring, as long as you are 'ok' with less-than-perfect performance. I would give one a try before going all-in to make sure it meets your needs.

Ring Stick Up Cam

The Ring Stick Up Cam is a great security device for people that want the simplicity of installation and operation of the device. If you are familiar with the Ring doorbell, this is pretty much the same thing, with a few exceptions. One, the field of view is more narrow than the doorbell camera. This was not a big deal for my particular installation, but I can see where it could be an issue for others. The second is flexibility. You can put this thing pretty much anywhere. The most difficult thing about the installation is deciding where to put it to get the right view or angle. Once that is done, the install is quick.
The app is great and easy to use. If you want cloud recording, you do have to pay for it.
The only problem I've come across is that in combination light, vehicles going by on my street trigger the motion even though I don't have my distance set that far. Though a little annoying, it wouldn't stop me from buying this product.

It is a great idea. But it burns though the battery very fast. The sound quality is not good on either side. Video quality sucks you cant read a licence plate more than 10 feet away wich goes hand and hand with you are nit going to be able to identify anyone unless they get on top of the camera. Night vision is the worst i have seen in a while. The sensors are not accurate at all. The delay from when it spots something to when it starts recording. Ex. Mail gets delivered should when seen walking down driveway, but only records walking away. Setup and install was easy. Lifetime theft warranty is nice. Notifications are a pain to set up. Did not work for a bit then they decided to work at 3am in 3-4 min intervals with nothing in front of the camera except leaves. That was the last night i had the camera.

I do LIKE my Stick Up Cam from Ring. However, I don't LOVE it. While it's a great cam because it's TOTALLY wireless...not many out there...need a little work on just a few things. First, the positives: Great Price, totally wireless, looks nice, easy to install, great control interface on my iPhone & iPad. Now for the few negatives that are holding it back from being great: Battery life, slow to connect to device (I have super fast Fios) and probably the worst one of all...video freezes up constantly. Basically, it serves it's purpose at my weekend home just so I can 'check in' but don't feel I can get rid of my security company just yet....which I'm looking to do. I'll give Ring time to hopefully fix the little annoying things I'm experiencing so that I can say it's GREAT someday!

First off, I love my Ring Doorbell. I've had this product for 2 days and am not super impressed as of yet. I won't harp on this point but no live view is available yet. I've been told it will be available in 1-2 months.
Very few parts so setup itself is easy. Once setup, the first 24 hours it would log motion activity but wouldn't actually display or record video. I thought initially maybe it was WiFi signal but I had this cam even closer than my Ring Doorbell. I went ahead and moved it even closer, still had the issue. I emailed support and didn't hear back so I ended up calling in. They checked the signal strength for me and said it was fine. Shortly after being on the phone with them it started working so I'm not sure that they didn't do something.
I'm not impressed with their support organization either. I was friendly but they were almost defensive that you would even suggest something is wrong with their products. I even posted a question about my next issue on their Facebook page and my question was deleted.
The other issue I'm having is that I have it mounted on my home's overhang pointed slightly down, motion detection doesn't engage unless you're almost less than 10 feet in front of it. My Ring Doorbell which is pointed straight out picks up motion all the way at the road close to 50 feet away. My thought is that the motion sensor is very direct so the angle of the camera affects the range.
The infrared is also not very strong. In the dark you aren't able to make anything out that's more than 10-15 feet away.
They basically took the Doorbell, removed the doorbell part and called it a Stick Up Cam. I personally would wait for rev 2 and I may end up returning mine.
The good, their cloud storage plans are much more affordable than Nest. Ring is only $30/year for 6 months of history. Keep in mind Ring is only recording motion as to where Nest Cam's are always recording if it's "on". Another positive is that it has a battery so if the power goes out it can still function (as long as your internet router and modem are also on battery backup).
I wanted to love this product but can't say that yet.

On July 31, 2016 we had a home invasion robbery of a neighbor at the end of our street. We live in a very safe neighborhood, but this recent event that involved seven masked men made me wonder if my Security System was really enough. I new I wanted something wireless, with infared vision and two-way talk system. I looked at many of the competing models. All had numerous complaints about poor picture quality, price of iCloud. etc. etc. Here are the pros: Wireless, can be supported by solar panel mounted up to 6 ft. away. Two way talk, you talk to thief or just listen. Infrared 1800hd picture, panoramic with zones that can be customized. Zoom in feature on picture. Wi-fi with Ring's own Cloud. My wife was in OH we are in Pasadena and she was able to talk to me while I was installing last camera. Lifetime guarantee , if camera is stolen Ring replaces it. If it is stolen at least you have audio and visual (close up) of the thief. All info remains on Ring's Cloud until you erase it. Immediate alerts on your iphone or Android when someone enters the camera's zone. Cons: Depending on the strength of your Wi-Fi there is less than a minutes for camera to pick up real time. We added a Wi-Fi booster to solve the problem.
Final Pro: Ring's technical division helps you figure out the best areas to hang your camera. Get the solar panels they are worth every penny.
BTW: Squirrels & opossums love SELFIES!

I purchased 3 Ring Stick Cams and Solar Panels for outside monitoring at my home. The cameras work fine except for the following deficiencies: A) when the camera senses motion it automatically starts recording, however the recording misses what triggered it in the first place so you are not able to see why it triggered unless the person stays in camera view for more than a several seconds. B) The Live View works only intermittently (<50% of the time). Ring Customer Service claims it is due to a weak signal at the cameras. I even purchased a high end Netgear Extender to go with an existing high end Netgear Router which is within 35' of the cams with no improvement. Ring claims the router needs to be within 20' of the camera. This is unreasonable, particularly with multiple cameras. My opinion is that the antennas in the cameras are not of very good quality. Rings Customer Service group is awesome and does try to help as much as they can.
