This is a great learning tool. I've had a guitar for numerous years and learned some chords from books and a little from the internet but never had the money to pay for serious lessons. For the price of this game and a guitar you are well on your way to learning. It will work with any electric guitar but ones without a tremolo are best since you will be retuning on different songs. It is well set up and you can choose to do lessons one day , work on a song the next day and play arcade mode the next. It really keeps it from getting boring as you can vary what you do. This is learning a real guitar so don't think you will be shredding overnight because it can be frustrating when you have to sit there for 30 minutes trying to get a lesson or phrase correct. However it is very rewarding when you do. If you are just starting be forewarned it will take a couple of weeks before your fingertips develop callouses so they will be tender. This is where arcade works great because when your fingers get tired or sore you can rest them and work on the games which involve your strumming hand. I've only had this for several weeks but I'm surprised at the tips and techniques I've learned already. The only negative comment I have is sometimes I know I'm on the correct note and string but it does not register correctly. So make sure you are in tune and not pressing down too hard on the strings since this can change the pitch. I put in about an hour or more a day so it takes dedication if you want to get good. The game also gives you goals to shoot for. I highly recommend it.

I bought the original Rocksmith a couple years ago and thought it was pretty good. The big issue with the original was the massive amounts of lag between you plucking your strings and the sound coming from the tv. I didn't get into it too much. Rochsmith 2014 on the other hand has improved it so much that it's barely noticable. I still recommend using headphones when playing the game because it helps improve the lag that much more. There is so much in this game. I personally began my journey to learn the song "Carry on wayward my son" by Kansas. The ability to slow down the song and only play small parts now is especially helpful to get those harder parts learned. It's got a bunch of great songs and the tutorials are extremely helpful as well. I'm an intermeditate guitar player and have found everything in that game to be extremely useful. Plus I was learning how to really get the tapping down. I loved the song they have you play to try and learn that better. I recommend this game to anyone willing to actually learn the guitar or even those who are already really good. They can still learn some of the best guitar songs out there. There's no limitations anymore unlike with the first game.

This is my first attempt at learning to play the guitar. I've had this for about a week now and it is very good so far. I've got my guitar tuned and played a few songs, which gradually get more and more in depth as I go. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in learning guitar basics.

A great program for anyone who wants to learn to play guitar. This version is better than RockSmith 2012 because it lets play different songs instead of the same one over and over. It also doesn't make you tune your guitar after every song

My wife and I bought this for our 17 year old son for Christmas. He has been playing guitar for just over a year, but teaches his self. He has been doing good, but this game has helped hi,m to learn a few more songs already. he said it's easy to get going and is already asking if there is other ones with more songs. If you have kids wanting to play guitar, or you just want to learn yourself then this is the game for you.

this game can really teach you how to play. Its great. taken 1 star off as it doesn't tell you what you're doing wrong. Like this one training session I was doing kept me at 95% accuracy and I wanted to reach a 100% before moving to the next level. I didn't know what I was doing wrong till a friend told me and I could reach a 100%. but overall a great game. I actually feel I will be able to play a guitar in sometime if I consistently play this game.

Within 5 minutes we were doing guitar lessons. The guitar effects sound great, top notch. We started on beginner level and the lessons seem appropriate and easy to follow. Of course there's room to improve. I'd like to see music staff options to see the notes on the staff, but maybe it's in there and we just haven't gotten there yet.

The hour spent playing the game are productive. You entertain yourself and learn to play guitar at the same time. A great way to make practice fun.

I've been using this program for about a month and so far I love it! It has really helped me learn how to play bass and I love the interactive aspect. My only complaint is this: when Rocksmith adds notes to the complexity of the song it can really throw you off. It would be nice if they included the tabs for the entire song so that you could look it over when you're not trying to play it at the same time. Still, it's a great buy and I would highly recommend this one for anyone who wants to learn to play bass.

Great for guitar beginners...Kinect version not so

I read the glowing reviews on many online gaming sites about this updated Rocksmith and figured I'd give it a shot. I had an acoustic guitar sitting around that I had intended to learn years ago. The good? The lessons start right at the beginning, and ease you into guitar basics. Because of the slick graphics and backup audio which accompanies your most likely at first awful plucking it makes starting out much more fun than it would be otherwise. My only issue is the Kinect integration on this Xbox 360 version. I have both the PS3 and Xbox 360 so it was a toss up in the store as to which version to get. The Kinect integration SOUNDED like a winner. Once I started it up however, I realized it's anything but. I could not even start the lessons because EVERY time I plucked a note, the Kinect thought I had said 'Back' and started the intro all over again. Needless to say, I had to unplug the Kinect to get past the intro and then I could get into the Options to turn off voice recognition. I hope your setup allows you better Kinect functionality, but for me, having the Kinect hear a command with every other note was an exercise in frustration. Good game, bad Kinect integration.

Great improvement over the original. It doesn't make you check tuning every time you go to another area. I was able to bring in the original Rocksmith songs for $9.99. This is a great learning tool. It is instructional and fun. My playing has definitely improved by playing this game. Highly recommended.
