When the series originally aired, I was able to catch it sporadically. Boyfriend had never heard of it, so I purchased the series after Christmas (one-time unbelievable sale). Wasn't sure if he'd be offended at the occasional brutality and sexually explicit scenes. He was hooked by the story line. First night we watched one episode, then the next...and by 1:00AM we were still saying: " OK...just one more!" The story centers around 2 Roman soldiers-their unlikely friendship and how Caesar came to power, his demise and all that follows. Truly gripping. Sorry I hadn't purchased two sets, because the sale is no longer offered. The asking price of $60.00 is still a value and an investment that is well worth the entertainment. After we had finished watching all episodes, we watched it all over again. Not for children.

ROME was an awesome HBO series and because it was an HBO series it contains nudity, and subject matter NOT suitable for children. The main characters portrayed are historically based. Very well done production.

Great show with lots of fun characters. It was wonderful to have both seasons together in the boxed set. Family dysfunction. Treachery. Betrayal. Coarse profanity. The best of everything for a series.

Good condensed version of a length of time in history. Good historical drama that was easy to watch ...not overly concerned with huge amounts of accurate historical detail.

couldn't stay too involved in it. I don't know exactly why...maybe I was looking for something to occupy my Game of Thrones time and it didn't match up???

If you've ever wanted to own a quality film series that you can watch over and over and never get bored,..this is it. Filled with breathtaking set productions and costume design, this masterpiece of film making is certainly one of a kind. I would say it easily surpasses the Cleopatra Oscar sensation of the sixties. The characters are vivid and dialog (though brittish) stirs the imagination and will have you "locked in" and watching for hours. Beware that there are scenes and subject matter unsuitable for the young. The only downside is that the series ended after the second season, just when the more interesting history of Rome was to begin. Add this one to your collection. A definite must have.

I heard so much about this series and don't have HBO so I never had a chance to see it. This was a blind buy for me. I got it on sale and I was not disappointed. The acting, plot and cinematography are excellent. There is an abundance of interesting bonus features. If you are into history, this is definitely a must own. WARNING - There is a lot of nudity, language and violence, so like Spartacus, this is not a family film for the kiddies to watch. My only complaint is that HBO ended the series after only 2 seasons just when it was getting really good! Buy it next time it goes on sale and learn about history while being entertained!

Originally saw this on HBO several years ago but did not catch all of the series. Would have liked to seen the series include the fall of Rome. Characters where decieving and cruel. enjoyed this series very much.

This is a great section of of time that shows What happened in Rome to show who it came to rule most of the world.

This was a Christmas present for my husband and it was very nicely packaged and the extras were great.
