A solid upgrade from the last generation of Chrome

inally received my Samsung Chromebook 2 (11.6" version, jet black color) and have had a day to get it set up, mess around with it, and compare it to my Acer C720 Chromebook (2GB), as well as my previous experiences with the original Samsung Chromebook that was released back in 2012. My initial up front experience is that I am overall very satisfied with the improvements that Samsung has made! There are some areas I wish they improved, but overall for the price, this is an outstanding way to experience the Chrome OS. I'll touch on a few of my in-depth thoughts below, and I'll update this all in the future as I have more experience with the device. I'm going to focus more on the hardware and less on the operating system or software, since the OS will remain fairly consistent across all Chromebook devices and plenty of information already exists about Chrome OS online: Design/Materials/Build Quality: As mentioned above, I went with the jet black version. This new Chromebook 2 features Samsungs "stitched leather" design to the outside of the top shell, similar to what you see if you have ever used their Galaxy Note 3. It stands out a lot more when you see it spread across a much larger device like this. I'm going to be honest, I think some people are going to find this slightly tacky looking/feeling (especially the fake stitching around the edges), but personally I am a much bigger fan of it than I thought. For a computing device in this price range, you cannot really expect them to be able to throw on a full aluminum/metal case like you might find on a MacBook Pro or a higher end Ultrabook laptop. You're going to get something that is plastic or a more cost effective material, and honestly, I kind of like the way that this faux-leather design makes it stand out from other devices. And the overall build quality of the Chromebook 2 feels much improved over the original. It doesn't have as much "flex" to it, and even though it is still almost entirely plastic-based, it certainly feels like a step up. Also, compared to my Acer C720 side by side, the Samsung CB2 feels significantly higher in quality.

    Beware of screen resolution

Wow, terribly disappointed. Got a great deal on this for $99 on Black Friday sale 2018. Have a Acer Chromebook and wanted another to keep at the office. While the specs seemed pretty typical for my needs, however I forgot to check screen resolution. Man, this thing is pretty unusable...screen is grainy and text is disjointed. Doubled check the settings and set to best size for this type of screen but in a world of HD screens everywhere I had forgotten what it was like back in like 1995 when screen resolution was this poor. It is unusable and I will be returning it. Learned once again a $99 sale on a laptop probably means that it's worth only $99, that's the case in this situation. Don't buy...

Samsung Chrome Book, like it so far

I purchased this at my local Best Buy. This is a good alternative to a tablet and much easier to use. Light weight but works just like a lap top with limited abilities. So far the Chrome book works fine. It is not fast like a $500.00 to $1000.00 lap top but it is easy to read emails and respond on an actual keyboard using the Logitech wireless tablet which I also purchased the same day. You can see in photos the Samsung Chrome Book opened with the Logitech wireless tablet along side. Both excellent price at my local Best Buy.

It is solid not flimsy.Screen is pretty good.Battery life is about 10 hours and it barely gets warm.I was leary at first since it has 2gb memory but I've had 7plus tabs open and no lag.Really impressed and I got it for $99.99 with student discount.I bought it as I have windows updates, having to buy a security suite that needs updates and windows is so buggy and glitchy too. With this I bought a 128gb USB.It just works and is very responsive.I love that I can view adult material and not worry about catching anything really.I hope that isn't TMI but that is what I mainly use it for.

A Samsung Chromebook for $99? Sign me up! It's a nice little unit for a hundred bucks. Small and light, but a solid build. It runs on Chrome (obviously) so with not a lot of bloat to weigh it down it's ready to go seconds after powering on. Sign into your Google account and you're off to the races! Or, not.... the 2 GB RAM can make certain tasks a little cumbersome, especially streaming video. But, hey. It was only $99, right? You'll be thinking that a lot as you use this machine. 16GB isn't a lot of storage, but at least that's expandable. A Chromebook is essentially a glorified Android tablet for enhanced use and multitasking. This one does the job okay.

    Great Little Chromebook

I love this little chromebook. I use it for basic web-browsing, email, and Microsoft Office applications to keep track of business expenses and P&L!!! It has great battery time, fits perfectly in my shoulder bag, and seems to have great durability. My only complaint is the charge port. The adapter is small and fits loosely in the port and constantly comes unplugged. Other than that, it is a wonderful solution for basic computing, email and web browsing on the go! Connects easily to Mobile hotspot on my IPhone when needed!!!

If all you need to do is surf the web and use basic Microsoft office, this is a great inexpensive laptop for you. It’s lightweight, compact, and does the job well. However, it is unable to run full versions of Microsoft office, only the basic versions, so I was unable to use Microsoft Excel the way I needed to. If you need the full capabilities of any Microsoft Office program, I would get a different laptop. Otherwise, this is a great choice for the price.

    Unreliable Bottom Shelf Unit

This unit has been a constant disappointment. First, the unit is under powered. Hard to believe when Google is a stripped down system operating off apps and extensions. Second, the production quality is terrible. Had a screen replaced after two months. Now it takes forever to start up and doesn't sign into my Google account. Regret making this purchase. Choose a better unit, you will pay more, or another brand. In my opinion Samsung's budget products are a consistent disappointment (purchased a budget HDMI TV some time ago- same types of problems).

This is a great internet appliance, much like you'd use a blender or other appliance. It's simple to use: -You can write documents in Google Drive -Go online and stream video. -Access Social Media -It's like an Amazon Fire with a bigger screen and keyboard -Great for business meetings -Great for kids to do homework For $99 (Black Friday deal), how can you go wrong. DON'T expect to use this for gaming and other high-end uses. Keep your regular computer for that stuff.

I needed a cheap, reliable, laptop-like device to take with me to Europe. This fit the bill - light, small, easily portable. All my hotels had wifi so I was able to keep up with work, record the videos I needed to post, and construct docs. Only negative - the keyboard mouse stinks, and the cursor keeps jumping up a few rows when left unused for a few seconds. I constantly had to reposition it and make sure I was typing in the right place. A real pain!!!!

I first bought the chrome book as a Christmas present for my 15 year old son. Then I bought another one for my 13 year old son for school !! It was such a success with them I decided to buy one for my 8 year old daughter. They each love it !! Each of them are on it for hours. For either school or leisure!! It is super fast, light to carry, connects to WiFi quickly, great performance and quick access to all sites, secure browsing and surfing, and easy to use right out the box! We have no complaints. Thanks Best Buy !

I purchased this Chromebook for my 10 year-old son because he uses Chromebooks at school and it’s easy to get his school assignments using Google Classroom. This has been a great first experience with a Chromebook we own. It’s so user-friendly, my son actually set it up himself. I like that you do not have to worry about virus protection as you would with a regular laptop. Truth be told, I don’t know how it compares to other Chromebooks in the market, but 2 ½ months in, we’ve encountered no obstacles in using this one.

The HD space is limited, to simply be able to access the USB to be able to load boot programs such as Linux requires you to go into developer mode which sounds easy but isn't once you realize that buying a used Laptop still has the password that cant be removed even with a Powerwash which is the name used to erase everything "completely" but doesnt work on the root account for developer mode. this is great for basic access to the internet and downloading on external HD but it also doesnt support anything for windows or linux directly.

Worst product to buy . After 4 months chargers stop working. 2 weeks later WiFi is not connected to device. I sent it to manufacture they told me that it was water damage. I don’t know how water get into device and Samsung represent told me that I have to pay $ 169 to fix it. They don’t even don’t know I can buy same product brand new for $ 149 at Best Buy. Any way I would not buy this product again. Please think twice before you buy this product.

This was a impulse buy during black friday for $99. For the price it is excellent. I only use it for web browsing, checking emails, printing out coupons & using google sheets, keep and all other google apps. The downside is some apps not compatible like one note does not work as an app but for online web use only. So make sure that apps you want to use are compatible before purchase. It is a chromebook not a pc laptop so software won't be compatible.

If you're looking for an on-the-go laptop, this one fits the bill. While it requires internet for full functionality (which, face it, what laptop these days doesn't?), you can't beat the price, weight, or output of this little beast. Okay.. that was a bit overboard, but the point being, if you just need a work laptop or an occasional browser, this is a good one to get.

A user manual is needed. I finally went to my desktop and found the manual online and printed it. Not everyone is 12 YO and grew up using these devices. The keypad is not the expanded (101 key?) format most desktop users are familiar with. -no delete key for instance. Certainly better than trying to use a telephone for texting due to larger keys and display, but somewhat frustrating nonetheless.

My husband kept stealing my Chromebook (even though he has a Mac desktop AND a laptop of his own). He liked the convenience of being able to transport my small Chromebook and have quick access to the Internet. So...I bought him his own! He hasn't gotten it yet. But, based on the one I already have, I know that this is an incredible item and will make him extremely happy on Christmas morning!!!

If you only need it for web browsing, this is your device. However, if you need to be video chatting or even run a lot of tabs at one time, this device has difficulty keeping up with 10 tabs at a time. Especially if you're running regular chrome alongside incognito, this can't really handle it. Overall, I was a little disappointed, but this isn't meant to be a powerful machine.

I was looking for a small net-book type mini windows laptop as a gift for someone who uses mac. I only needed it to run one financial program. Surprise! this laptop doesn't have windows and can't run pc software. I had to return it and ordered what I was looking for from Walmart. I'm sure it's probably good for what it is. I'm a pc person though...
