Sound is okay, but for the price this thing should not consistently lose the connection. It also doesn't match the tv. I would say there's a half second lag between people's mouths and the sound coming out? It's really annoying. We've had this thing for a year now and I should have returned it when we had the chance because it really sucks.

As someone who has a 7.2 system in my family room, sound while watching any program is very important to me. I recently added the added the Samsung Soundbar Q70R to my bedroom to raise the bar (no pun intended) on our viewing experience. The packaging for the Q70R is pretty standard fare – raised L shape to accommodate the accompanying subwoofer. Upon pulling it out of the box, two things immediately got my attention. First, the shape of the soundbar was different than others. The ends are tapered a bit and not cubed, with speaker grate on the top as well as the front. The second is the size of the subwoofer. It has a slim footprint but is a little taller than others I have seen. It would seem this thing is designed to handle larger rooms if necessary. My bedroom is pretty big, but the Q70R seems to be up to the challenge of the den or family room experience as well. The remote is very simple with few buttons. Initially, I wondered if it would be functional enough. Using it tells you it is. Installation and setup are standard, but at this point in the game, there is one thing more I am expecting from the soundbar industry: more than a single HDMI input. There is a workaround with build in ARC (you can essentially connect everything directly to the TV and allow it to pass audio back to the soundbar), but for simple setup with direct audio, we need at least a couple of HDMI inputs. That would mean the unit would have to manage an HDMI board and switch at that point, but come on… it’s 2019! I should at least be able to connect a streaming device and a disc player to high-end soundbar. The Q70R has a neat little digital display on the right side of the bar that reveals current state, mode changes, etc. It’s small, but scrolls to reveal longer text. It is also big enough for visibility at a respectable distance. Well, how does this thing perform? The Q70R is a 3.12 channel surround system. It has distinct channels for left, right, and center, while offering Dolby Atmos as well (hence the speaker grate on top of the bar). I felt the sound was more than admirable, if not at times surprising. Audio movement across channels was distinct and clear. The subwoofer performed well too. Samsung has done a good job with the sound blend and it should be noted. I actually feel the Q70R has big sound and should be considered in a family room setting, but too large of a room could cause you to lose some of the sound experience. Overall, I like this soundbar. It’s easy to setup, has build in ARC, and produces consistent, clear sound with effects. I don’t think anyone looking for a quality soundbar would be disappointed.

The Samsung HW-Q70R is a great looking soundbar with solid construction. The soundbar is not very high so it wont block you screen on a stand, you can also wall mount it. A mounting kit with template is included. There is one HDMI input, one HDMI output with ARC an optical digital audio input and Bluetooth. The USB port is for updates. The HDMI ports support 4K@60p, 4:4:4, HDCP 2.2, Dolby Vision, HDR10,10+ and HLG. There is an LED display on the bar that will light up when you adjust the volume or change the sound mode, it dims after a while, great in a darkened room. You can adjust the sound, input and power on the bar itself but the remote is easier. The remote is standard Samsung style, easy to use, slim and light. This is a 3.1.2 soundbar with 330W output. And a great Subwoofer. The 8 inch bass speaker is great for movies as well as music. There are 2 speakers for Atmos that face upward, they bounce sound off your ceiling to give the illusion of sound at different heights. Samsung has used Harmon Kardon’s expertise to tune this system for TV, movies, sports, gaming and even great music. You get most Dolby Atmos and DTX versions supported. If you want to expand the system optional rear speakers are available. The sound out of this system is fantastic. You have the Standard mode that leaves sound as it was, Surround adds dimensional quality horizontally to the sound and Atmos or DTX really expand that vertically. There is a game mode that will leave you feeling like you are right in the middle of the action! I did notice the dialog was clearer than my Sony Atomos bar. The sounds that are supposed to be behind you are a little less well represented than systems with rear speakers but they are great for a 3.1.2 system. I would highly recommend getting the rears if you want the best experience. For the price this is a well tuned great sounding soundbar. If your TV does not have enough HDMI inputs for your devices you will need a switch, make sure you purchase one that handles all the modes and will not limit what passes to the soundbar.

    Simply Amazing Sound Bar!!!!

Samsung Harman Kardon Q70R Sound Bar is simply amazing. Samsung made a sleek, powerful, and well balanced piece of technology. I am very satisfied with the experience this sound bar has created in my home. Please find below the pros and cons I have experienced with this product. PROS: The unboxing experience was simply amazing! Packaging on the interior of the box was sound and kept the product safe while displaying its beauty at the same time! The setup process was very simple and the instructions provided were clear and informative. Wireless subwoofer is very sleek, yet packs a punch. Very good subwoofer for a “theater” experience at home. The speaker system inside the sound bar itself is amazing! So many settings and ways to customize your listening experience. This sound bar has a dedicated center speaker which is a big plus so voices project right to you! Option to connect wireless rear speakers for complete surround sound. Ease of use. CONS: The box that it arrived in was very heavy and the carrying slots were very weak and ripped when picking up the sound bar. Slots on the bottom of the sound bar are tight when you are using HDMI cables instead of Bluetooth or other form of connection. Adaptive sound is sometimes not so adaptive and needs work. Remote is a little tricky due to the buttons not being marked as to the function of the button. You will need to read the manual to figure out each button compared to previous Samsung remotes. CONCLUSION: I would recommend this product to anyone in the market for a sound bar. It is not only pleasing to your ears, but it is visually appealing to any home decor due to it’s sleek and well balanced design. This product is great for casual tv viewing, intense movie marathons, and/or hardcore gamers! Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed in my opinion.

    Decent sound

We all know that most TV speakers are a little lacking when it comes to sound quality. You might get lucky sometimes, where it is pretty good, but it still may depend on the room you are in. The TV we have in our Family Room is an almost 7 year old Samsung and has decent speakers, but it really doesn't turn up very loud. The issue we have with sound in that room may be that it is a 2-story ceiling with no wall behind the couch. Hoping to improve the sound in there, we decided to get the Samsung Harman Kardon Q70R. I've had good experience with Harman Kardon speakers in the past, so was hoping this would work for us. It seems that the issue with the room layout may also be the case with soundbar systems. Since everything we watch is through streaming apps/OTA DVR (using a Roku since this is an "older" TV, even though it is a Smart TV), the TV is connected to the soundbar via HDMI ARC. It does allow you to control the soundbar volume using the TV remote. For input modes, there is the D.IN/HDMI ARC, HDMI, WiFi and Bluetooth. There is a single HDMI IN port, which would allow you to connect an external device (Blu-ray player, set top box, etc.) but not sure if it allow video/audio pass-through if it isn't turned on. The sound modes available are Surround, Game Pro, Adaptive an Standard. Adaptive almost worked for us, but we just have to go with Standard (which barely was good enough, but better with setting the Equalizer using the SmartThings app -- See below). That is fine since we are just watching our TV shows we've recorded (movies are watched in the media room). For us, using Surround just has a hollow sound to it (as that mode did on the TV speakers), but it may just be because of the lack of walls/lower ceiling to bounce the sound off to get the best effect. The wireless subwoofer isn't overpowering, wall-shaking, but it does sound pretty good (hard to compare to the big subwoofer we have in the media room). There is a separate rocker volume button for the subwoofer, with a quick-press of the button to set it back to 0. You can also connect to and control different aspects of the soundbar using the Samsung SmartThings app. There aren't many settings available in the app, but can change the Volume, Input Source, Equalizer (for Standard mode only), (Sub)Woofer volume, and set a Sleep Timer. For some reason, I had issues getting it added to SmartThings, getting stuck part of the way through, then failing. After unplugging the soundbar and plugging it back it, I was finally able to get it added. From there, I was able to link it through our Google Home, but you can only turn it on and off there. You can also connect it to Alexa, and there are more commands available there. Connecting to a phone or tablet via bluetooth is quick and easy. I will say playing music through it does sound pretty good. All in all, this is a decent soundbar, just not quite what we were hoping for. For us, it definitely wouldn't replace a full surround sound system, luckily it wasn't intended to do so.

DESCRIPTION: Nice streamlined design so that it can fit just about anywhere. Brackets included, if you want to mount this on the wall. Four buttons on the side of the soundbar for volume up, volume down, power and changing input source. Remote comes with it and has basic buttons. Love the wireless subwoofer, saves on having more wires around. There are 4 sound modes: Standard, Surround, Game Pro and Adaptive Sound. The Adaptive Sound is new and analyses incoming audio and adapts it so you get the best sound on a scene by scene basis. Standard mode is basic audio, surround adds a more immersion of sounds and the game pro is for gaming and really puts you into the game. OBSERVATIONS: This soundbar has excellent sound quality with your HDMI connection. Make sure you have an “ARC” HMDI input on your TV, otherwise you need a digital audio cable port on your TV to have this work. If you have trouble with voice clarity through your TV speakers, this soundbar will work great because it has a dedicated center channel to make voices much clearer and easier to hear. For some reason I am very sensitive to this and am always saying…”What did he say?”. This clears up the problem for me and especially others that I annoy. I don’t have that adjustment on my TV itself to correct that, so now I rely on the soundbar to correct it for me. You can Bluetooth any audio device that has Bluetooth to this soundbar, so that you can hear all of your favorite music. SETUP: Setup is fairly simple once you are sure you have the right components for this. Plug the HDMI cord in the ARC input on your TV and on the soundbar, plug the soundbar and subwoofer into an outlet and follow the easy instructions. For an even better sound, I got the compatible Samsung – Wireless Rear Loudspeakers. I bought the kit to enhance the surround sound experience. It is so worth it. SmartThings APP: The first thing I did was download the SmartThings app. This controls many things for the soundbar from your smart phone, such as volume, input source, adjust the woofer for more or less bass, customize the equalizer or use one of the equalizer presets. You can also set a sleep timer for any amount of time you would like. ALEXA/GOOGLE ASSIST: It is Alexa/Google Assist compatible. This is what I found to work for me. ALEXA: You need to add the Samsung soundbar to the SmartThings app and enable through Alexa, the SmartThings skill. Voice activation will only allow me to control the on and off by simply saying “Alexa, turn on (or off) Samsung sound bar”. GOOGLE: Open the Google Assist app, click on “Add”. Go to “Setup Device”. Click on “Works with Google”. Look for “SmartThings” and click on it. It will link your SmartThings app with Google Assist. Voice activation will only allow me to control the on and off by simply saying, “Ok Google, turn on (or off) Samsung sound bar”. There may be more I can do with voice assistant devices, I just haven’t discovered them yet and there is not much on the internet I have found to educate me any further.

To say that I am impressed with the Q70 Soundbar and Wireless Sub combo would be an understatement. From the moment I started unboxing I was blown away! Everything was very easy to get out and install, I was up and running in about 10 minutes. If you have never had a wireless subwoofer, you are missing out. It is so easy, and sounds great! The Atmos is phenomenal on this too, I cannot believe the sound from such a small package! Even though I did not use them yet it even came with wall mounts, those will definitely come in handy. I give this soundbar setup a 10/10!

This soundbar is excellent for its price once I figured out how to get atmos to work. It only works on external devices because of limitations with current HDMI arc capabilities. However having my xbox one x plugged into this works perfectly. I get atmos on Netflix and UHD Blu Ray discs as well as on games that have it added natively and that list is growing. If you've got the great visuals of 4k and HDR dont cheap out on the audio 4k hdr and atmos are transforming experience. Obviously there are much better atmos soundbars if your willing to pay 1300 plus but if your on a budget this is a great midrange option to get your foot in the door. I personally really recommend the rear wireless speaker kit Samsung sells, they may not have up firing speakers but they still go along way to completing the 3D sound from the bar. Just really hoping Samsung eventually releases a atmos compatible rear wireless kit eventually. Also if connecting xbox or blu ray make sure you are cables are High speed premium 2.0 HDMI with ethernet or you will get no passthrough. Also on non atmos content still the best sounding soundbar I've ever had.

This is a great addition to my home theater system but one issue I am having is the HDMI ARC connection to my 70" Vizio 4K TV that is 3 years old. I have done all of the reccomended settings, power cycled both the TV and sound bar, reset both and still can't get it to work right. It glitches from D.IN mode to ARC and the sound goes dull for roughly 10 seconds every 5 minutes while watching any content. I have been told it has to be a problem with my TV. Previously my HDMI ARC port was utilized by my direct TV box and it was never an issue but it will not work correctly with this sound bar. I've consulted Samsung support, they were helpful but ultimately it's not fixed. So for now I am connected via Optical and it looks like I will be getting a new QLED samsung TV in order to use the HDMI ARC feature and enjoy Dolby Atmos. Great way to get consumers to bundle your products Samsung! Cant wait to check out the QLED Tech.

I’ve had my Q70R since Black Friday of 2019. Within the couple weeks I ordered rear speakers (SWA-9000S), the Dolby atmos with the sound bar alone was good but left much to be desired when it came to high intensity movies and music. After getting the rear speakers though. After setting the rear level to 6 I couldn’t be happier. The sound fills any room and the Dolby atmos will blow your mind, when I first got it I spent an hour listening to atmos demos. The only complaint I have is the bar not having a “night mode” setting like the other models like it. The system is very loud even at 20%, my solution to this is switching back to my tv speakers when it’s late. If you can get this sound bar for around $600 it’s a steal. Personally $800 is steep imo but you get what you pay for.
