On 9/1/2015 I retired after 40 years with the Sheet Metal Workers. The following week I went to Best Buy and bought a Samsung 65” curved screen TV. Sometime in 2022 it started to develop white slashes from the top of both corners, and another disappointing thing it wasn’t a very smart TV. Several of the Premium + station I couldn’t get. It just didn’t have the smarts to get to these! So it was time, with the continued developing white slashes and the TV being dumb, to get the biggest and smartest TV that Best Buy had on the floor. The Samsung 85” 8K Television! Super Bowl will be Super!
PS Kudos to the sales associate though I don’t have his name. I purchased at the Greenwood, IN store on :12/12/22 delivered and installed Geek squad also top notch on 1/11/23!

I really like Samsungs picture but the sound coming from an expensive flagship television should be better than this. The speakers can’t handle and base from movies and forget about playing music. I would give Samsung a higher rating if they could just make it worth buying the TV with quality sound and a picture. I know most of you reading. This are going to say that you should have a sound bar, I do have a sound bar, but there are times when I don’t want the television to be as loud because other people may be sleeping. I don’t know if my television would be considered a lemon because of the speaker quality or is this how all of their higher in television’s sound. If any of you other owners of this television could chime in on what you think about the sound, I would love to hear what you have to say. If your experience with the sound is better, maybe I have to get my television repaired.

Picture Quality vs. Audio Quality

We recently purchased the Samsung-85-class-qn900b-neo-qled-8k-smart-tizen-TV. The picture quality is stellar. The audio quality is NOT! On the second morning of ownership, I turned on the TV and began watching a program. As I listened to the program, i began noticing a buzz/vibration relating to the audio. My attention turned to the back of the TV. I watched as at least two of the eight drivers/woofers were vibrating and the plastic caps were buzzing against the surrounding plastic outer rings. I did not have the TV set at a high volume level. The problem only occurs at certain frequencies. I proceeded to try to find an adjustment in the settings menu that would allow me to lower the bass response. There isn't one. There are many settings to personalize the picture, but very few for audio. After reading other reviews i found that I am not the only one with this problem. Since this is a known issue, will there be a firmware update to make the much needed audio adhustments to correct the problem? Again, NO complaint regarding picture quality. It's like driving a very expensive automobile with an AM radio for the audio system. Would i still recommend this TV? Absolutely YES! I could return it, but the picture quality is amazing! We have a Samsung speaker tower and a 7.1 surround sound audio system to carry the audio. Even so, the onboard audio with this TV needs to be tweeked with some type of firmware update.

gospelsongwriter,
We're glad to hear your 85" QN900B is providing you with a great image! We appreciate your feedback regarding the vibrating/rattling sound you’re hearing, which may be caused by the speaker’s woofer. This can occur when the TV’s volume is very high. However, we are working to resolve this with an upcoming firmware update. Please make sure you have Auto Updates enabled: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update

Awesome picture I’d recommend it if you have 8k AVR ( I have Denon AVR A110)and a PS5 especially! Gotta have surround sound. Kind of a given if purchasing this tv though. If you’re not upgraded to 8k AVR w nice speakers I’d recommend the 4K version instead and save yourself the extra money. I also a 4K version of this tv in my living room.

The picture it’s not that sharp or clear dimming. Maybe because my tv receiver device it’s old not transfer high quality pictures I’m not sure. Plus the sound bar. No ARC hdmi output separate in the background. It’s just the 4 output hdmi. Which means if i connect my receiver device at the same line of the hdmi the sound won’t work out no sound bar. Because the tv won’t recognize two devices at the same time the Tv will though it’s pc device not something else if that case I will contact the sound bar to the pc device . If you are going to pick the other option for the sound bar with the small cable extension then you won’t be able to control the sound only for your phone on the app +/- for the sound bar itself. Plus it won’t be the same sound quality if you picked the hdmi extension cable to plug in with the Tv. After all it’s personal preference to buy this tv. And it’s new to me this tv and I’m still learning more about. Last things I noticed there is a bit of heating going up in the back attached device that comes with the tv plus the tv it’s also getting heat up from the back. Not sure if that normal. But better to keep enough space between the tv and the wall for the air.

Zoony,
We appreciate you sharing your review. Please know your QN900B TV features HDMI eARC/ARC support in HDMI port number 3. Your receiver can absolutely be connected and output sound.
Your TV can also recognize as many devices as you have connected. There are a few things you may need to enable such as Anynet+ for further external device connectivity and Input Signal Plus to improve your picture clarity.
Please ensure Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) is enabled on your TV. With Anynet+, you can control external devices that are connected to your TV with HDMI using your TV remote. To turn on Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC), go to: Settings > All Settings > Connection > External Device Manager > Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC).
You can use Input Signal Plus (also known as HDMI UHD Color) to optimize and expand the input range for HDMI connectivity. Your device should be instantly recognized, and this setting will turn on automatically. If for some reason this doesn't happen, please follow these steps: - Navigate to Settings > All Settings > Connection > External Device Manager > Input Signal Plus = On.
When connecting external audio devices, please also be sure you are using a high-speed HDMI cable with Ethernet Channel (sometimes called HDMI HEC cable). Also be sure to enable HDMI-eARC in the Expert Settings menu. Lastly, please also verify that you are running the latest firmware. You can check to see what software version your TV is using and if there is an available update through the settings on your TV. Go to: Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update.
Watching TV for an extended period of time causes the panel to generate heat. The heat from the panel is dissipated through internal vents running along the top of the TV. The bottom, however, may feel hot to the touch after extended use. This heat, however, is not a defect and does not affect the TV's functionality.

Picture not as sharp as OLED models. Terrible sound with a vibrating speaker. TV is tilted upwards about 5 degrees on stand rather than 90 degrees affecting viewing. Returning this garbage television which has been another ordeal. Incompetent third party delivery Best Buy has and inefficient customer service.

Bought this tv open box. It is amazing!! Hdmi 2.1 ports work flawlessly, great for series x and PS5 gaming. Very little blooming. No dirty screen effect. Its thin and light for an 85in 8k tv.
Best picture quality out of other competitors hands down!
The list of pros go on for days.
The cons:
The price! OMG its exspensive! I only bought one because I found an open box unit. BTW a little secret to getting a high quality tv from Samsung is to buy the open box display unit of last years model that was on the wall in the store on display. Pretty sure Samsung hand selects the best units to put on display at BestBuy.
The menu is another con. It is confusing and tKes too many clicks to get into the input sources.
Lastly, still no dolby vision suppoerr on samsung tv's. Enough already samsung, drink the koolaid, and get onboard.
Thise are my only complaints. If you can get past though few issues, this tv is a MUDT HAVE!!!

You often hear the old adage “You get what you pay for!” Well, in this case, that saying is certainly true. This is an expensive television, but it also is top of the line when it comes to features. There is a larger 95 inch LG that is available, but that runs even more money at about $27k and only is a 4k set. This TV is 8k AND it upscales all video to 8k with the aid of its internal processing power.
So first thing you notice with this TV is that it is HUGE mounted on a wall but also amazingly thin. Seriously..it measures just a hair over a half inch thick! The included remote is simple and can charge via USB or solar cells on the back of the remote.
Turning this TV is quick and you are very soon impressed with the image quality. Even with normal cable TV, the colors really pop and the image is extremely bright using the default “Intelligent” picture settings. I had to turn the brightness down to only about 18 (out of 50) because it literally hurt my eyes at times with how bright it could be. Having the brightness up that high (40 to 50 range is how it ships), will also let you literally feel the heat coming off of the unit after many minutes of use.
AV forums recommend using the “filmmaker” picture mode, but to me, it seemed dull and less lively with the colors, so I’ve left the “intelligent” picture settings on and decreased the brightness as I mentioned. Colors are amazing and skin tones look great. If you stream some 4k or the semi-8k videos that you can get on YouTube these days, you will be floored. It truly is an amazing TV and looks better to me than any of my smaller 4k sets. This is good because normally, larger TV’s are not as sharp with their pictures as smaller sets. This TV is the exception, in my opinion.
The TV comes with a selection of digital subscription apps that you can quickly and easily access using the remote control. Other apps can be downloaded. The standards from Amazon and Netflix to Apple Plus and Disney are available. They work really well too and run FAST. ALL the menus and apps on this TV are very snappy and responsive, which is nice. I’ve seen plenty of TV’s in the past that run apps like Netflix as if they are moving thru Jello.
The viewing angle of this set is insane. If you’re not directly to the side of it, you’ll be able to see the picture. This TV also uses what Samsung calls a “Smartbox” to connect all your cables and inputs. This is nice because if you have the TV mounted on a wall, you don’t have the visual or hassle of having a bunch of cables connecting to the TV. There is ONE proprietary Samsung cable that connects the TV to the slim but heavy ‘Smart Connect’ box and all your other cables plug in there.
I have the TV setup with Dolby speakers, but I did test the TV initially WITHOUT external speakers and only using the built in speakers. Samsung claims they are Dolby Atmos compatible and they definitely seemed to be as far as I could tell. Honestly, if you can't afford a receiver and speaker setup or sound bar, or you don't want the clutter, you would be surprisingly pleased by the built in speakers. Not a lot of bass, of course, but very good Atmos surround, for sure! I was impressed. Sound quality when connected to my speaker setup is fantastic as well.
For anyone who uses a game console or has children who do, this TV also has a “Game Mode” that claims to reduce or eliminate any input lag from controllers and supports all the new fangled HDR and enhanced settings. Video games look amazing and the response is instant. No lag. As one would EXPECT with a TV at this price point.
So overall I fully recommend this TV if you have the cash to spare and want a brilliant, beautiful, huge TV and also want one that is future proof. 4k content is really just getting in gear as far as content goes and 8k is still very rare. This TV will handle the 4k easily and up convert it to what looks even BETTER to my eyes. Plus, when 8k content starts taking off and getting popular, you will be ready. This was important to me as I wanted a great set, loved the size but also wanted it to last. I don’t plan on buying a new TV every 2-3 years like I know some do. If it’s important to you, then that is one more reason you will love this TV. Overall, very well done, Samsung!

box, the brightness pierces through the natural light in my window filled great room. Although I reduce the brightness, it still surpasses my previous QLED's luminance. Comparing it to my 82" QLED 4K set, the QN900B's image clarity is immediately evident. I tested standard definition and 4K content from various streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, and found that the 8K resolution delivers more realistic colors with a stunning vibrancy. Streaming 8K content on YouTube is a phenomenal experience that only laments the fact that 8k needs to be more readily available. The QN900B boasts incredible depth in each scene, reminiscent of the first time you experienced 4K after watching standard definition. It also excels in handling dark scenes, nearing OLED performance, though not quite reaching it. Blooming is minimal and barely noticeable, which was one of the reasons I chose to upgrade. Some standard definition content isn’t as vibrant as I’d expected it to be, but it exceeds my prior sets abilities. The audio produced by the QN900B is impressive for a TV, with levels near that of a midrange soundbar without sub. It's sufficient enough to eliminate the need for a separate soundbar. Adding a Samsung soundbar that supports Q-Symphony takes it to the next level! Utilizing the TV speakers' six channels and the soundbar together significantly enhances the audio depth. With the lights off, the immersive sound and striking visuals create a theater-like experience. For this I’ve upgraded to the Q990C which boosts that 11.1.4 system to 22 total channels of immersion. Disclaimer, I wouldn’t use a slim mount for this TV it will degrade the quality of sound because there’s no room for the speakers to move, yes they move, as I stated earlier they’re pretty loud. However, I must express my dislike for the full-screen menu, which disrupts the show I'm watching when I only want to make minor adjustments. In some apps your video will pick up where it left off so that you can make the image or sound adjustments but in YouTube it kicks you back to the profile screen. For the first time in over a decade, I was contemplating returning my Samsung TV for a different brand but realized I could use the button under the power button to access settings without leaving the streaming service I'm in. I urge Samsung to utilize a less intrusive and faster user interface, as my Q70 performed noticeably quicker though it's four years older and wasn't a flagship model. Does the image quality and Q-Symphony overshadow my dislike for the home menu? YES!!!

I absolutely love this Samsung 85” QN900B. The picture is just unreal, bright, sharp, and ridiculously detailed. Paired with my Marantz Dolby Atmos setup, it turns movie nights into a full-on theater experience. Deep blacks, crazy color, and smooth as can be. Hands down the best TV I’ve ever owned. I does put out a fair amount of heat.
