This is the first real tablet/laptop that I've ever had. I'm not really tech savvy, so I've had lots of questions; however, with a little bit of help from my wife and son I've picked up on it quickly. It's also nice to know that the folks at Best Buy's "Samsung Experience" are willing to walk me through any questions I have.
It's very fast and responsive to my movements. I am really impressed with the camera and the quality of pictures it takes. I find myself using it more than I thought and am learning new and exciting things every day.
Being older, I find it helpful to use the stylus to help make the proper on-screen selections. Another nice feature with the stylus is that I can "hover" over certain selections and a pop-up window will appear to indicate what that particular button will do (i.e. trash can indicates "delete" in the email). This is useful for folks who have not really been fully engrossed in the mobile technology movement since it's inception.

I've owned a few different tablets. A few made by Samsung the others by Asus. I always felt I got more power and quality for my money from Asus. That was until I bought this tablet. The note 8 is a multi tasking monster. The s pen is very responsive with the screen. I haven't noticed any lag between the two. The multi window feature and s pen work great together. I watch a lot of movies and tv shows which look great. I own a galaxy s3 and planned on upgrading to the s4 but after using this tablet I'm going to wait for the note 3. You start to feel lost without the s pen once your used to it.
One of the few down sides I see is the small amount of internal storage. You can add a micro sd card but Samsung only allows you to install apps to the internal storage. The 12 gigs of usable storage will prob be enough for most but I've gone thru it pretty fast. When I bought this tablet there wasn't a 32 gig option. For $400 I think this should have come with 32 gigs.

Being an owner of a Galaxy Note 2 and believing it is one of the best smartphones on the market, this tablet was a no brainer for me. It mirrors many of the features and user interface of the Galaxy Note family. But what I like most is the size and speed. It is easy to hold yet big enough to allow easy reading of books, magazines and internet sites. Photo's just jump off the screen and video's play it seems as good as higher screen resolution competitors. The S-Pen is not an element I use regularly but it does come in handy at times for cutting an pasting elements from photo's and Internet articles that is not on other tablets. Under very heavy use we have only been getting around 6 hrs of use so I am not complaining too loud just a nice item to get better. I was very surprise that they did not include NFC but using Drop Box has minimized that missing element. Over all I am extremely pleased with the Galaxy Note 8 and look forward to Samsung updating it to Android 4.2.2 and 5.0 down the road.

There is no lag on this thing. I like the size and speed of this tablet. 2GB RAM makes multi-tasking a snap. I have had 5 tablets and this on is the best so far! I also use it as a tv and ROKU remote control. Being ANDROID and Samsung, it has multitude of capabilities that you can tap, like; file transfers via Kies, bluetooth, wifi, DLNA, and VPN. This is a very smart tablet as long as you use it's full potential.

Best Investment Ever

By far best investment. For the price you are getting a great device that can do more than what you can expect. I use it for everything I can possibly think of. The compatibility with Office is magnificent. I use it to take notes, keep track of my calendar, quick notes, drawing, tasks, reading, research. It's great at multitasking and the screen is impeccable. The accuracy of the S-Pen is fantastic because my notes don't come out funky and when I'm drawing details are amazing. Have still to encounter something I don't like. My primary use is for school, but I use it for entertainment and work too. AND perfect size, fits in my purse, I can hold it with one hand, and carry like nothing.

I love this tablet. Its the perfect size and its awesome for document creation and editing. The stylus takes some getting used to but I love being able to get signatures on service tickets and invoices. I am a building automation contractor so I use it to modify blueprints for as-built documentation. I love how I can drill down into the file structure of this device (which I believe is a function of android not specific to the device) and its amazingly easy to transfer files to and from my laptop via bluetooth. Now the downside. The play store pales in comparison to itunes and the transition from iOS to Android Jelly Bean is a bit painful but for me it was absolutely worth it. Last item: this thing comes with a complete office suite that works flawlessly with office 2010 and some cool s-pen apps that really come in handy. I cant praise it enough!

I got the Galaxy Note 8 to replace an old slow Galaxy Tab 10.1. I wasn't sure how I would like the size difference but I really do like it. The 8" fits in my purse or bag much easier than the larger tab did. I like the S note for jotting down some quick notes. Because my phone is a droid, my existing apps, contacts, calendar, etc all came across without a hitch. I love all the things that the s pen can do. Even when 2 of us watched a downloaded movie on a plane, the size was just fine.
While I would love the Note 2014 in 10" size, this at 1/2 the cost is awesome.

Now I will be the first to admit that this tablet is expensive for what you get but it is better than an ipad. I liked my ipad but I spent over a hundred dollars on apps trying to get something to convert microsoft documents properly. This tablet has a program built in and free. The S pen is amazing and very accurate a converting handwriting to text. Very easy to use, lightweight, and for me it is easy to hold one handed. i have yet to find anything other than the overall cost that I don't like. But all in all best purchase ever for school.

THE BEST 8" TABLET

After thorough reviews between the 8" Galaxy Tab3 and Nexus 7, i decided to get this this tablet for my wife. Plain and simple, the Note 8 packs more punch when it comes to processor speed, and memory, and the resolution is good enough comparing to the Nexus 7. In reality to the naked eye its not that big of a difference. My wife loves her tablet and Best Buy was able to price match for $329 plus my reward points.. Great savings.

I essentially choose this device for the writing features and note taking. Here it does not fail and is superior to the iPad . In addition, I have a child who cannot spell and has poor phonetic awareness. This device helps you to spell by giving you 12 alternatives to the word you are trying to type. For a child with dyslexia or learning problems they can improve on their spelling and word recognition. This to me was worth the purchase. Emailing and internet browsing are fast and responsive, no great difference to other tablet platforms. Here I find the iPad easier than the galaxy with the browsing.
A nice device overall,

I love this tablet! finally got away from apples stronghold over me with my old iPad. haven't looked back once! I love how light this tablet is! The screen is fantastic! very easy to use. i love the flexibility that this device gives me with the Android OS. Why did I stick with my iPad for so long? I could have been using this wonderful tablet or one like it years ago! I do not regret this purchase one bit and am trying to convince those around me to also make the switch to Android. The only downside i've encountered in the battery life is not that great. But it's probably because i'm using it so much!

I was browsing in Best Buy and say this displayed and since I had recently updated my phone to Note 2, was already familiar with the S-pen and all the benefits of that. I also have a Kindle Fire and Asus Transformer, plus a laptop. I wanted to try to replace the Kindle Fire, since it seems heavy "now". I have switched to this from the Kindle, due to its lighter weight. I read a lot.
I saw the Tab 8 and the retail screen(s) and video running and watched them. the Best Buy people were very helpful, although this was about the first several days the device was even available. I had some appointments but returned later in the day and bought it.
I would have preferred the Black, which is supposed to be available in June. I got the 16GB WIFI version, although there is supposed to be a 3G phone version later in the summer.
Verizon offers $100 rebate on qualifying Tabs and this is one, with 2 year contract. Since 4G-LTE is now available in our area, I converted to Verizon MyFi, hotspot and dropped the unbundled DSL.
The Best Buy person set everything up for me, walked me through some of the other routines to get fully set up and off I went. I did get the extended no fault warranty since the caseback seems lame.
Great experience there and very helpful. I do strongly recommend buying a strong case/folio as the naked case, seems flimsy and cheap plastic. It may be tougher than it looks but don't want to see how good the extended care no-fault warranty is,
With new items the accessories can lag behind and there is only a limited number of accessories available as of now (05/2013) but suspect more will be available soon.
Overall, the phone, and the experience would be 4.9, just short of perfect.

Works as described. Sooo happy we switched from Apple. I already own the galaxy note 10.1 for school, and we purchased the 8.0 for my husband for work, based on how much we both liked the 10.1. Most apps are compatible, but sometimes you are unpleasantly surprised when apps are not compatible with one galaxy note tablet, but not the other. Battery life is fantastic! Screen resolution is amazing, I love to watch Netflix and Hulu on it.
In short, Love this product. I would highly recommend it to anyone that is in the market for a mid sized tablet.

I've known what I wanted in a tablet and after many false starts, the Samsung Note 8.0 has everything on the list. I use for note taking in meetings and the note taking feature is perfect for either typing or using the stylus. I am amazed at how it can translate my very challenging handwriting into text. In addition, I love the swipe text and multiple screens features. It is fast, compact and I no longer feel the need to carry both a tablet and an e-reader. I knew what I wanted and this tablet does it all.

I absolutely love samsung products and the note takes it to a whole new level. The 8.0 is a perfect size for pretty much everything. I use it to take notes watch movies read books, etc. I also have a Samsung phone but the tablet has the pen that just puts this series of tablets above the rest.
