Mixed emotion between the Big 2

I was considering XS Max and Note 9. I went in to Best Buy to take a look in person after reviewing WAY too many video's and articles. I ran in to the Samsung Rep in the store. I told him to give me the 411 on his product. After looking I went with the Note 9. I feel it was a great choice. I have only been using it for a week, and I am still working on getting all my settings the way I like them. I am very satisfied with the choice of the Note 9. I previously was using a LG G5. Although the G5 was a good phone, it does not compare with the Note. I have hearing aids that work with Android and that was a big determining factor in the direction I went. But, I had already made up my mind that I would go with the XS if it seemed a better phone for me. When I got the Note 9 in my hand, I felt very sure that this is what I would purchase. As previously stated, I am very glad I went with the Note 9. Pricing and storage were what I considered above other options. When you consider the price and the storage of Note 9, there is no way that Apple can contend. When you compare the same storage, the Apple product is way above the Samsung. There is very little quality difference between the two, but the pricing difference is huge. If you like simple operation and have a unlimited bank roll, you may consider going with Apple. But if you want to be able to alter the settings and have a huge amount of third party apps to choose from, the Samsung product will be a better fit for you.

I switched to the Note9 from the iPhone 6s Plus and I couldn't be happier. Although I miss facetime and imessage, I believe the Note9 makes up for those missing features. It's a great phone for performance, taking videos/photos, multitasking, and media consumption. As of now, I do not regret switching from iOS to Android. To those of you considering this phone, go ahead and make the switch; try something different. From expandable memory to the S-Pen and to the Super AMOLED screen, the Note9 is future proof and is a great phone for someone who likes to keep their phone for years.

Everything from the cameras, to the screen, to the battery, and to the features are amazing. I was able to get through a whole day (11am-11pm) of heavy usage (google maps, pokemon go, video, pictures, samsung pay, hours of youtube, and spotify). This thing is a champ and didn't slow down for the 3 weeks I've had it so far.

Great phone with one huge flaw

I own the iPhone X and now the Note 9 as my business phone...I love both phones. The Note 9 has a big and beautiful screen, great camera, lots of storage, a huge battery, and an S Pen that works like a remote. One thing that other reviews don't mention is how great the audio sounds thanks to stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos. Music and movies sound great with headphones too. One major flaw that hasn't been discussed in reviews is poor video streaming. The Note 9 doesn't stream in full screen on the HBO, SHOWTIME, CINEMAX, STARZ, ENCORE, EPIX, or Movies Anywhere apps. The iPhone X and iPad can stream all of those apps in full screen. Even worse...the TNT and TBS crash immediately and won't open on the Note 9. I've contacted the app developers and I was told that full screen is built into iOS but not Android so that's why videos look tiny on Android phones but not the iPhone. As of 08/28/18 only Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Movies, and YouTube stream in full screen on the Note 9. This is just a heads up in case you like to watch Game of Thrones at lunch or on the subway...you'll be disappointed at the tiny video not filling the screen. In conclusion...this is a great overall phone. It's built for heavy usage and will end the year as the best Android phone easily.

    1. Great performance, everything feels snappy with SD 845 and 6/8 GB RAM. 2. Best screen on a phone, seriously you can't go wrong with how great the screen looks. 3. Battery life, finally Samsung stepped up by putting a large 4000 mAh battery and it shows. Gets full day battery easily and obviously this depends on individual use. But out of all the phones I have owned this year, Note 9 is at the top in terms of battery life. 4. Samsung experience UI finally isn't a bad experience. It's always been full of features but performance wise there was always something missing. They have been improving on this every iteration, it was already great on S9 series and you can expect same out of Note 9. 5. S Pen, personally not a big user of this but I do like the additional features they have added this year. 6. Fingerprint sensor moved to a decent location compared to Note 8. Intelligent face unlock works great but still prefer fingerprint sensor for fast unlocking. 7. Still has a headphone jack and no notch since these two are the most controversial things currently in tech circle. 8. High internal storage option. Love that Samsung has increased the base storage to 128 GB and even provide an option for 512 GB.

Coming from a galxy s7... I waited a while for phablets to reach there peak and this phone is there!! Pros: HUGE screen ,amazing speed, camera is on point, the battery life is amazing really can go through a busy day without the worry of your phone dieing. What's the need for an SD card anymore with so much built in storage space . S pen is a nice utility to have, quick notes, draw cool messages, use it as a remote. Cons: Had to get used to phone not having a physical home button, really wished the fingerprint scanner was built into the screen and not on the back of the phone. S pen isn't secured good enough. I have a case on the phone...I dropped it.. S pen came out. Didn't even know...watch out for that. Bloatware can be a pain you really should be able to uninstall these instead of disabling. Don't really care for the curved edges on the screen.

I love the color of the note 9 purple. This is a excellent all around device. With the price of phones creeping higher and higher this I'd the most bang for your buck. Has everything. Great display. Great battery. Huge storage. Expandable memory. Headphone Jack. Water resistant. S pen. Wireless charging. Fast charging. VR ready. Lots of ram. What's not to like about this device. Good luck finding another device with everything listed and more. Zero lag. Fluid. Great all around device.

My previous phone was a Note 5. This phone is huge upgrade. I considered the Galaxy S9+ and the Pixel 3 XL, but decided on the Note 9 in Cloud Silver. (The price difference between the S9+ and Note 9 were minimal, so that ruled out the S9+) This phone is packed with bells and whistles like 128 GB of storage and 6 GB RAM. I almost went with the Pixel 3XL, but really wanted more storage than 64GB (with NO micro-SD slot as well). I also find the battery extremely impressive. With moderate use, I can get 2 full days out of the phone. On rare occasion, the battery percentage rarely dips under 80% by the time I return home from work. I have always loved Samsung displays, and this display is excellent as well. I find the improved S-Pen to be a bit gimmicky. That being said, the ability to take a picture with the S-Pen is a nice touch. The camera takes excellent pictures. I have even had compliments about the voice quality during phone conversations. Overall, the hardware is excellent. The Samsung Experience software is getting better with each generation. It's not pure Android, but it's not bad either. At least we are not dealing with clunky Touch Wiz anymore. On a related note, there is less bloatware on the phone than I expected. But come on Samsung, why do we need 2 email apps, 2 browsers, etc. If you're looking for a premium Android phone, consider this phone. If you don't need all the bells and whistles, or don't want to pay an arm and a leg for phone, you may want to look elsewhere (Pixel, Note 8, OnePlus, etc.). For me, this phone checks off all the boxes on my list.

First I'm a little bias when it comes to Samsung but lately I didnt feel so good about th last 2 phones I had galaxy 7s edge and note 7 exploding. I have to say I was not pleased waiiting one in a half month for the phone however it was worth the wait. The camera takes pictures with so much clairty, i have taken numerous of pictures in different lighting and weather clairty still the same. Being able to have a video as a screen saver is a cool feature. Battery is awesome with my work email, gmail, apps, music , bluetooth, this battery lives up, I went 1 in half day and phone finally died, quick charge btw. Less stress knowing that my phone can last a long time. Performance I haven't had any sluggish, lag, latency with this phone as with pervious, muit apps open is great future and to add this s pen is a plus the bluetooth function of it is the best thing about it. Overall I would recommend this phone I'd you are looking to upgrade I know the price looks pricey but it's worth it.

I dropped my phone one time about 3 feet, and this did nothing to prevent damage. My screen is completely cracked. "Protects against screen damage" what a joke. Do yourself a favor and pay the more money for zagg, I never had issues with them in the past but the best buy rep talked me into this junk when I bought my phone.

I have had this phone for quite sometime now and I actually love it. Ok, ok.. in the interest of full disclosure, I no longer have this phone. I just "upgraded" to the Z fold, and I am not as happy with the fold as I had hoped. This phone is still relevant in Oct 2021. It is fast, it is nice and large, it has the s-pen, it has micro sd card support, fast charging, wireless charging, what is there not to like, other than Samsung has given up on this phone for some reason. The cameras are very good, the fingerprint reader on the back works for me, I am left handed. The battery life is very good, lasts all day of heavy use. The pen integration is very good although I do not use the pen much, it is very nice to have on had when you need it. I actually use the pen as a camera remote more than to scribble stuff on the screen. All I can say is that overall this phone has all you want, all you need and more then you expect. If you can still find some new one or you can get the Note10 you will be very happy with this phone.

I am absolutely in love with this phone. I was nervous to switch to it because I am normally an iPhone Lover but wanted something different. I will definitely never go back to iPhones. Great size, love the screen, the fastness of it, the sound is amazing, easy to navigate, great battery life, and love the S pen.

The Note 9 has every feature you could want in a phone. Big brilliant screen, fast processing, great camera, tons of storage and a remote control stylus. I upgraded from my s7 edge. I didn't think I could like a phone more than I liked it but I like the Note 9 a lot more.

Love this phone. There are so many features and especially with the pen. I am still learning new stuff everyday which is awesome. The performance on this is amazing! I got the 512Gb because for an extra $250 it made sense to have 3 times more space than the 128Gb. Can't wait for the 512Gb micro SD card. Having a phone w/ 1TB will be mind freeing about space worrying. I also love the 8Gb of RAM and that they put a larger battery in the 512Gb model to match phone life of the 128Gb model. I hope Samsung decides to keep the Note line going.

Best cell phone I've ever purchased! I've been a Galaxy owner since the S3 series, and I'm so glad I made the leap to the Note 9. Samsung has done a great job with their UI and operating system, so long gone are the days of the TouchWiz clunkiness of previous phones. The Note 9 allows for absolutely incredible functionality customization via OneUI and their own Good Lock customization software. The last year of updates have improved just about every feature of the phone, including an excellent Night mode in the stock Camera app. I thought I'd use the S Pen more, but it's still a wonderful tool to have for jotting down notes (just eject and write!), sketching, fine-tuning photos, and - my favorite - using it as a shutter remote for your camera. Great for still photos and group selfies when using a monopod. Additionally, the most recent update has made the built-in battery management even better. With moderate use this past week I was able to squeeze out nearly 32 hours of use time from one full charge (medium power saving). Your mileage may vary depending on how heavy you use it, screen brightness, and wireless and cell connections. In general, I have been getting ~24 hours of on time before reaching 10-15%. In poor coverage areas my battery does drain faster of course, but this has been much better than the 8-10 hours my old S7 Edge lasted before I got this phone. The screen is absolutely gorgeous. I have a case with a built in stand, and it's fun to watch some movies or YouTube on it. Watching HD 60fps YouTube videos on this is breathtaking. Sound volume is clear and has decent body (make sure to have Dolby Atmos turned on). Sound projects in stereo from the top speaker (earpiece) and from the bottom of the phone (between the S Pen charging ports). Holding the phone horizontally in your right hand during videos bounces the right speaker sound forward (which I thought was very clever). Even without holding it I think the sound reaches very acceptable volumes and clarity. Speaking of sound, the Note 9 has a 3.5 audio jack (the Note 10 requires Bluetooth). Not sure about now, but my Note 9 came with some really excellent wired AKG earbuds that sound wonderful. I've also paired several TaoTronics and Soundpeats wireless earbuds to this phone and have had nearly instant connections when turning them on. BT range is great, and I've never had a dropped connection. The Note 10 has some really great features and updates, but honestly, it's worth picking up a Note 9 since it's not at a flagship launch price anymore. It works even better now than when I first bought it, and I have zero plans on trading up or away any time soon.
