It sounds as good/bad as my $300 tv. It adds some lower end and overall volume. It will not improve the sound quality nor will it properly transcode 5.1 sound.

To optimize your audio experience, please try the various sound modes this model offers. Press the SOUND MODE button on your remote, and then select your desired sound effect: DTS VIRTUAL:X, STANDARD, MUSIC, or ADAPTIVE.
When you press the CH LEVEL button on the remote, you can adjust the volume of the CENTER speaker using the UP/DOWN buttons between -6 to +6. If the Rear Speakers (sold separately) are connected, the setting “Rear Level” is supported.
You can further adjust TREBLE and BASS via the TONE CONTROL button using the UP/DOWN buttons on the remote between -6 to +6.

Purchased excellent condition open box. Missing remote, customer service tells me to drive to the nearest store and they will provide a remote. At the store They are of course not able or interested in helping. This is my second open box with a missing remote, obviously they are not checking for accessories before labeling them excellent condition w/no missing accessories. Time waste

Muffled Sound

We were highly disappointed in the sound since it was Samsung, it sound muffled and lost. We returned that same week.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your HW-S50B Soundbar. I’m sorry you were not satisfied with your experience. We are always here to help and would have been happy to assist in providing settings adjustments to resolve any issues you were experiencing.
It is possible that your unit needed minor troubleshooting, a firmware update, or adjustments in settings.
Such as checking that the soundbar is correctly positioned correctly with the SAMSUNG logo facing up towards the ceiling. We have found that many customers are misplacing the soundbar with the SAMSUNG logo perpendicular to the floor (facing you when seated), with the unit resting on the speakers, resulting in muffled sound.
Updating the firmware on your soundbar gives you all the benefits of the latest improvements. When an update is available, you can update the Soundbar by connecting the USB drive that contains the update firmware to the USB port of the Soundbar.
1.Go to the Samsung Electronics website (www.samsung.com) → click on the “Support” option in the upper right corner. 2.Click on “Manuals & Software” from the pop-up list > TVs & Home Theater > Home Theater > Select your model 2. Download the firmware file (USB type). 3. Save the downloaded software to a USB memory stick and select “Extract Here” to unzip the folder. 4. Turn on the Soundbar and connect the USB memory stick containing the software update to the female port. Connect the cable to the USB port on the Soundbar. 5. Plug USB into Soundbar and switch to USB source, the software will update automatically and will complete update within 2 minutes. During the update process, the 5 LEDs will start flashing in a loop, and then the 5 LEDs will all be bright white, and then the 5 LEDs will flash in a loop again. When the update is complete, the cyan indicator blinks 3 times, and the soundbar automatically restarts.
If LED sequence flashing is not displayed: 1. Turn off the Soundbar, disconnect and then reconnect the USB storage device that contains the update files to the Soundbar’s USB port. 2. Disconnect the Soundbar’s power cord, reconnect it, and then turn on the Soundbar.

I got them for free, and I feel That I paid too much. Internal TV speakers sound better. Maybe the sound will improve with the subwoofer

Better vocal clarity? Sure. But at what cost? At the store it sounded decent with cinema and music samples, but trying it out at home was a very underwhelming experience. My Google Home & JBL pill sound better than this for all purposes.

Doesn’t sync with TV so the sound is way off when speaking live or otherwise

Updating the firmware on your soundbar gives you all the benefits of the latest improvements. When the Soundbar is connected to the Internet, Auto Update allows software to update automatically even when the Soundbar is turned off. You can also update by using the SmartThings app.
If not connected to the internet, you can download it onto a USB device, and then upload it to your soundbar - no wireless connection required. Connect the USB drive that contains the update firmware to the SERVICE port of the Soundbar.
1.Go to the Samsung Electronics website (www.samsung.com) → click on the “Support” option in the upper left corner. 2.Click on “Manuals & Software” from the pop-up list > TVs & Home Theater > Home Theater > Select your model 2. Download the firmware file (USB type). 3. Unzip the file to create a folder with the file name. 4. Store the created folder in a USB and then connect it to the Soundbar. 5. A sequence of “UPDATE” > “BYE” > “ON” will appear on the display 3 times. This will take around 6 minutes. - During update, do not turn it off or remove the USB. - If “UPDATE” does not appear on the display window, remove the power cord from the Soundbar and then reconnect it. - When the latest version is installed, no update is performed. - Depending on the USB type, update may not be supported. 6. After the 3 cycles are complete, the Soundbar will restart and last source used will appear on the display for about 20 seconds and then it will go off (“UPDATE” > “BYE” > “ON”) 3 times “D.IN” > off

Incompatible with my Samsung TV.

HDMI connection to Samsung TV. Samsung Support was unsuccessful in resolving the problem despite 3 long, exhausting sessions. I finally resolved the problem by discard the hdmi cable and installing an optical audio cable. Samsung Support never suggested this fix but it now works. It took me nearly 3 weeks to resolve the problem myself.
