As a dedicated Samsung customer dating to 1986 with the purchase of my first TV, I will no longer blindly purchase their products. From phones, to tablets, TV's and kitchen/laundry appliances, I have developed a fondness for Samsung quality, despite the premium prices they command. But I am now faced with a warranty claim barely 1.5 months after the purchase of this vacuum cleaner and the process has caused me to reevaluate my loyalty.
I have no complaint about the level of suction that this appliance provides. However that suction and the lack of a floor height adjustment feature, means that it is very difficult to operate on our medium pile carpet. Also the unit cuts off the operation of the brush when my wife's long hair becomes wrapped around the brush which means that we have to cut the hair off and reset it so that it operates. I am not talking about gobs of hair, but less than 50 strands, as I actually counted them the 2nd time it happened, and the 3rd time overall that we'd used it. After the last session, when remove the dirt basket, which we had done twice before, the latch holding it to the stem of the vacuum, snapped off and the plastic shroud around the release button cracked. Cheap plastic is used to keep the weight down, but using metal for a latch which holds the entire unit together, would be a better design w/o adding to the weight. Since I foolishly purchased this online as it wasn't in stock, I was prevented from checking it out at on the show floor. My bad.
An email to Samsung.com, where we were directed since this was considered a warranty issue, went unanswered for 3 days. A phone call was in order. That call produced a wait time of 1 hr 55 seconds according to my Samsung S3 phone. That call was disconnected while the phone was sitting near me with the speakerphone function on. So I called back and after a similar wait time (44 min. 18 seconds) I finally spoke to someone. He was in the "executive dept" which means that he was allowed a certain level of decision making. The option offered to me at first, was Samsung sending out a replacement part. Though I was seeking to actually upgrade to a unit with floor height adjustment, I understand the fact that the manufacturer has the sole discretion of whether to repair or replace the product. So I am stuck with it. Fine. Then I had the "decision maker" inform me that because Samsung didn't provide this replacement part, that I had to send the WHOLE vacuum cleaner off to a warranty repair shop in Riverdale NJ, far from my home in Mn. Again, my bad for not knowing this prior to making the purchase. I was surprised though that the part was not available as I was led to believe that this is a new model. Planned obsolescence perhaps? And if the part isn't available, how do you repair it, Gorilla tape? I have that here.
Now I will be without a vacuum cleaner for a minimum of 2 weeks, while being a pet owner. Also, I threw out the box after saving it for 5 of the 6 weeks that I've owned it. I figured that I had waited a sufficient amount of time. And who has room to keep a box that size for the entire 5 year warranty period? So I have to buy a box for $6-$7, packing materials, $7-$10, and pay shipping costs to NJ which will be close to $30.00, just to wait a minimum of 2 weeks to get my $189 vacuum serviced with a part that doesn't exist. Did I perform due diligence? Not completely no. But learn from my mistakes.
This vacuum though providing great cleaning ability, is cheaply made, shuts down the brush prematurely, has a very small dirt container and if it breaks, you will be shipping your vacuum cleaner to Riverdale NJ, for service and have to find an alternative vacuum cleaner for at least 2 weeks.
In short, make sure you purchase in a bricks and mortar store so you can see the quality and features of any vacuum cleaner that you are considering. That was my intention, but the need to replace our broken unit at home, and my budget pushed me towards this model. It did show up within 3 days of ordering and shipping was free. And make clear how any repairs are handled. I didn't and I regret it. I was polite and concise throughout my phone call, with no shaming attempt made, although I did mention my satisfaction with the numerous other Samsung products I had purchased over the years. I was "thanked for that information". As mentioned earlier, I was ironically using a Samsung S3 to make the call.
25 years of retail experience taught me the best approach to take when customers are faced with when needing service. Being concise, nice, and reasonable are the top 3 tactics of this approach That approach was worthless in this instance.

I picked up this vacuum on a daily deal. Loved it right out of the box. It is so lightweight and easy to maneuver. Suction is really great. I also love that it is so easy to detach into a portable vac. I've used this vacuum for almost 2 months and have nothing bad to say about it so far.

It worked great the first week. The suction was so good it lifted up my living room rug while vacuuming. It was pretty quiet then too. Clogs very easily with dog hair. We've unclogged it multiple times, cleaned it out completely, and washed the filter with no success. It doesn't suck without using the handheld tool and sounds like an airplane taking off right next to you. It's really loud and high pitched now. I'm glad we bought the protection because they are letting us exchange it.

I purchased this vacuum in Dec after reading reviews and asking for input from the sales person. I am so disappointed with this product. I only have one room with carpet and everytime I turn around its clogged! I took it to a repair shop and they wanted $50 just to look at it! I will go over the receipt and instruction Manuel and call the store to see if I have any options.
