I purchased this tracker for my dog. Samsung even has this use case on its website for this product. However, there is no easy way to keep it attached to a pet collar.

I’ve used the Samsung SmartThings Tracker for two weeks now and have mixed feelings. First and foremost, it does what it says it does and better than any Bluetooth tracker out there. What separates this tracker from all the rest is that it uses cellular networks for tracking and has virtually an unlimited range. Bluetooth trackers are limited to about 100 feet . By virtue of cellular tracking in a such a small package, there is nothing else that compares on the market. However, the sacrifice of a small package is battery life , it is not good and can get downright poor if you set the tracker to update it’s location on frequent basis. I set mine to not update and just manually checked the location. Note, you will lose a detailed tracking history if you set it to not update. Expect battery life to last 4 days or so with minimal updates and only 1 to 2 days if you do frequent updates. I would have preferred the tracker to be larger if Samsung could have put a bigger battery. Putting that aside, I like the functionality. The tracking is accurate (I’ve read that it is accurate to 400 feet, I’ve experienced far better than that) and the software incorporated into the Samsung Smartthings app is excellent. In summary, you get the best tracker there is in a small, water resistant package with moderate battery life. What is the catch? The subscription service after the first year makes this not worth it . The first year of cellular service is included, after that it is $5 per month or $50 a year. That is per tracker. Is Samsung kidding? Who is going to spend $50 to $60 a year for a tracker that costs $75 ( $99 list.) Think about that, if you can now buy one for $75 – what is the chance next year you can buy a whole new one for $50 or $60? Or maybe a new on off of eBay for $40? Samsung’s subscription service cost does not make sense. A much smarter move would be charge $120 for the tracker with a lifetime subscription service. I would pass until Samsung makes some changes in the service cost. This would have been a 4 star product but based on the exorbitant service costs, 3 stars.

I've had this tracker for a little over a week now and it is actually a really good product. The app is intuitive and it includes one year of service after which its reasonably priced at $5/month. For a device that has LTE cellular service built in, this is a pretty good deal.
The biggest complaint I have with this tracker is the battery life. The first day I got it, I charged it up to 100%, activated it and it lasted for about five days. The second time I charged it to 100% and it lasted about three days even though I travelled to the same locations. I understand that battery life varies for many different reasons, but I would rather have a larger device with better battery life. As is, it fits well in a purse, backpack or even a pants pocket.
I tried using the geofence settings to turn it off when the tracker is in the same location for a period of time, but it didn't update when the tracker moved. I had to press the button three times to reactivate the tracking. If this feature worked as advertised, I'm sure I would get better battery life out of this device. The app does a great job of notifying me when it has left the two areas I set up in the app.
There isn't a lot of support on Samsung's website as to how to adjust the settings, but there is some information within the app itself. I also like that I can use my Ecobee3 thermostat, Honeywell Thermostat and Wemo devices within the app. This is a nice and unexpected feature.
All in all, I would recommend this device.

Used this as a safety against theft of a firearm I was transporting in my checked baggage on an airline.
Once I activated it I could not track the firearm. I tried again on my return trip with the same results.
My recommendation, don’t buy this!

Accurate Tracking!

It is compact but is not too small for you to miss it. Set up is easy and the accompanying app is fairly easy to understand for users with some know-how how to navigate device apps. The accuracy is pretty good when I track things. I tired leaving it in my car so I know where I parked in a downtown location. I also tried snapping onto my 6 year olds beltloop. It has better accuracy than a regular mobile phone. I only give it 4 stars though because the battery does not last over a day-- so if I'm leaving my kid somewhere, I need him to charge the device so that I can continuously track him-- which 6 year olds do not really remember doing. I get to use it for finding my car at least. Could be good for parents to keep track of their kids at an amusement park!

Summary: The item works well, the battery life is great, if you enable power saver mode, and it's fairly accurate. The item does not send prompt notifications and the location is within 400M. 400M is a lot of area to cover when looking for something or someone, if you were to put in a kids backpack.
Pros: Great battery life, charges within a few hours, waterproof, can fit almost into any place, whether under you floor mat in a vehicle, or you Childs backpack, can send continuous updates as long as you're in the app. Also you can set safe zones
Cons: Fairly accurate within 400M (LOTS OF GROUND TO COVER), notifications are not instant, the follow feature really does not show the actual path of travel
What I expected was similar to what comes with phones or cars, where it's a more accurate. Also for this being a tracker where you can set safe zones, I expected an alert immediately when the item left or entered the safe zone.

The biggest difference between this device, and something like "Tile," is that this is battery powered, and has an LTE modem built in. It comes with the first year of service for free, after which I presume there is a monthly service fee to continue tracking.
The setup process was a bit confusing, due to the app being a bit slow to connect to the device while in pairing mode, and after you've added it, it's not readily apparent that it was successful.
However, after a few minutes (approx 5) after successful setup, the app began displaying the location via the app quickly. I charged the unit fully overnight prior to use, and was able to get about 2 full days of use, with minimal app use. After about 2 days, I began receiving a charge prompt in the app, until the unit powered off on the 4th day.
This device does exactly what it's designed to do. Provide you with real time tracking of an object. The tracker only comes with a charging cable/adapter, and a small cloth tether for carrying or strapping to something. I used this in my car, putting it in the middle console, and it was easily able to get a signal.
I think this has it's purpose for many; such as those with pets going for a walk at a dog park, tracking kids during their walks to/from school, or in a bag for easy location tracking when you get to the airport or easily forget where you put the bag down.
If you'd like a step up from the Bluetooth beacon style trackers, and want something that's only purpose is tracking, this is a good option. The battery will last a couple of days, and is easily charged for another round of use.

Great Tracking Device

The Samsung Smart Things Tracker is a great tracking device. It has a lot to offer that the Tile does not but comes at a price. For $99 you receive one tracker versus four Tiles for $69, plus after one year you have to subscribe to a cellular service to continue using the tracker.
I like that the Samsung uses a low power LTE signal instead of relying on Bluetooth. I've thought about attaching it to my dogs collar in case he runs off. I can do that with the Samsung and feel safer because of the better tracking capabilities.
It can also be used as a two way communicator. I has a button on it that when pressed twice will send a notification to whoever has the app. This means you could give it to someone without a cell phone so that you know their location and that they are ready to be picked up. Lots of uses for this feature.
Reliable and accurate.

Like that it has LTE and not bluetooth

One thing I was initially drawn to on this was that it no longer relies on BLUETOOTH. I liked that it offered LTE so you can trak the item even if you are not in range. I like that I can give it to my kids and I know where they are or I can attach it to an item to track in case it gets lost or misplaced. Ever have a toddler in your home pick something up and move it and no one can find it for days? Hello.... this can be a lifesaver for those types of items.
But with LTE comes the proverbial battery. Nothing lasts forever so you will need to recharge it but overall I am pretty happy with the battery life.
I wish this was a multi-pack.... it is hard to identify only one item to attach it to.
I like that you get 1 year free of the LTE service. This really allows you to test it and see if you need it. Not sure if I will renew in a year but I have plenty of time to figure that out. Thank you Samsung for offering that first year free.
Accuracy was pretty good. If you have other Samsung Smart Things this will integrate well with them.
Overall I was impressed. This was my first tracker style item and I like what Samsung has done with it.

Nice Device To Keep Track of Your Valuables

I like this device, it isn't exactly what I expected. I thought this device was to track items that were misplaced nearby, but I quickly realized that the functionality is much greater. The way to use this is to keep track of items in the area of your home network. Once it's out of the designated area you will be alerted. To setup you need to follow the directions, but it's not complicated. If you've setup smart home devices before then you can handle this. I am looking forward to figuring out the best way to fully utilize this great little device.
