The multipurpose sensor has one particular use I am interested: if a door is open. I have this installed on my sliding glass door that goes to the back yard. If it is open, I have it set up so the A/C won't turn on.
That you can set things up so you don't waste the A/C with windows/doors open is what makes a smart home smart!
Additionally, this sensor has a thermometer so I can tell what the temperature is at the slider.
Use this with SmartThings hub or some other smart home hub.
My only gripe with it is that it keeps falling down. I've resorted to extra strong double sided sticky tape.

Samsung - SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor - White
In the beginning when these sensors were $40 a piece, though they were a great product, return on investment wasn't where I liked it. Now at $19.99...and hopefully staying, these are a great value and definitely worth their weight in gold. My other (non-Samsung sensors) only have one purpose....to sense open and closing...these much more.

We purchased a couple of these sensors and they simply work. We have our smart things hub connected to a samsung speaker and have setup the notifications to let us know when the door or window is opened. Also tells the temp at the sensor location.

I purchased the whole Samsung Smarthings Kit. I then purchased this as an add on later. The sensors work great on my doors as well as my windows. The amount of things I have been able to do with them is amazing. When paired with IFTTT, I can disable and enable my security systems at multiple residences with ease through Amazon Alexa. I also have recipes within IFTTT that trigger recordings on my Arlo cameras system when motion triggers are set off. The only drawback I have is that sometimes it is hard for the base to recognize these sensors and it takes multiple tries. Also the range is not that great and you need to be fairly close to the base. I think there are options for extenders, but I don't have one. All in all a great product that saves me tons by installing my own security system at a fraction of the cost as well as saving me a monthly fee for service.
