I’ve never trusted the “pull the sticker and stick to dash” types, so I can confidently attest that the “clip” does maintain its own weight and balance. It freely twists as needed and does not fall from the a/c vent it’s attached to.

It’s almost seems like it’s not built to hold phone in cases.

Doesn't work in my Honda vent

Unfortunately, the piece that that goes into the vent isn't big enough to support the weight of the phone. It just falls right out. Shucks. There's also an option to glue the holder to the dashboard but I didn't try that one.
