I bought this drive as my 120gb seagate barracuda wasnt doing the job anymore. It still works fine but i needed more storage. It comes w/ the sata cable and power cable, instructions were easy, setup took like 5 mins at most. Super quiet, pretty fast, 931gb after formatting. Comes with software for formatting, partitioning, cloning, creating an image of your system, etc. Pretty good deal for the price. Couldnt be happier with this drive.

Today I'm back to purchase my fourth Seagate Barracuda 1TB drive and I am very happy to see that the non-sale price is $69.99. This drive is quiet and works flawlessly. What I also like is the better style of packaging where on the shelf you see the important info on the front of the box: Size, Cache and Speed. With so many different hard drives available, it is easy to look at the price and miss a slower speed or cache rating. Included software offers options for moving files to new drive - very easy.

Over the past few years, I've had many Seagate 3TB and 2TB drives fail. I ran to BB to pick up several drives for a simple RAID I was building for a file server, and got 1TB drives. My thought was that the 1TB would be more reliable than the others - but no. The drives, while in operation, had a "grinding glass" noise to them. While they may have lasted just fine for this project, I didn't want to chance data loss, even using RAID I felt it was a potential. The drives were returned.

Seagate Barracuda 1TB Internal SATA Hard Drive

Own 2 of these massive hard drives. Very simple to install especially if it's used as a secondary drive. If used as primary drive, then the Cloning software isn't that good. Sure, it cloned the original hdd but it kept the partition! NOT good when you upgraded from 250GB to 1T since the Cloned drive is recognized as a 250GB drive NOT a 1T drive!! 2 Solutions: 1. Buy a partitioning software to remove partition and resize the hard drive so it'll be recognized properly as a 1Tb drive OR.... 2. Do what many PC users do annually - RESTORE THE ENTIRE PRIMARY DRIVE with a Fresh installation of Windows! Sure, it'll LITERALLY take HOURS for a Fresh install but you'll have a Clean PC that's run faster and smoother since it's not loaded with software garbage that accumulated over time! I chose Option 2 which took literally 1 entire day but, in the end, it was worth it! My 3 year old computer now runs smoother, faster and has lots of room on the primary drive. I now have a computer with 2 1Tb hard drives but I still perform backups to external drives. BTW... my external harddrives are now becoming 1Tb hard drives since I build them myself with 1Tb internal drives and external Hdd enclosures. It's very simple to assemble then plug and play for additional (MASSIVE) storage! It's better to build your own External hard drives than buy one of those pre-bulit ones that don't even include an on/off switch!! Price is pretty good now ~$117 sale price. Better than the $125-130 sale price about 1 month ago so it's SLOWLY dropping in price! One caution: Not sure about the reliability so keep your receipts and register the product! Seagate used to be TERRIBLE years ago but when it bought Maxtor, then their HDD quality actually improved since the company must have obviously incorporated Maxtor's engineering designs into their own designs.!

    Unreliable Drive - Beware!

This drive quit working after just two months of use. I had purchased it to Replace a three year old Samsung drive that came in my PC. The New Seagate drive had a major failure and I lost a lot of data. Both MFT's became corrupted and I could not rebuild them with expensive recovery software. Lost a lot of files, and am Very Unhappy! Avoid this hard drive !!!

    Excellent Warranty, good drive!

I have been building computers since the mid 80's and can remember Seagate's earliest 5-20 megabyte drives. They have never let me down (unlike WD, the original Maxtor’s, Hitachi, etc)... I now own over 30 of these drives which have been purchased over the last couple of years. I was originally drawn to these by their 5 year warranty (as well as good past experience with Seagate). Seagate has become a bit "quirky" when it comes to customer service. So if you buy one of these be sure to keep the tag off the back of the box that has the part #, serial #, etc on it, or you may not be able to get a warranty claim. I personally keep one box; with the tags for all the others inside of it. I use these as primary storage for all of my movies, they are quick, quiet and reliable. Thus allowing me to create a "video jukebox" with all of my movies instantly accessible to the family (and all the DVD masters safely locked away). Given the fact I purchased most of these recently while on sale at $20 off. They've been an excellent value! :-D

Good Drive - Terrible Software Disk

Bought this drive today because I wanted a lot of additional storage space. Existing hard drive (dual boot XP/Win 7) is a Seagate. It has been good to me so I expect the same with this HD. Bought the retail kit to get the screws and connectors for easy installation. Glad I did. Needed the screws and power connector. Did not need the data connector though. All went easy until I tried to boot the machine after installing. It would not boot. The manual said to check the Setup BIOS. OK. When I did, I found that it WAS detecting the drive - but the dumb thing was trying to boot from it. So I told it to boot from the original HD with the OS actually on it. Now the machine boots up. Installed the DiscWizard software as directed and rebooted the machine again. Went to start the DiscWizard to install my new HD as additional storage. THE PROGRAM WOULD NOT RUN AT ALL. It told me that I must have a Seagate HD installed on my system. Isn't that what I just installed? AND the existing HD with (2) OS installed on it is a Seagate. Had to use my existing Partition Magic program to format the new HD and make it functional. The DiskWizard software from Seagate does not even recognize the HD it comes packaged with. After using Partition Magic the HD is recognized by both Win XP and Windows 7. So, do NOT count on the supplied software. It might work for you - it did NOT for me. Bottom line, glad I had a few tricks up my sleeve.
