The harddrive was bad when it was installed . It was replaced with another unit. I returned it for credit. It ment that to be with computer for 3 more days. There was also an installation program they sold me that was not used because the installer I had to use had his own.

Hard drives are like Cars and are split right down the middle as far as preference. You're either a Ford or a Chevy person. So goes HD's. You're either a Western Digital fan or you are a Seagate fan. I have recommended WD to many of my clients but when it came time for me to purchase a 1TB drive, the performance was the same for this drive and the WD equivalent. However Seagate gives you a SATA cable and a 4-pint to SATA power converter. WD gives you a Bare drive, Seagate gives you a CD and software to image your Hard Drive for you to easily move it. WD gives you a bare drive. Oh yeah and the WD costs on average $10 more. This is a GREAT price for a 1TB Drive. Buy 2 if you can for a raid array. Some hard drives fail regardless of who's names is on the box.

I bought this drive to upgrade the 160GB drive inside my Tivo HD. I more than quadrupled my recording space and so far have no complaints about this drive. It runs warm but not too hot. The noise is trivial, as with most modern hard drives. The main selling point of this unit is the 5 year warranty. As with all hard drives, it is bound to fail at some point. So whether it's 3 years down the road, or 4, this drive has the upper hand on Western Digital. This is the main bullet point in my book.

I bought the 2TB version initially to replace the HDD in my Apple Time Capsule. Flawless installation, started right up! Works like a dream ever since. My 9 year old sports an iMac G5 (without iSight) which was hiccuping off an on. Obviously this was the older model, and I was a skeptic at first but it took that machine from a dinky little 80GB hard drive from the early 2000s to a beefy 1TB data monster! I'm pleased with how well both machines work. I'm thinking about expanding the HD in a 2008 iMac next using this same product. Highly recommended until further notice. I expect that this HDD will last me an easy 5 years per each well maintained machine. Highly recommend it!

Purchased to install Windows 7 upon. Formerly had Windows XP on an old HGST DeskStar 160GB PATA. Got Windows 7 installed (including 3rd party device drivers) and running in about 20 - 25 minutes.
After installation of some frequently used applications, I was delighted with how much more snappier and responsive my system feels. Programs load almost instantaneously. System takes around 30 seconds to boot after it POSTs. Some of this is in no doubt related to a fresh install of the operating system, but I'm still very impressed. The 64MB cache and SATA interface certainly are not hurting things, however
The drive runs very cool, and is completely silent--- no clicks, clacks, or anything like that. It's almost impossible to tell if it's spinning without placing your hand on it.
OEM versions of this drive can be purchased for less, but in my experience they are usually not packaged properly and bang around in the box during shipping. In my opinion it simply isn't worth the risk subjecting a delicate piece of hardware to such potential abuse. Another plus od ordering the retail box version is that the SATA cable, screws, and a Molex to SATA power adapter are included if so needed.
The last 7 hard drives I've purchased have all been Seagates and so far none of them have failed. I have a pair of 7-year old 250GB 7200.11 Barracudas, that have been running in RAID-0, on the machine I'm typing this on now, and that gets used daily, which I have owned for almost 7 years now, and they're still going strong. I'm still on the original install of Windows 7 x64 from October 2009! I think that says a little something about Seagate reliability, and this is coming from a former WD fan. Of course like they say in the commercials "you mileage may vary".
I would not hesitate to recommend this drive

Good price, Easy to install, Remember to format

I'm not a techie. The price of this item was great. It was surprisingly easy to physically install (3-5 mins) in my 5-yr-old Dell desktop. Vista immediately recognized the new hardware but like elyea from Madison, WI, said in his 01/24/2013 review, the installation CD is near worthless. It never mentioned formatting. After spending nearly two hours fumbling through the enclosed disc, I found a checklist online that reminded me about and walked me through the process of formatting the new drive. I've had it for 3-4 wks now and it works fine. …just don’t waste much time running the set-up disc.

Great Upgrade Hard Drive for older PC's

For the price, this is very good performing drive (read and write speed) with a lot of space. Also very quiet. The included disk utility software by Acronis Tru-Image which is used to clone your old hard drive contents to the new one works flawlessly, and in my experience, the only software I have been able to find which really clones 100% as a bootable disk. You also get another Seagate utility which checks the health of your old Maxtor or Seagate drives if you intend to keep using them, and can potentially repair them.

Low Cost-Per-Gig, cheap

5 year warranty, fast performance, very cheap, and quiet. Only thing that might catch some people is that there is a jumper that needs to be removed to enable SATAII, by default it is jumped to SATAI speeds for compatibility. Can push just under 11MB/sec sustained writes over the network. Price was great running with tax out-the-door for 18 cents per gig, dirt cheap!!!
