Great drive at a great price. I have two of these, and they have both served me well. Not an SSD, but a reliable drive at a fantastic price. In addition, although I have not needed support in quite a while, Seagate is the best storage company I have ever dealt with. They stand behind their hardware even beyond the warranty period. Great company, great product at a great price. What more can you ask for?

a cheaper option to the Solid state drives works great and the storage will be more than you need. mine has worked right out of the box and it has been working for over 2 years now. since these kinds of drive have moving parts in them some are dead on arrival but best buy and seagate do a great job at fixing that if it were to happen to you. price was cheaper than other brands at the time i bought this item.

Setting up a new desktop in Raid 0 and these actually perform faster than I expected. They seem to be pretty solid. Will buy more for my next build.

I ran out of space on my C drive and wanted to switch the C to a new drive and use the old one as a backup. The Clone Disc utility made this the simplest, most straightforward install I've ever done. For the ease of use, the price, and the lack of what I thought would be such a big hassle, 5 stars aren't enough.

Excellent Hard Drive

The Barracuda 1TB Hard Drive has been an excellent addition to my Computer. I have been able to backup all my files, music, and pictures to it with lots of room to spare. The price was the lowest I had seen. If it were still in stock, I would buy another.

this was actually for my wifes computer. i have long been a Segate supporter as they have always been the longest lasting, strongest, and most dependable hard drives on the market My experience goes back to my first computer that came factory with a 6.5GB Seagate in it which incidentally is still running today 18 years later. The 1tb drive will get a major workout in my wife's computer as she is one that leaves her system on 24/7 it is never shut off and though she burns through systems twice as fast as i do her seagate drives last computer to computer still , that was the deciding point for purchasing seagate this time also.

Good Quiet Drive

This drive is incredibly easy to install. The software that comes with the drive for formatting and creating various partitions is easy to use. Even the clone drive function is amazingly easy to use. Just click a couple of times and then you have a new primary drive.
The drive is amazingly quiet, even during heavy disk access you can barely hear that something is happening.

I've been working with computers since the dos and green screen days snd Seagate was the first drive I ever had. They've been around for a LONG time. For a while, (in the '90's), WD and Maxtor dominated the market, but then Seagate came from behind again and kicked some serious butt! I used to like WD's and Maxtors, but after comparing the specs, Seagate has them beat! I have 8 Seagate sata drives and 3 Seagate EIDE (PATA) drives and they all work flawlessy! Besides having faster access times than WD, they have a 5 year warranty, which WD only gives you one. And I always tell everyone - backup, backup, backup!!! If you think your drive will not fail, then you're a fool!
As for installation, come on...who could possibly have a problem installing a sata drive??? You don't even have pins to worry about!
So all in all, this is a great drive for the price.....just don't forget to check your BIOS and make sure your BIOS can handle it (as well as the controller on your mobo)!

For the price, the quality, speed and 1Tb size of the drive....I don't think you'd need to look further. My main drive crashed, but did not survive and luckily, I'd had a backup external drive. Setting up this 1Tb Seagate was quick and easy with the backup. In a short while, my computer was back up and running as if nothing had happened.

Drives easy to install in Mac tower

I purchased two of these Hard Drives for my Mac, video editing workstation because I had run out of space. It took about two minutes (if that) to install these drives into the tower. As soon as we powered up the Mac, it saw the new drives, allowed us to name them, and they have been working great for video editing. No problems.

Bought four of these to build a home storage system. Concerned that they do not all have the same firmware versions and one of these was a 340 (4-platters) version instead of the expected 333 (3-platters). Got expected pefrormance and they just plugged in and worked on my system. Can't beet the cost at ~$100 per disk on sale. Got 4TB for only $400! Hope they have good long term reliability but with cost this cheap I can afford to put in place true redundant backup.

Seagate 1 TB Drive

Seagte, formerly Maxtor, continues to build reliable, faily priced storage devices. I own 3 of these 1TB drives currently. One failed a few months back and Seagate support rma'd me a replacement in very short order. I also have a few older Seagate (IDE, SCSSI ) drives of varying capacities, some quite old, and they all still work when connected and accessed.
I have found this brand more reliable than most others on average.

I've been using Seagate drives for twenty+ years. I've had hundreds and I've never had one crash. I use this model for machines that stay on 24-7. I hot swap them often without any problems.

This Seagate drive was a snap to install and configure. The PC's system bios correctly saw the drive the first time. Windows 7 found the drive and correctly set it up. The drive runs quiet and fast. No complaints. Recommended.

Just like ANY new hard drive that you add to a computer, you MUST allow the computer to initialize the new drive.
Easy easy easy.
1. Install the beast (must have SATA interface)
2. Go to the "Run" command and type in "compmgmt.msc"
3. Pops up computer management command
4. Click on first menu option on left -> "Computer Management (Local)"
5. On right, click "storage" then "disc management"
6. Will show all active drives, such as "C" and "Unknown" (your new one)
7. Select new drive, on bottom right and click "initialize"
8. Once initialized, go through prompts selecting NTFS or FAT32 (go NTFS)
9. Wait for this badboy to format, takes an hour or so
THAT'S IT!
