    Replacement Hard Drive

I bought this to replace the old hard drive on our aging Dell. Couldn't beat the price for the amount of storage, which far surpassed the drive I was replacing. It was an easy install and everything is running smoother.

Excellent hard drive for beginner or professional

Drive runs quiet and is easy to set up. With the included Seagate Disc Utility (Acronis), it is simple to copy the entire old hard drive to a new hare drive. The Disk Utility copies the entire OS and makes the new hard drive bootable. To boot from the new drive after the copy, simply switch the SATA data cable to SATA 0. I would highly recommend this Seagate hard drive.

When I saw the 1TB Barracuda on sale for less than $100 I grabbed it. So far it's worked as well as all my previous Seagate Barracudas.

Tivo HD Died, needed a new Hard Drive Day 3 A.OK!

Hi, After 7 years my Tivo HD Hardrive passed away. I was in a hurry and needed a new one. I found this one at BB and since the natives were restless without TV, I had no choice but to make the purchase...and the price was great (Yes!) Its been 3 days now running 24 hrs/day and its been fine. It is quiet and seems that Tivo is happy with it running within. One Note: It does not come with an extra SATA cable so you might need to buy one if you didn't have one already.

Great buy, could use better install instructions

Great buy at the sale price! It's been a long time since I've torn into a computer. But, my desktop's HD was starting to whine & "gallop". It also failed a couple of tests in the SMART diagnostics. I needed a replacement HD & was hooked by the promise of DiscWizard being able to fully clone my OS drive easily. Well, physical install went easily. BUT, the drive was no where to be seen in Windows Explorer (I have Win 7). The installation booklet said (immediately after the final instructions for physical install in the tower), "The drive is ready to be used." That is vague to say the least and wrong, actually. I had to search Seagate's support site to find out that I had to go to Control Panel/Admin Tools/Computer Management and THEN right click on the new drive icon to initialize & format my new Seagate HD before I could do any cloning. Also, there was no CD containing the DiscWizard software & the book doesn't tell you that. One has to download this software from Seagate's support site. The software worked very good, tho'. One thing I don't like about it, however, is that I couldn't seem to be able to set my partition sizes the way I wanted to for the clone. My old HD had a Factory Restore partition (HP/Compaq). Since I was replacing a 500 GB drive w/ this new 1 TB, the automatic choice would clone "proportionately". I.e., all my old partitions would increase proportionately. That meant I would end up w/ 11 GB of empty, unusable space set aside on the Restore partition. I tried to set the sizes manually, but DiscWizard for some reason wanted to put the extra 11 GB on a 4th partition! (It all ready had Boot, OS & Restore partitions.) Maybe I missed something, but I couldn't seem to find any info on getting that extra space added to the OS partition. Overall, the experience was very good. I like not having to set jumpers. The drive works great & is very quiet. (I haven't heard any noise, unlike some other reviewers.) Seagate just needs to make the software portion of the install more clear, provide the proper software in box & give clear instructions on that part of the setup. Lastly, make SURE you have an empty 3.5" bay. I didn't. Forgot that I would need to have an 5.25" to 3.5" drive bay adapter. Make sure to check that out before you tear into your case.

Just to let you know, segate has a very high return rate for their hard drives, and it P's me off that they have not gotten their RMA down. UPS lost my package, and now im down a hard drive. The drive was working perfectly, until it cut its RPM in half and died.

I am a Seagate fanboy so I will love this

I was on the hunt to get a Seagate HDD for my desktop. I found it at Best Buy and I bought it. This wasnt on sale at the time I purchase it but it is well worth it. I have purchased other brands before, like WD, and those just dies after a year right after the waranty expires. So I did my research and found out that SONY uses seagate HDD on their VAIO and PS3. So I was sold cause none of my VAIOs or PS3 ever break down cause of a HDD issue. Dont buy WD is my advise

The HD of my 4-year-old iMac crashed. Bought this Seagate and was up and running the same day. (Full disclosure: I watched a YouTube video on how to access the HD bay and had my college-student son watched me to make sure that I didn't screw things up. But I did it myself.) Now my iMac is running faster and has double the capacity of the original HD.

My Dell computer is over 7 years old and the hard drive started going bad. It was freezing on a black screen and the only way to get it back on was to manually shut it down and restart it. The hard drive was also making a strange noise. A friend of mine suggested that I buy this hard drive. He put it in for me and no more problems! Everything works great now! Definitely beats spending hundreds on a new computer.

When I bought this drive, Best Buy price was the best, around $20 lower than Fry's. But it was made by Seagate and I was having my doubts about the quality and performance, but now I see why Seagate was able to give a 5 years warranty on this drive, because it will last. I haven't seen this kind of reliability in a hard drive since we stopped making them in California. This is a quality drive and I am very happy with this purchase.
