So far, this drive has only been a pleasure to have. It's quite, fast, and doesn't run hot.

i bought this hard drive as a slave to my 40gb Seagate baracuda which was full. First there was no switch thing to put on the back, so i had to reinstall windows vista on the new one, which of course, is never a fun process, had to download the software off the internet because the software that came with it didnt work. Finally got it to work after 5 hours. Overall i may or may not recommend it to the average computer user.

Old 320 GB HD was making too much noise and causing all sorts of problems after three years of hard service. Installed new hard drive using included software and loaded windows back to drive (as a clean install) Of course the boring stuff starts then with loading all my wanted software... Very easy to use and the included upgrade software and partitioning software was fantastic.

Paid more than I preferred, but the drive is fine

It seems to me that prices of hard drives in general are a bit higher than they used to be relative to the stability and reliability of drives, particularly in the 1TB capacity and greater. I paid a little more than what I thought this drive was worth simply because I needed a drive right away. I had no problems at all with the installation, and its performance is just fine.

I bought this for our 4 yr. old HP desktop that the hard drive was continually crashing on. I just replaced it and re-installed the vista operating system recovery discs and that was it. Computer is running better than ever! This was way easier than I thought it would be. The drive is better than the original. Just make sure you get one equal or bigger than original.

Their installation instructions were solid, the drive works great and BestBuy had it for an excellent price. A total winner in my book.

Just bought two of these to run as a 1TB RAID1 array. Within 2 hours, my old (filled) 500GB hard drive was cloned using the included DiscWizard software (actually Acronis True Image in disguise, what a nice, free surprise!), and now I'm running my old OS off the new drives! I really didn't think it would go so smoothly, as I've never set up a RAID configuration before. It's pretty quiet, same as my old Western Digital.

I got this hard drive when it was on sale for $149.99 and it was a great deal. It was very easy to install and included a program that easily mirror your old hard drive. Just don't expect this drive to be exceedingly fast. Overall I would have to say, if you could get it on sale, it would be a nice storage drive. However I do have to warn you that this hard drive is significantly louder than my previous Seagate Hard Drive (250GB Barracuda). Hard drive have been installed for 3 months and currently trouble free!

This hard drive is working perfectly. I had this now for about three months and never had any problems. It is one of the newer drives that are slimmer to help keep the temperature down. The Installation was a breeze with vista operating system. The drive is very quiet. This is the newer model st1000dm0039yn162 that is replacing the st310005n1a1as-rk.

Great HD for a novice PC upgrader. Only took about 15 minutes to install. If you're not going to copy your old HD info onto this one, the most tedious part is reinstalling all your software.

I needed to upgrade my computer for some video work that I had taken on - I now have (2) 1TB Seagates (7200.12) installed that just keep on rockin! Boot-up time has almost been cut in half from what used to be inside (5900 OEM WD hard drive) and they are super quiet when working!

    Good Drive, Bad Compatability

I bought 2 of these drives, based on my past experience with Seagate as a long lasting, reliable, fast and low heat drive. I have 6 of them running 24/7 now for the past 6+ years, some SATA, some PATA and not a single failure to date. I was extremely disappointed with these particular drives, since they could not even be seen by my ASUS K8VSEDX Mobos. I called Seagate Tech Support and spent almost 2 hours talking to a very knowledgeable TSR, but we were unable to figure out why this glitch was occurring. My mobo was listed as being compatible with the drive. We tried it with and without the jumper. It would just not drop back to the 1.5 SATA nor would it even be seen in the BIOS or the OS. The BIOS was updated to the latest version, all of the ports were on, we even tried them on another system, and older DELL server, but it could not see the drives either.
